You can't repair it! You have bad bearings... I have same problem on my Toshiba! But your computer still reconize the drive? I cant know beacause my Toshiba has first head crash and than bad bearings! lol 5*
Seizing spindle bearing. Toshiba drives are notorious for it. If you don't futz with it too much, you can usually run it for long enough to image it if you stand it on its side, propped at a 90 deg angle.
It's really sad that Apple is pretending that many of the drives in their Powerbook G4's are defective. I've used Apple for a long time, and their customer service used to be among the best.
I've had my harddrive fail once on my Powerbook, and it's starting to sound like it's going to fail again. Now I'm out of warranty, and I'm VERY hesitant to buy a MacBookPro.
hi my drive is dying on my 12 inch power g4 i went to a few shops but nobody could tell me which drive to buy in the specs it just says ata but which kind ata would work?please help thanks.
Already had one of those in a 15 iBook - bearing in hard drive is out preventing it from reaching full speed and initializing - turn up side down to take pressure of disk off of bearing - sometimes those Toshiba HD's can come to life again long enough to recover all data.
I don't know what the exact specs are but, it's a Toshiba drive. I took a dead one out of a VAIO recently and the label is identical to the one in this video. Fujitsu drives usually have a rectangular label and has a large "Fujitsu" logo in the upper left corner. Anyways, Toshiba drives are junk. They don't expect their product to last if they only offer a 1 year warranty (like Maxtor did).
wait my laptop does that to even if its cooled and i barely open it...

My drive just died so hearing that sound again saddens me. Any pointers on possible data retrieval?

Where can you find this kind of SATA-to-FireWire convertor. All I can find are SATA-to-USB.

this looked like an IDE to Firewire connector. Check eBay.
