:"koahjohnson", that clip gave me many ways to word what I want to say here. That was some "HARD CORE," mother fu#$@%king, Federation fighting, sh@^!&t!! So, in other words, do NOT pi@^^@s off the Starfleet "peacekeepers."
Actually (I can't believe I'm defending trek) they do use shields in DS9, it's just that they switched from bubble shields to the more efficient(though structurally less strong) hull hugging shields.
Real world explanation? The bubble effect was expensive and difficult to do.
Its cool to see someone has done this whilst resisting the urge to play some music over the top (typically Linkin Park), hearing all the SFX and commands is way better.
The 'reason' some ships are destroyed in one hit, is that we don't know how much damage they had taken before the shot. Also, If you are referiing to early dominion cold-war, the Fed sheilds could not stop Dominion weapons
The more annoying thing is when the huge ships like excelcior and galaxy class ships explode with a single beam shot where the significantly smaller defiant can easily shrug off ten or twenty shots... I mean oblative armor just cant be that good.
What I realy loved about ST fighting is that feling of power; where you cant be destroyed with just one shot. I had a felling(until DS9) that you can always do something to save yours self. If ewerithing fails, you always had enought time to reach escape poads.
1. Deflector shields were never deployed, except for on the station itself. And, if deployed on ships, they didn't seem to work.
2. 1/3 of the Klingon military attacking DS9 turns tail and run when "7 starships lead by the Venture" approach. The Old School Klingons would have just sent a dozen or so ships & eliminated the threat. Seven ships. Whoopie.
1. Defiant isd a 'Hero' ship, the Main ship is always a monster while anything generic is weak as hell. Thats common for pretty much every any Series, Game & Movie (not just Star Trek).
2. Homefield Advantage? They know where to hide and the Klingons get ambushed. Thats a powerful weapon, surprise.
3. Considering how close Ships get in a Battle, Shields will most likely damage themselves.
I think you should be mindful, the DS9 is a heavy Battlestation. It is equipped with highly powerful type 13 Phasers and type 2 Quantum Torpedoes, both of which are only mountable on a spacestation due to the sheer power they possess. They are capable of ripping through Klingon shielding as if it weren't there, as you must also consider that Klingons didn't put much emphasis on shielding as all their power went into weapons
Looking at the big picture (something ST directors were newer good at) there is realy no point in building strong starbase.Starbases should only be there for logistic purposes. In a real battle the best starbase could do (even with superior weapons) is to give suport to other ships. Long range projectiles and suicide runs would vreck havoc even against most powerfull starbases.Klingons should just get some safe distance and bombarded it (on long ranges Klingon ships could dodge most of DS wep.)
Now you're pulling things from your arse - it has never been stated exactly how much firepower DS9 has, except in off-hand ways, such as weapons upgrades (season 3/4 looming Dominion threat)
@mafjo1991 Must be a pretty good ass to spawn 5 series' and 11 feature films. That's like some Angelina jolie or Anna Kournikova caliber ass there. Star trek doesn't depend on factuality, I mean, who really knows what we'll learn, and what "truths" will change over the course of the next 400 years. anyway The only thing star trek requires is conveniently plausible and explainable, but useful, story tools. True, it makes for horrible science, but excellent television.
After TNG and all that smart-improviseing(?) tacticts I was realy hopeing to see some real ST war. And all I got, was that stupid SW stille fighting, with ships behaveing like fighters, fighting all time in visual ranges and having accuracy of 17'th century cannon.
And not to talk about close combat, and phasors doing less gamage than a normal pistol. DS9 crew kicking Klingons ass at close combat, WTF?
TOS-effects were poor, but phasors were powerfull (both ships and personel), good accuracy and astronomical range, decent shields - battle was more like a submarin fighting
TNG-effects are good, weapons power waries from episode to episode, good range and accuracy, strong shields- battle is faster, Ent-D seems powerfull, diference beatween dialoge and visual effects starts to anoy
They are two unnamed Defiant class ships that were among the task force sent to recapture the starship Prometheus in Star Trek: Voyager's "Message in a Bottle".
When the Defiant is first shown in DS9 it is stated that the lead ship of the class was named Valiant so that one is probably the other one you see here. They were both originally made to fight the Borg but had too many issues, many of which were resolved by OBrien in DS9 and the conflict with the Borg cooled down before they saw service until the movie where Worf commanded the Defiant against the Borg cube that showed up at Earth.
Haahahahaaaa yesss! Star Trek is the ultimate in scifi andscifi battles. To hell with the star wars pieces of shit, I have been a trekki scince the pilot for the origional series came out in 1964. Star Trek dominates scifi, it will always dominate scifi.
Acutally in most of those clips when the defiant was fighting the dominian it was actually the USS Sao Paulo. The ship starfleet sent to DS9 after the defiant was destroyed by the Breen...But they gave them the opportunity to rename the ship Defiant...
Lots of Ds9 clips...suppose only series that had a war if you discount yesterdays enterprise in TNG. The Prometheus from Message in a Bottle was one cool ship...did i see one in the fleet guarding the transwarp exit in the End Game clips?
Seems most of the scenes were from DS9. Which episode? Wasn't there a series of episodes where the Federation fought beings from which most come from the DS9 series? Though the Enterprise E kiss major ass, I'd still want Defiant there as well. Tough little ship.
Ah. It's still the galaxy class Enterprise-D, but it was in the future of an alternate timeline. It had gone through major refits by 2395 that included the third nacelle, new weapons, a faster propulsion, and a cloaking device. It was seen in the TNG series finale, "All Good Things."
Galaxy Dreadnought Class (aka Galaxy Refit) capable of warp 13 (PTNG scale), aka 9.993 or something (DS9, VOY, etc) With the lance phaser upgrade that punch through sheilds. Thats what happens when you ask and a trekkie comes by and reads your post.
Can someone tell me where those scenes with the modern federation ships fighting the romulans came from. I am farmiliar with every series except voyager so I expect thats where they came from.
It's from a Voyager episode called Message in a Bottle. Voyager is able to send the Doctor to the Alpha quadrant only to find himself on a federation ship abducted by romulan ones. It's a funny episode.
@Andorian12 That was a Deep Space Nine episode titled, The Die Is Cast, where Garak is kidnapped by his mentor Enaburan Tain. The Romulans and Cardassians combined a fleet of ships captained by each races secret services, the Obsidan order, and the Tal Shiar. Great episode! It's the one were they have a device that keeps a changling/founder from changing its form for a long period of time, causing the founder/changling to deteriorate like a wet newspaper! pretty graphic.
I like the way you had Kirk, Sulu, Picard and Sisko saying fire although you could hav had Janeway saying it as well. I like the way you put Voyager returning home at the end, overall its a gr8 clip.

