Rather ironic that our national anthem (referring to a battle against the British - the War of 1812) is sung by the British @ St. Paul's. A wonderful demonstration of solidarity.
I've been fortunate enough to have served with British Forces. There's nobody else I'll trust with my back during a war than our brothers and sisters in the British Forces. There's a reason why our relationship is special. We share so much besides a common language. God Bless the Queen, God Bless the UK.
God I love Britain!!!!!!!If theres any country we should be backing no matter what-its Britain!!!!!I hope Brits are reading these comments because we Americans love you back!!!!!
Nothing but the highest regard for our friends and brethren in the United Kingdom. May our bond remain ever strong. God save the Queen and God bless America.
9/11 was the largest and deadliest terrorist attack in human history. It was the deadliest attack on American soil since the Civil War, America was in it's hour of need. No American has forgotten the loyalty that Britain showed standing shoulder to shoulder with us and I can promise you we would not hesitate to stand with you!

@flashhasonewing Super Smashing awesome.... Beleive me your feelings are reciprocated this side of the water and this Brit along with a huge majority of others LOVE Americans and we love having you over to visit my City of London..
Hope to be over to see your great Country later next year....
The best part about the UK-US Alliance is that we don't need to sign a treaty, argue over legalities, invoke NATO, or any sort of nonsense. We just know that we're there for one another.
@keirfree Your a dumbass and your probably jealous. America does have the best military now, England doesn't anymore. It can't fight without the US. Also I love how English think you went into WW2 because you was "being friendly." And last time I checked the US doesn't force any country to go to war, so blame your own fucking government dipshit.

