Thank you! You can either stick your fondant decorations by just brushing on a little tiny bit of water or you can use edible glue which is a mixture of tylose powder and warm water. Aine2 (username) here on YouTube has an awesome tutorial on how to make edible glue. It's super easy! Glad you liked the cake! :)
Hi. Sorry I don't have instructions. LOL! However, it is pretty simple. Polka dots and stripes. The little teddy cutters can be purchased at Hobby Lobby or Michael's in the aisle where you find the sculpting and clay tools. :0) Glad you liked it sweetie! :0)
i thought that you couldn't put a cake with fondant in the fridge?? and if tha cake has royal icing on it can it be put in the fridge?? also how do you get the cicles to stick?? to the base fondant?? sorry so many questions its just that im a beginner and i love this.
You're not supposed to put fondant in the fridge. Which is why my fondand on this cake started to sweat when I took it out. I didn't know that then. :) Royal icing should never be put in the fridge either. It cracks something horrible! LOL! To glue cut outs I just use edible glue. :)
Hi Laura, I tried to put fondant on my cupcake and placed in the cupcake holder and the next day my fondant look slimy and melted. Why is this. I"m new to this...thanks
Hi, Did you by any chance put the cupcake in the fridge after it was made or have it somewhere warm? Fondant should not be refrigerated because it causes the fondant to sweat and it gets slimy and wet. I'm trying to imagine exactly how you did it?
Hi. You do beautiful work! I am wanting to get into cake decorating. I'm just starting to get supplies so I can do some practice cakes. Can you please tell me..what kind of powder is that that you mix with the fondant to make gum paste? Do you recommend doing that when sculpting figurines? Does it make it firmer? So do you add the powder to already made fondant or do you add it during the process of actually making the fondant from the get go? Thanks so much!
Hi! Thank you! The powder is called Tylose, CMC, or gum tragacanth. Definitely a must when sculpting figurines. It does make it very firm and can be stored for a very long time. You add the powder to the fondant ( already made ). Let me know if you have any other questions ok? :)
That is a huge help, Laura. Thank you so much! I've got a pretty big project I'm going to be working on..my first fondant cake for my son's 11th birthday next month. The concept we've come up with is a 2 tier with the cakes looking like wheels of cheese and I'm going to attempt to sculpt fondant hamsters to sit on it. lol. I sure hope it turns out good. Wish me luck and thank you again for the info! : )
This is so cute I actually lol'd. Hehehe. I like it but looks sickly sweet, Im getting nauseaous (spelling?) just looking at it. LOL your dog was opening the blinds? Smart dog! :P hahahahaha.
Hi! Thanks for the compliment! The teddy bear cutter is only about 2 in. X 2 in. I bought this particular cutter at Hobby Lobby in the clay crafting dept. Please post your cake up on YouTube once it's done so I can see it! Take care! :)
Thank you! Yes, very time consuming... But I love the fact that this is when I get a majority of my deep thinking done... :) Kind of like meditation for me! :)
Very cute! My arms are always sore the next day also. I usually try to warm the fondant in the microwave for about 5 sec depending on the size and it makes it easier to work with. I love how you made the top tier taller .
Hi. To make these two shades of blue, I just started with royal blue (Wilton gel). To make the baby blue I just BARELY put a little bit of the royal blue... For the darker blue, I just added more royal blue to the fondant I used for the other tier... The brown is by chefmaster. When you buy it be sure to just get the basic brown... Once again, with the brown you just need a little bit, not too much or else it'll get to dark. Let me know if this help ok? Take care! :)
Hi again..Thanks for the details..Now I really know how to get the blues and brown..Wonderful info laurapoopie..Thanks for your time and kind details =) Keep up the good work!!
Hi laurapoopie..thanks for info.but can you tell me exactly which colour do you start with? I mean you need to start with some shades of blue and brown before you start adding other colours to make them right?I can find both Wilton and Chefmaster colours here easily. Thanks again.
hi Laura! well done sweetie - very beautiful cake! I dont normally keep my cakes in the fridge once the fondant goes go because I'm scared of problems with condension of water on the cakes once I take then out of the fridge- just something I was taught ; )
Hi! Thank you for your kind words! :) Yes, I know exactly what you mean... After taking the cake out of the fridge for a few hours, the shine came back. Something about the cold that makes the shine leave the shortening... Thanks for the insight! :)
Hi ladydroso! Thank you so much! :) I use either Wilton gel food coloring or chef master food coloring and knead it into the fondant until I get the right color... Sometimes, no matter how much color you add, you can't get the exact color you want and this is when you can look up color palates on the internet in order to know what other little bit of color you can add to get a deeper or richer shade... :) Let me know if this helps! :)
Hi again! Whenever I've looked it up I just google "color wheel" and there's a lot of awesome ones on the web. Theyr'e all pretty much the same and follow the same guidelines.
LOVE the design and Love how super neat it looks!!! :) I especially love how the second tier is taller-- it is a classy and modern way to give the cake a twist . I do not see any imperfections :) to me it is perfect!
I do use wooden dowels.... If it's more than two tiers, I space out 4 wooden dowels on the bottom tier and then add the top tier. I insert one long wooden dowel from the top and stab it all the way to the very bottom tier, till it hits the bottom cake board.... There's a video on my favorites list and I think it's called "How to Stack a Wedding Cake"... It's awesome! This is how I learned how to stack a cake... :) Let me know if this helps... :)
Thanks Laura. Oh yes, I've seen the video before. So the long wooden dowel can go through all cakeboards? I mean I'd feel scared to put so much pressure on the cake trying to go through all cake boards.
Actually, if you take a pencil sharpener and sharpen the end of the dowel, you shouldn't have any problems... Just make sure that when you are pressing it down that you are doing a screwing motion so that the sharp point punctures through the carboard easily.... Let me know if all goes well! ;)
Absolutely stunning! Love the small details you added to the bear. I also love how you add some height to the cake. Keep it up, I love your videos. Im excited to see the next one!
Oh I have a few questions, how do you stack you cake? Do you use wooden dowels or straws? DO you stick 1 long dowel from the top tier to the base cake board of the bottom tier?
how old are you?
