Are you saying that programmatic music is a lesser art form? That would be a highly misguided sentiment in my opinion. The basic fluidity of music as an inherent form of communication freely lends itself to progrmmaticism and has thus has great power for artistic expression. Why then, out of curiosity, should it stand that composure without programme be considered superior? Equal, certainly, but superior?
great cello job, right in the center, not too imapssioned,or not too laud back; Levine is quite good also for Carter, lots of violence; impassioned; He should conduct more modern music
I listened to the whole thing, three parts and made some comments on Parts 2 and 3. Thanks, Dane for posting this. I especially liked that it was a rehearsal. This music is still emerging, erupting?
Very happy to see this video. I attended the performance .

No. This music is above such things, yo - read: composed without any such need for programme.

Perhaps you should look up 'absolute music'.
Music isn't communicative, but suggestive. It isn't semantically standardised.
But humans have this need to express themselves in....constrained ways. I've been inclined to transcend these ways.
Regardless, what I said about this piece is accurate. That's why there's no 'romantic' title. And it's *cleaner* for it.

Technical comment: All of the sound seems to be coming out of one channel. Nevertheless I am very glad to see this video!