Everyone who is singing the US anthem without looking at the words is American. Everyone who is shedding tears at the US anthem is American. Brits don't learn the US anthem. @grooverheliboy, Why are you so rude? What are you trying to prove?
I would expect that all the ex-pats would know the US anthem. Is there a VERY big difference between a present citizen of the US and an ex-pat citizen of the US, when it comes to knowing the anthem, do you think? Were those ex-pats present because of their feelings for their adopted country, or for the US? As for your brother with the flag, if he is not ex-pat, I'm sure his gesture it was appreciated.
@MandyJMaddison RUDE...I would suggest that you re- read your past comments before you start accusing anyone of being rude.I resent being told by a non English person what I know and do not know about my own Country...Now that is RUDE.
@grooverheliboy You have no idea who you are replying to. Neither do you know whether I was a guest at that service. My further comment is that it is not considered appropriate to go waving the flag of a foreign country. Flag-waving is a sign of patriotism. If your brother is an ex-pat from the US, then this is perhaps tolerable. If he isn't, then it is inappropriate to be showing such patriotism for a foreign country. Regardless of the occasion.
@MandyJMaddison you really are crazy and do not know what the hell you are talking about. So all the flag waving the Brits carried out on Obamas state visit to the UK this year was NOT appropriate.Stop talking rubbish adn go take your medication its wearing off.
I am certain many Britons noted the significance of holding the 9-11 Memorial in St. Paul's as the Cathedral held a stalwart place in their hearts during the London Blitz. Ironically on 07 September 2010 a similar service was held to commemorate that WWII tragedy. A most moving tribute.
While it is truly proper for Great Britian to honor America this way, is it not ironic that the song they are singing was born in a battle that was a major defeat for their country? Theirs were the "bombs bursting in air" that Francis Scott Key wrote about, and the ones that could not bring down the flag of the USA.
The fact this song was written over a war against you (The War of 1812), you are the classiest and most supportive allies of the United States and I'm glad to have this mutual respect towards your country.
As an ex-pat and London-based manager for United Airlines, I was privileged to be seated next to the choir for this beautiful memorial service. The Queen, Prince Phillip, Prince Charles, PM Tony Blair and many other dignitaries were all around us. It was an emotional week, and the memory of this service, hosted by the Royal Family, will remain forever with me.
America and The U.K, brothers and sisters who stand strong together for liberty and freedom. Together we are the elite, the most leathal in battle and stand up against tyrants who threaten to oppress us by bringing to them what is often confused with The Wrath of God. We will never surrender and never retreat. In the name of Liberty, of patriotism & everything dear to the American and British character,
we will sustain ourselves as long as possible and die like soldiers who never forget what is due to their own honor & that of their country. I served with British troops in combat and it was an honor. They are now my brothers in arms and I will stand strong with my brothers and if need be we will defend our homelands till the very last one of us is standing. We will fight and defeat anyone who wishes to oppress us.
Yes anyone because we love our homes with a ferocity that people from other places just cant comprehend. We dont back down and will fight em all the way back to where they came from. Rebellion to Tyrants is Obedience to God, and this is our home and we will be damned if we are going to let anyone come take advantage of it, bring down freedom and destroy what it stands for.
Ever since I was a kid, words cant describe how honored I am to have the UK as our brothers and sisters, our greatest Allies. We will always have your back dear friend.
God bless America, Great Britain, Italy.. all the entire world.
Not to be rude, but using your logic, if we went to war with the UK over them seasing our shipping, it would be a war of independce even though we are both sovegin nations?
@minecraftloverftw my initial comment is in response to the historical relationship of Britain/U.S. in relation to this poem and the subsequently profound impact of hearing Britain honor us by singing it. the USA was a soverign nation upon the signing of the Declaration of Independence. the American Revolution was fought to (officially) establish our independence; the War of 1812 was fought to maintain it. my initial comment is to express my appreciation for Britain's gesture in this video
@davidpar2 nothink has been said about americas plans to declare war on great britain in the 1930s by attacking canada also other countrys to anger the british into war with america?
quite a measure of grace it was, from the British that day--to honor us by singing the anthem composed in response to our war for independence from them. thank you, UK
IN MEMORIAN AND IN REMEMBRANCE of all the innocent litle lives that had perished and been murdered at the hand of the Americans AND British and countless countless countless countless countless countless countless countless countless countless countless countless countless countless countless countless countless countless many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many God bless them amen.
ironic that the anthem is about a battle fought between the british and americans (the british lost) im so happy that that is all behind us we owe a lot to the usa remember the eagle squadron remember 9/11 and we will stand united
As someone who studies and admires history, I can only hope that the Middle East and the United States can be united in the face of some horrible disaster like the British were with us after 9-11... The Brits burned down the White House and they are our greatest ally now (and have been for over a Century). I guess I can only pray for peace in the next few hundred years and continue to study the past for posterity.
A million thanks to our brothers and friends across the pond for the amazing support during this awful time. It means a lot to all of us Americans. 10 years later the images are still burned into our minds. Never forget, Never surrender. God bless the troops, God bless America, and God save the queen.
When they began singing, I burst into tears. I'm 13. I was less than a month from 4 when 9/11 happened. The post-.9/11 world is all my younger siblings and I know. Adults just don't understand what it's like to have those horrible images pounded into your head since childhood.
Seeing the outpouring of support and love from our friends across the Atlantic gave me chills- and still does. I feel a little safer knowing that no matter what, my country can count on yours for a little encouragement.
