Because its full of debiris that the tsunami has dredged up from the bottom of the sea, like coral, sand and other materials from the seas bed. I suppose those people didn't realise that the wave was dangerous.
@the561 the water is brown because the wave is caused by displacement therefore the wave reaches the bottom of the ocean where it picks up sand, dirt and even coral. In many cases just standing in the water could cause someone to get severely cut
