People change over decades, ya know.

@blakmira Nobody's perfect. Everyone has faults. At least she's not a drunk cocaine addict who's always in and out of rehab. Public figures are under a lot of stress. So if smoking is her only vice, she's doing far better than many other celebrities.

i remember she also did a poster ad back then (1982) that said "smoking spoils your good looks," and it was a picture of her with a cigarette in at least on of her ears & maybe one of her nostrils.

All I know is that when my friends and I saw this ad as teenagers, all we wanted to do was smoke more out of rebellion. I've quit since, but it had nothing at all to do with what Brooke thought about smoking.

@Smartboy8877 I like Brook fine now. But at the time, my friends and I thought she was being a little stuck up, and that ad wasn't successful with us. Calling people "losers" is not a good way to get kids to stop smoking. That's all I was trying to say.

Well kids smoking was a bigger deal then than it is now. There were countless 80's Sitcoms where mom finds the kid with cigarettes and they act like they would act now if they found them with heroine lol.

Of course the commercial was also attempting to battle the idea then that the kids that did smoke were "cool and dangerous", by communicating the exact opposite message: kids that smoke are losers.

I mean if Brooke Shields thinks that guys that don't smoke are a catch, you better quit.

Time slipped away and I'm just responding to your comments to my posting. I hate to tell you this but, just like you, I was an occasional social smoker for some time before I suddenly found myself "smoking like a chimney". It happens to LOTS of people. It was hard to quit, until I watched two friends of mine die from smoking-related cancer - watching them die and hearing their screams stopped my smoking. Learn from people like me and avoid them things - just one cigarette is too many.