You Americans are the greatest allies any country could have. We both stood tall after 9/11 and every attack since, and 10 years on, we still do. Yes we argue, but Britain and American are brothers in arms, and brothers fight, but we will defend each other at any cost. God bless the UK and USA
this just breaks my hear....its nice to know that britain is showin just how much they care for us americans...i cant watch this and not cry....this sunday it will be 10 years...thank you britain for the love
@KudzuRadical I've been to Britain a couple of times and I found the English to be helpful and very nice people. A bunch of us from college went over to help an English church do a "Holiday Bible School" and most of what we did was talk to random people and invite them to come. We got a few "bloody Yank" comments, but the vast majority of them were great.
@tarajadethorne The UK like the USA have our fair share of idiots and American haters but gladly these morons are in the minority and are people that have never been nor ever will travel more that 10 miles from the inbred towns that they inhabit..
@KudzuRadical I don't know when you were in London, but that certainly wasn't my experience 19 years ago when I went to see the Queen during her Annus Horribilis. I loved the Brits, their country, their sense of humor, their tepid ale--even the food and the weather. Everyone was nice and very helpful. They smelled really good, too, like the high-quality soap our grandmothers used to have. Too many Americans smell like carpet deodorizer. Hope the Brits don't all smell like AXE now, too.
The Star Spangled Banner was written during the War of 1812, the last war we had with Britain. The rockets red glare & bombs bursting in air were English bombs. Just like a family squable. You butt heads with your cousins for only so long until you realize that the love is still there.
@ireneobien1954 I know - how ironic this all is. Still, it makes most patriotic Americans emotional watching this, given the circumstances. How it all comes back - that horrific day in 2001. The people of the United Kingdom deserve our thanks and appreciation. We were there for them in the '40s (in every way), and they were there for us, standing in solidarity and helping to console our deeply hurt nation after "that day."
beautiful irony. the anthem of a country that defied and fought king george for its independence sung in the cathedral where english monarchs are crowned. a relationship forged in hate and eventually resulting in great mutual respect and admiration. through our differences wiser men were able to recognize our common ideals, and create what may be the strongest and longest lasting alliance in the modern era. alas the politicians of our day can only see the narrow path paved by donors.
Things can be said about both great nations, but in times of tragedy or trouble it cannot be denied that we as allies have each others backs. I know it is said a lot and it may seem a little to repetitive but I'll say it anyway, God Bless America, God Bless our good friends in Great Britain, and God bless every self-respecting person in the world that deserves it. Thumbs up if you agree
@hccity100 I agree with the essence of your well-stated comments. We must remember, however, that it is also the government of the UK that released the Lockerbie bomber, a mass murderer who killed over 250 Americans. The bomber served less than 11 days - DAYS - in jail for every American he killed. Despite denials, the UK traded the Lockerbie bomber for 900 million quid worth of oil from Libya. The UK are our dear friends, but only when it's expedient for them.
@calebrochling Actually that would be the government of *Scotland* that released him. And if you've got a source for the £900m of oil comment feel free to share it ...
@palmersperry if you refer to "Scotland's" oil reserves surrounding that part of the British Isles, they I'll think you'll find they wont last much longer. So, if Scotland really wants to split, then after they run out in , ooh say... 40? years, you're more that a little bit fucked. All the contracts for the big companies (like BAE and such) lie in Whitehall's catacombs. Think about it....
@IRememberTheOldDays I made no comment at all with respect to the English/Scottish split of the UK's North Sea oil reserves. I merely commented that the decision to release him was a matter for the Scottish government (since Justice is a devolved matter), and not the UK government. Still awaiting your proof about said £900m of oil from Libya mind ...
America, Great Britain and Germany. Old Enemies New Friends. we are allies and always will be. we shall continue the fight for a free world....and we will succeed.
@UniverseIndistries nah mate listen a politicians are one thing and people are another . ya think a normal bloke from England acts like they do in the houses of commons nope . you and i are the same , the same people who make our countries good not the people who run/take our taxes and waste it .
i mean that too , not normally speak in this way but you lot are friends and friends you will stay .
@matthewmttyd i'm w/ you. he's a dork. the really average american either folllows the britiish royal family intensely, or just really don't care one way or another. if i was to meet the queen, i'd be blushing and not sure what to do. honestly the only thing i know is that i'm not supposed to bow, because t5hat's an insult to us both.
@ajlee35 no it is not , and defo not here in great britain, we owe the us a great deal for your help in 2 world wars.however it is true that your policies with regards the middle east and especially isreal are not so good, if america had not recognised the state of israel and had not supported her attacks on palastine , then 911 would never have happened...iam not anti jew by the way, just a realist. if russia helped the north american indians reclaim the state of colorado, how would you react?
@DeedsResearcher dear Sir, Thank you very much for your kind words, but a word of advice, We like to refer to ourselves as Britain, England is only part of the UK.Always make sure you include the good people of Scotland, Wales and Ireland (plus overseas), again your very kind, THANK YOU from Great Britain
@matthewmttyd well i mean i agreed with everything else. jeez why are you getting all offensive, yeah a lot of americans watched the wedding....but i highly doubt we would be okay with having a monarch as it goes against some of our values, not trying to fight just saw that and thought about it and went 'ehhh' with my one eye squint
@matthewmttyd ehhhh stand for most of the same things.....one thing, one person in particular in british society wouldnt exactly be wanted or defended here, we certainly wouldnt sing an anthem to them either
Thanks for standing by the USA! Lets continue to work side by side. God Bless the alliance!

