  • who cares just enjoy the song,

  • Very cool.

  • This has always been mine paddys song love it xx

  • only best from a cork man..

  • i wish people of scotland and ireland would realise that they are of the same people.

  • eh they wont hopefully cause they're not! im Irish and only similar to half of scottish people

  • @michealcarney but scotlands real culture, not what the english have forced into scottish culture. the scots where an irish clan who came to scotland! we both speak similar languages and have both suffered from the hands of english, they tried to destroy our cultures

  • When Scotland becomes it's own country again 2014, they should play this song in the streets, and along the Clyde, a thousand times.

  • We're playing this song in band class!(:

  • Masterpiece. No doubt.

  • Christy Moore is a master

  • extreme talent ...

  • Very nice song

  • i love this song so much :D

  • amazing music. This is the best it gets.

  • god we are nearest neighbours leave us alone x

  • This is a beautiful song with fantastic versions from Scotland, Ireland and America. Even us English try to keep up! :-)

Now perhaps we can let music be music?

  • Why does it always take an Irish person to properly sing Scottish/English folk songs, this, wild mountain thyme (mcPeake's) and Dirty Old Town (Dubliners) to name but a few!

  • @irishredwinterrose

But Northern Ireland, unfortunately, is still part of the isle of Britain.

    26+6=1

  • this goes to sparky 19691000 who says that christy's talent doesnt amount to much. All I have to say is that you have no concept of Irish music whatsoever.

  • @irishredwinterrose

and forever shall it feckin ever be!!!!!

  • Why is everyone talking about England vs. Ireland? It's a Scottish-cum-American song.

  • Irish, English, Protestant, Catholic or whatever ....... could you please just stop hating each other.

  • @irishredwinterrose Im Irish from Dublin

  • @irishredwinterrose I meant to say its a pity Scotland is part of Britain sorry

  • Goodbye Julia. amazing emotional song so true to real life.

  • too tommy moloney jr rip my good friend from david hickey in moyross, never forgotten

  • the song made me cry! (im from irelend

  • People need to get over the politics and appreciate it for what it is.

  • is a very good version

  • Check out this version - real soul!!!!!!!!!!!!

Channel - ggdavies - black is the colour

  • One of many of my favorite Christy songs x

  • @TheMagroc I think i love you xxx

  • Yvonne hates this song.

  • @dezzie50 Agreed, he's like Daniel O'Donnell. Over-rated but has somehow found a niche in the market.

  • @tommyaquinas

Get your facts right you bloody dum ass, Daniel O'Donnell is NO Christy Moore and never will be. Christy sings from the heart.

  • @Sparky19691000 I'm not saying he is Daniel O'Donnell. I just think, like Daniel, his musical talent amounts to nothing much.

  • @tommyaquinas So if he doesnt posses musical talent of an kind, what would you, personally, attribute his success in music to? Do you mean his technical talent in handling an instrument? Or his ability to sing?

  • @frogspawn45 your so rude im from irelend!!!!! i hate you!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @dezzie50 he explains in all his live versions of this song that he doesn't own this song. they just cut it out for this one..

  • @dezzie50 get a life u sad human being ..we all well no its not his song ..hes amazing if u dnt like him then dnt listen to him nd leave comments :S:S

  • Great song

  • Great version. Nice job Christy.

  • It's amazing how song clings to memories from the past giving them new lease of life for the future...

  • I remember when our English teacher showed us this song back in high school... he was absolutely right to do so, thanks for it!

  • 14 people are inept of emotion

  • not really - why go and see someone if you don't want to listen? A minstrel lives to perform and performs to survive?

  • write a letter and suffer death a thousand times...

  • im loving this song:)

  • i like the celtic thunder version better but this is good to

  • @lol22459 never even heard of celtic thunder before but ill give them a look up

  • Now that is a serious man :)

  • People, It's a traditional Scottish folk song! Hamish Imlach was doing this song 50 years ago. It was however first recorded in the startes. I've heard many different versions of this song, my grandfather used to sing a version when he was alive that he learnt as a child circa 1920's/30's in which he used east coast (Scotland) Vernacular. Many Scottish songs people (especially in the states) presume are Irish. Nevertheless this is understandable due Scot/Irish cultural ties. A lot of cross-over.

  • @Leodhas77 Ireland and Scotland have so much in commen , It's a shame there part of the same Island as England .. .

  • @UnknownBombers ireland is not part of the UK except the north of the island. please get your facts right.

