I think he's done a technically perfect, neat and concise kata, for the taste of the judges, but as a result, it's becoming boring and some power has been taken out of the kata. I think he's capable of doing at 100% power and less tidiness but chose to do it at 70% power for this tournament.

he doesnt snap as much on the front kick because he modified it for tournament reasons...basically he just puts more emphasis on the extension of the leg...he's awesome no matter what he does

He is doing a version of the kata more advanced than the version popularized in tournaments: kansetzu are not snap kicks, but thrust kicks.
