if you 'Kan høre' anything then it's giogio moroder. donna was olny the voice. you should look also for the soundtrack of minnight express (the chase) that'll explain a lot.
In my opinion this track is nothing new it's like the next episode of Third album or it can be a bonus track of Third. For me until now "Third is a masterpiece album of Portishead"
And suddenly it's avaible on vinyl! Thank you portishead!!! Great groovy song and definetly a kind of musical direction worth to explore for portishead!
This song is honestly one of the most wicked things the band has yet released, featuring a frenetic, jerky synthwave groove akin to the classic 1980s German Neue Deutsche Welle sound, with Beth Gibbons delivering her trademark hushed tones overtop.
it's been many years; finally good to have a favorite band again!!! now, to ride it out! stay blessed P. Seattle was greatfully rocked a few days prior.
I personally think Portishead of today are better than they have ever been. Adventurous spirits. Most people would be happy if they just repeated Glory Box ad nauseum.
for the longest time, i thought this song was called "Chase The Tear", tear as in tears when you cry. i watched jimmy fallon two nights ago and they played live and he said "Chase The Tear (Tuh-air)" as in tear paper in half. i had no idea.
@alvin156 Trip-hop was quite a short-lived genre, pretty much all classic trip-hop artists now make more rock oriented music. Third was still awesome, it just doesn't have anything to do with trip-hop.
I LOVE THIS SONG!.............want to know some bad-ass s h i t about the foo fighters that they dare not print anywhere....go to "walls flowers negfbjm" and press "see all" to find my 3 commetns. regards
@djshaithis Would you prefer that they released a song that sounded just like their back catalog of admittedly fantastic songs then? The trouble with bashing them for releasing a song that you don't like because it doesn't sound as good as their other material means they would never progress and evolve and then you would slate them for sounding the same. If you are so intent on reliving the glory days just go listen to something else and stop posting retarded comments.
@Toastertron@Toastertron ....if you chose to engage your brain before posting, or even read my post, you would see that I did not compare it to "their back catalog of admittedly fantastic songs". I said it was not good. For Portishead's bad tracks or tracks that differ from their norm, I give them credit for attempting something new. But when something is bad, I will say so. When I see Beth in October, I will give her my honest opinion. She has appreciated that in the past.....
@Toastertron .....far more than the mewling sycophants, for example"Fanatics of NIN or U2", who think everything produced by a band can be redeemed solely by the performer. I am honored and humbled to have the fortune of being a friend of the band and I hope my honest opinion is one of the reasons Beth always puts me on the list. All change is not good, it's just change. Good is good, and bad is bad. But after all, these are only dissenting opinions and mean nothing to the likes of you.
@djshaithis Oh wait my bad! Sorry I didn't realise you were a friend of the band! I take back everything I said and you win. No, no you win! You are a friend of the band, how could I possibly argue against a relationship like that.
Wow, I should really pick my battles a little better in future.
... friend of the band, nice one. I'll remember that.
@Toastertron No, you pissant. Just use your brain before you use your flippant lip. It's too bad you take this as a win/lose event. You may have learned something. This is a singular comment. About one song. You come off as a fanatic who cannot accept criticism of the idol of worship. You're profile says you are 38, yet you behave as a child. Grow and learn.
For being a friend of the band, I would like to think you've been in the loop of this song longer than merely a month ago, when you left your concise yet elucidating commentary on it.
I'm not a friend of the band, and I downloaded this song a year-and-a-half ago.
@mellamoputo : not following a band like a rabid dog. Music is not my life, it is something I enjoy casually . I haven't been in a record shop in 5 years and I don't i-tune. People send me music they think I'd enjoy, and I have many people who call me friend that I haven't seen for years. That being said, I just think Toastertron is a putz and I stand by my simple yet complete thought on this song..... and now I know why no one told me about it....or if they did....I don't remember.
I try and move with artists. I try to respect their need for change and I appreciate good artists and their desires to progress artistically and not put out the same music over and over. And I love Portishead and Beth Gibbons like nobody's business. Always have, always will. Changed my life.
Her voice is just so damn amazing, I fell in love with them at least 13 years ago now, and every time I come across them on the web, it starts my obsession all over again with Portishead. This music doesn't fit ANY one category, almost always haunting & hugely atmospheric, emotional & physical, & so much more. Very difficult to find the words to describe just HOW awesome their music is.
I have a feeling alot of people watching this dont 100% like it, this song has a "Third" vibe (their third album) which I didn't like at first, but one night i listened to the whole album all the way through and I gotta say, I was hypnotized by it. I was drooling on my pillow cus I was so fuckin lost in it, its like walking through a spooky funhouse and beth is singing on an intercom

Impressive guitar solo there in the end by Mr Utley ;) Brilliant song, Beth is incredible as always. Got a ticket for their show in Alexandra Palace, can't wait for July...
I've liked portishead for a while now, I bought PNYC which I listened to constantly and when hearing the self titled and dummy I felt they lacked some of the emotion of their live versions. Third, however took me by surprise. Yes; thank you for your subjective opinion. However I was more interested in something more concrete; to requote myself: "How long did it take for you guys to come around to Third?"
I really enjoyed the first 2 albums but I'm having a hard time getting acquainted with Third.
.
It all feels so much more droning, stiff, industrial; and soulless (and not in the good way).
.
I can't help but feel that some of the hype comes from their past achievement + the idea that if you don't "get" the experimental stuff, it's b/c you're dense.
.
How long did it take for you guys to come around to Third? At the moment I'm not digging the "Krautrock" sound.
i hope this spawns new songs by them, but anything new will never come close to third or the dummy records! not at all, there is alot more newness in the old music,
The one with lots of knobs, seen first in the video (0:05) is EMS VCS3 and then for a second we can see something that looks like Korg M500 Micro-Preset (1:27).
Yes, I've been listening to their old songs for about 10 years already, and yes, I love them. Second album is amazing, and "Melody Nelson" is a top example of production for me. But this track sucks in my opinion. As a "Third" album. Not because I don't like the genre itself (c'mon, "Third" is not trip-hop anymore), but because I know a lot of much more inspiring examples of it.
Definitely different, but I'm guessing they know they need to try something new. This beat reminds me of some devo version of donna summers I feel love... I dunno, sounds good though, and of course nothing but love for Beth's voice, lyrics and intense emotion.
and the right not to be subjected to torture or cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment.

No, the question "How long does it take to like their album" is subjective.
The question "how long did it take for you to like their album" is objective.
.
There is a distinction between an answer that varies and an answer that is inherently subjective.
.
It is similar to asking, "Which is the better artist" versus "which artist do you prefer"

I don't quite understand the "all-or-none" attitude. I am warming up to it. I like some songs but am lukewarm to others.

Furthermore, "Giiiiiit out" is a rather bizarre course of action. How does one get out of the internet? Was one ever "in it" to begin with?
.
I thank you for your response to the time frame component of my question.

@JWednes

@SonnieGrey listen to some old songs, then you will love it (google trandlator:слушать старые песни, то вы будете любить его)

Thanx for the respond!

Definitely different, but I'm guessing they know they need to try something new. This beat reminds me of some devo version of donna summers I feel love... I dunno, sounds good though, and of course nothing but love for Beth's voice, lyrics and intense emotion.

Definitely not their best, but, being Portishead, still awesome...