I am certain many Britons noted the significance of holding the 9-11 Memorial in St. Paul's as the Cathedral held a stalwart place in their hearts during the London Blitz. Ironically on 07 September 2010 a similar service was held to commemorate that WWII tragedy. A most moving tribute.
cienh2o 4 months ago
While it is truly proper for Great Britian to honor America this way, is it not ironic that the song they are singing was born in a battle that was a major defeat for their country? Theirs were the "bombs bursting in air" that Francis Scott Key wrote about, and the ones that could not bring down the flag of the USA.
ArizonaKnightWolf 4 months ago

AstroGuy182 4 months ago 4
Yes anyone because we love our homes with a ferocity that people from other places just cant comprehend. We dont back down and will fight em all the way back to where they came from. Rebellion to Tyrants is Obedience to God, and this is our home and we will be damned if we are going to let anyone come take advantage of it, bring down freedom and destroy what it stands for.

minecraftloverftw 4 months ago
@minecraftloverftw the war of 1812 was the USA's war for independence from Britain--the final one. the first one was the American Revolution
davidpar2 4 months ago
@davidpar2
Not to be rude, but using your logic, if we went to war with the UK over them seasing our shipping, it would be a war of independce even though we are both sovegin nations?
minecraftloverftw 4 months ago
@minecraftloverftw my initial comment is in response to the historical relationship of Britain/U.S. in relation to this poem and the subsequently profound impact of hearing Britain honor us by singing it. the USA was a soverign nation upon the signing of the Declaration of Independence. the American Revolution was fought to (officially) establish our independence; the War of 1812 was fought to maintain it. my initial comment is to express my appreciation for Britain's gesture in this video

quite a measure of grace it was, from the British that day--to honor us by singing the anthem composed in response to our war for independence from them. thank you, UK

@tarajadethorne The UK like the USA have our fair share of idiots and American haters but gladly these morons are in the minority and are people that have never been nor ever will travel more that 10 miles from the inbred towns that they inhabit..
grooverheliboy 4 months ago

You butt heads with your cousins for only so long until you realize that the love is still there.
ireneobien1954 5 months ago 3

Thumbs up if you agree
hccity100 5 months ago 54
@hccity100 I agree with the essence of your well-stated comments. We must remember, however, that it is also the government of the UK that released the Lockerbie bomber, a mass murderer who killed over 250 Americans. The bomber served less than 11 days - DAYS - in jail for every American he killed. Despite denials, the UK traded the Lockerbie bomber for 900 million quid worth of oil from Libya. The UK are our dear friends, but only when it's expedient for them.
calebrochling 4 months ago
@calebrochling Actually that would be the government of *Scotland* that released him. And if you've got a source for the £900m of oil comment feel free to share it ...
palmersperry 4 months ago
@palmersperry if you refer to "Scotland's" oil reserves surrounding that part of the British Isles, they I'll think you'll find they wont last much longer. So, if Scotland really wants to split, then after they run out in , ooh say... 40? years, you're more that a little bit fucked. All the contracts for the big companies (like BAE and such) lie in Whitehall's catacombs. Think about it....
IRememberTheOldDays 4 months ago
@IRememberTheOldDays I made no comment at all with respect to the English/Scottish split of the UK's North Sea oil reserves. I merely commented that the decision to release him was a matter for the Scottish government (since Justice is a devolved matter), and not the UK government. Still awaiting your proof about said £900m of oil from Libya mind ...

@palmersperry ohh, Im very sorry, I got the wrong end of that entirely. Please excuse