@Battlehawk08 like could not stop the Breen's weapons. The weapons would "suck" energy from the ship it was firing from.

DS9 had some strange quirks.
Whoopie.

From then on: ships seems less powerfull and fighter like. Accuracy and range have become afwull, not to talk about shield power.
I always thought that ST fighting is all about powerfull and accurate energy weapons and shields, not about dogfighting and armor
(fought that ST technology could get throught any material, hence the shields)
Is it just me, or ST ships seems weaker with ewery incarnation (ENT-D was looking more advanced and powerfull to me than ENT-E)

Can someone please try to explane cause I dont get it : (
DKzgd 3 years ago
1. OK
2. Doesn't explain bad weapons accuracy
3. Well.........OK
4. -Why bother to make strong starbase when one suicade warp run could destroy it -why are Klingons so stupid, WTF
5. DODGING LIGHTSPEED BEAMS !!!!!
Just thought to reply ; )
DKzgd 3 years ago
The reason why I don't like DS9 are stupid and ilogical battle scenes.
1.why don't ships have shields and why do phasers act like cutting beams
2.why are they fighting like SW ships (ST ships should have advanced targeting sistems and good weapons angle coveredge)
3.why is weapons range so short
4.the strenght of DS9:
-all that klingon ships couldn't destroy it
-why did they came so close when they could bombard it from safe distance
5.Defiant dodging light speed projectiles
