  • @ferrysteam - yes, it was deper, more like a basso profundo. You are so right - there will never come another voice like that of Robeson - he was unique. What a voice, what a timbre, and he broke the rules of signing, he sang often on the consonant, and yet he is sublime.

  • this is one of my most favorite love songs ever... and I don't even know who wrote it... I can't even find the words online. i guess its that old.

  • Ferrysteam - you are so right, there will never be another voice like Robeson's, and there was never one before him either. Such a great bass. The greatest. It is so deep, so rich, and so perfectly in tune.

  • This is the most beautiful song - I love Paul Robeson. I had the 45 record of Sanders of the River when i was a girl some forty years ago. This and "My Little Black Boy" the lullaby were my favourites. You don't have the lullaby from Sanders of the River do you?