  • @SKOOBZ09 Thankfully

  • @Leodhas77

im from dublin, and i well know this song is Scottish,

the best scots song ever wrote by far, but i love christies version

  • @Leodhas77 yeh we got cross over as you call it, and im proud of it, glad us irish have such close ties to the scots, you are a country of fighters just like us, imagine havin the bond between ireland and scotland with the english or somethin!! things can always be worse!!! ps. look up how scotland got its name.. maybe you already know, us irish invaded your west coast and we were called the (scoti) an irish tribe that eventually settled, look it up its very interestin, the irish/scots 4eva!!Ha

  • I love Christy Moore's voice...smooth as honey isn't it?

  • I first heard this from Christy's younger brother, live, when he(Luka Bloom;not his real name obviously!) was first starting out,in a tiny and intimate little club that doesn't exist anymore, and I never forgot it-and I'm NOT going to get into who I think did a better rendition;they're both beautiful, they've both touched my heart in a BIG way. What feeling!Brings tears to your eyes.

  • thank god for a beautiful singer their can only be one christy moore

  • What a beautiful, beautiful song and so well sung

  • is this the original?

  • @harrypotterchachacha no. i don't know the author. it's a glaswegian song. christy won't reveal his or her name.

  • @kilomeister ohk thanks:)

  • @kilomeister nobody knows who wrote it.It goes back a lo-o-ng way,but it is indeed a scottish folk song;the earliest versions known reference the River Clyde.

  • @kilomeister IM sharin 4m glasgow the author is called christy moore

  • @christybertie74 the sharin 4m better read their books. next they'll say the furry's wrote green fields of france.

  • I'm russian, and my little son is half irish.we love ireland in russia, its culture and people and guiness :).i admire christy moore, he's one of my favourites. especially black is the colour and the voyage and back home to derry. i love his songs

  • beautiful version of this song!

  • no one does it better than christy, hes some man for one man!

  • @daryl2901 if he could shit standing up he be a horse of a man :)

  • @daryl2901

    cara dillon

  • @daryl2901 Don´t just put him on a pedestal yet. I hear he´s very difficult when it comes to the noise his audience produces. Everyone must be quiet when he plays. Kind of arrogant don´t you think?

  • @FuriousImp You have quite obviously never tried to play a gig with just yourself and an acoustic guitar. I have many a time, and sometimes noise from the audience is welcome, but at others it ruins the feel of the song. When you have a full band (drums and bass) you can feel where you are in a song, but when you are alone, it is sometimes impossible. Arrogant? No, just a professional with pride in his work. Christy Moore is one of the finest performers this planet will ever see.

  • fantastic stuff........i play this beautiful song too check it out ,,,, seanie k black is the colour

  • This is the saddest love song ever. If you havnt loved and lost, then you havnt really experienced the full cycle of love!

  • fantastic song, every version sounds good but this one is the best by far.

    Great upload thanks;O)

  • you should listen to celtic thunders version on their heritage promo vid if you like more power in your music

  • dream

  • he went to my school!!!!

  • NICE 1

  • I used to love Hamish Imlach singing this but Christy's done a great job on this. Can anyone tell me if he is touring Scotland any time soon?

  • you just missed him..he was here a few weeks ago. He comes here every 18months or so, you've got a bit of a wait! He's worth the wait though! :) If you do go see him then try and go to the Barrowlands gig, it's superb!

  • I think in his website guestbook he mentions he plans on coming to Scotland in spring 2011

  • He has just finished his tour of Scotland for 2009 in November you should keep checking his dates on his webstie m8.Go to the barrowlands it is brilliant.

  • Okay, to all you guitar players out there, am I crazy or is his guitar tuned:

FADGBE rather than EADGBE? He may play all or most of his tunes like that and everyone says I'm crazy...

  • Comment removed

  • I think your right, when he's doing the F chord he doesn't appear to be holding the bass note with his thumb. Also if you pause the clip at 2:12 and count the frets, he is playing the G bass note with his thumb on the 2nd fret (relative to capo) not the third fret as one should in standard tuning.

I can't say for sure wether or not you're crazy but I'm fairly sure you're right about this wierd tuning. happy playing:)

  • Uhhhh... I'm saying he tunes the low E string to an F (open) so when he's got the capo on there, it's an F#. This tune is in B flat minor (Am capo 1) but when he plays the F# major chord, the low E is playing F#....

  • You can really see the emotions in his face. Amazing song and singing!

  • I wish he'd come to Australia.

  • grt singing but d grt thomas maccarthy has arrived hear his version of this song
