ok here is the real deal ,,, the tune is written from a musicians point of view for the sake of writing great music ( and if its musical art who gives a shit what the words say?) its about the music and thats why pop singers die with out a real band behind them and why classic rock lives on most of it is art ? in my opinion
Probably my absolute FAVORITE song on this album! Thanks Pete!! : ) Keith's fills on this song are perfect...Roger perfect feel/diction...John playing awesome as always....::SIGH::
This song is my very mood, I am it's tune, I am lonely and alone and I want to do him and ride him, and make love to him like he's never been made love to before, I want him to feel like he has not ever felt before, baby with you, we can feel like we've never feel, But for now I am in tune, looking for soul mate, 2:19 is perfect, it is ME!!! LOVE THIS SONG!!!! I could listen over and over.....XXXXX!!!!
This song touches my heart and it's kinda like getting in tune is getting in tune with my mind, seems like I haven't being pleasing some freinds lately and that I have hurt them so bad, that they felt it necessary to DELETE me off their FB acct, SKYPE acct, etc...I feel sad because that is not my intentions, this song touches my heart and helps me to express my dismay....
1990 is the cut-off !! Absolute ! The ninnies in the media are trying to get you all to listen to bieber, watch kardashians, and vote Socialist. And buy Lame shit at the mall -over and over ,... 'Just Listen to old Who albums ,..and you should be ok ! no need to take drugs people !
@GreenhouseEffectGE Drugs aren't all bad you ever read about shrooms? They change peoples outlook on life for the good. They can get rid of OCD and if you take them and go to church it'll be the best religious experience of your life. Cannabis can help people with pain and its actually better for you than pain pills.
It's all the same guys from that 1965 album,...Nicky Hopkins n' all,....yet they sure come a long way baby and sound quite different from 'The Goods Gone', Kids are alright, and La-La-La-Lies,...Don' they ? !! The Who are/were an awesome Evolution - Today, ...all the music just sounds exactly (Ezackly) the same with Pro-tools and digital crap,...Rap music sucks, bieber sucks, Foo Fighters-suck, mtv sucks, grammys suck - Don't listen to ANY MUSIC recorded 'after' 1990 - people please !!
Best rock album of all time.... Nevermind was great because it was progressive and I like Cobain and his writing style.. But there has never been an album with this much moxy in it.. Remember folks this is not just teen angst that most bands strike on early in their careers... This is almost a decade into the band... several albums and world tours later...This is after they changed the world with Tommy... Only Pete could come back and keep writing and give us this album.
a bit sophomoric idea for a song. george harrison wrote only a northern song- which was even more self conscious. before that was, "sing johnny one note". the gettin in tune is most classic.
SO many artist don't even realize the influence of the WHO on their music. It might be thru three levels, but Townsend and Daltry influence is in so MANY of them.
I still can remember the day My, " Who's Next" 8 track broke. that had to be the one of the saddest days in my life. oh well,, NOW THERE"S you tube, righttttt! rock on rockers
It's kinda funny. I was punching all the radio buttons the other day hearing mindless crap, and then I came across this song and fell in love with a 40 year old album all over again.
Such a complex masterpiece of a song and album. Starts off so powerful and with maybe a sadness or a certain focus depending on your own interpretation but then get rockin' more towards the end. Starts off in a love song type with the piano playing in such a powerful melody with Rogers voice moving right along with it in a "I'm sorry but can't help but love you so much" sorta way. I don't know, for me the best part of this song is the beginning because it just starts off soo good. Great song
this album is probably the greatest album ever made, its better than the white album.. every song is a masterpiece. anybody who likes classic rock should own this album
i was so fortunate to have seen them at the old patriots stadium, which is now gillette, it was owned by the sullivans back in the early 80"s, then a very business savvy man got an idea?? he wanted to own a football team, so he bought the new england patriots and a brand new stadium. he made the pats what they are today a very awesome club. i really hope they have a great year. that almost lock out would have spelled disaster for millions. we have a fucking stupid government that won't pay SSDI
@jorgedeeds I hate the "classic rock" stations in America today....they all play the same songs as if one big computer controls the play list.....I can go to California one day and Florida the next, and all the "classic rock" stations play the same songs from the same artists....
This song's piano gives me that "butterfly" feeling inside. You Who fans know what i'm talking about. That feeling of real music that actually has soul, and isn't made for money. RIP Moonie, RIP Ox. I tried getting my friends into The Who, but they prefer Kid Cudi, Wiz Khalifa, and other rappers.
@MetroidFan621 i agree with that statement! how ever nevermind did change the direction of rock and popular music this album who's next did not. this album took a long time and stayed a long time on FM radio back in the 1970's! and it is a classic album.
@MetroidFan621 I believe that is opinion. It could be argued that Nevermind is more influential overall, since it basically launched grunge and a ton of 90s music. Not saying it is better, but maybe you are biased saying this.
@gheffty93 Well, in all fairness, Nirvana was one band of many that exploded in 1991. And that music revolution took a decade to grow and build momentum. There's never been anything like that in pop music history. For whatever reason, Teen Spirit became the anthem of the moment, and Kurt Cobain became our patron saint. I still can't quite explain it, to be honest. These things just happen, and then the historians cram it all into easy-to-digest stories.
@gheffty93 I don't know about that - Who's Next completely revolutionized the use of synthesizers in rock music, and that influence was felt through the 70s, 80s and beyond.
I'm 23 and grew up on the Who, if more fathers were like mine music would be in a better place today, my top 5 real quick 1) Jethro Tull 2) Pink Floyd 3) Led Zeppelin 4) The Who 5) The Doors
OMG,, MEMORIES,,,, this song reminds me of a club we all went to on Brown st In Dayton Ohio years ago ,, all the bands would play this tune, and let me tell you,, Those were the Glory Days as my best friend would say...
An all-time classic album -- even the 'lesser' tunes (My Wife and this one) are great. Everyone who likes rock or pop music either has owned this one already or will! Came out when I was in high school, and it has never really grown old.
@partypianoplayer -- I totally agree with this album being right at the top -- but I would add Aerosmith (1st self titled album), & J Geils Full House (Live In Detroit) -- all great, and none better than the other!! :)

@jtwig Play her Beatles - Good Night. or Paul Simon - St. judy's Comet or Macca - Heart of the Country John Lennon - Watching the Wheels Vaughan Brothers - Tick Tock Cat Stevens - Morning Has Broken Supertramp - Even in the Quietest Moments. Pete Townshend - Let my Love Open the Door (e. cola mix) (That last one, not as good as original but good nonetheless.) I love hard rock but there are some amazing Classic Rock slower songs out there (the Who DEFINITELY included!)
Reflective lyrics and passionate music. It's too bad that the modern era has no appreciation for their heritage and it sounds like they've lost their way. This album spoke for an era in an unprecedented manner. Passion and creativity collide.
