  • ohh! i want to go to aff but this video scaring me...

  • I never noticed these training videos on Youtube before, I'm looking through all the hardcore base jumps, trying to make myself feel good about my first static line jump lol.

  • no words :)

  • i like how he pulls and looks at it like "fuck " was that suppose to happen and still holds on to it. good jump master. saved u a pain full ball crushing opening

  • I know nothing about skydiving but I'm getting the distinct impression that, even if it saves your life, pulling the reserve chute is an unpleasant experience, why is that?

  • @reluctable the reason people dont like to open a reserve is first it meant to open a lot faster then the main causing a little bit of pain in your balls if u know what i mean second u have to pay to get it re pact by a certified packer and third is, now u have to pray to god every thing works because the reserve is all u got and there a few other things

  • @jpgusa Well that explains that, I'd imagine it was the 'pain in the balls' part the video was referring to then, thanks.

  • did he died?

  • did he died?

  • Wait till you have a bag lock at 1600 feet!

  • cool video dude, glad all worked out!!

  • that has to be the best video of what a jumpmaster is trained to do. good job bro. i have seen vids of JM who leave the student to fend for himself, just AWFUL!!

  • Excellent instructor!! Stays at the students side, perfect.

  • NIce job on the instructor and student!....

  • i had on my verry first AFF jump , a twist and line over , i managed to get it out without pulling reserve. i was pretty proud on myself exept for the butlanding.

  • as in everything, failure can occur. material of pilot chute packed between the spring as it is compressed is to decrease metal on metal hang up of spring...but bridle should be clear of any pilot chute body. packing error caused pilot chute hesitation. spring loaded pilot chutes are used on student gear, & every reserve. main S.L.P.C.s get more used & wear, eventually losing springiness, also resulting in P.C. hesitation. a few extra seconds at pull time can seem like an eternity.

  • lucky fucking bastard xD. I go on my first tandem dive next week, totally fucking psyched

  • epic vid, what song is this?

  • @martialart23 Thanks for the comment - I have no idea what song that is - Youtube decided to remove the original song (probably because of copyright issues) and replace it with the current one - sorry I cant help.

  • Great JM!! Nice work. Well donne!

  • @paulomsilva Thanks

  • The instructor made sure it was open before exit. A+ calm, skilled and very clever.

  • Nice job man!!

  • hahahaha That was hysterical, the look on the students face was priceless.

  • had this two days ago at my 16th jump total. since i'm not doing an aff training i was all alone in the air. pulled the chord, waiting, waiting, wating, looking back, seeing the hotdog (pc with spring) tangling behind me just like in this video. just thought: no please not a reserve this early, and while i was looking for the handles it finally opened. quite scary when your are a student ...

thnx for the video! helped me understand what was wrong in my jump. got rid of the hotdog now.

  • @hedgehogtk agh no way, id say that was some funny, lucky ive never had a problem so far. at least your still alive to jump

  • @hedgehogtk Dude - glad it all worked out.

  • @d19407 Sometimes its the PC thats stuck in the burble. Happens.

  • Do you know why it opens so slow? But Great job to the jumpmaster.

  • @wixfrosch The bridle is choking off the spring loaded pilot chute (you can see it if you look close) - its a great example of what can happen if this type of pilot chute is not packed correctly (or twisted on opening) - the bag is large enough (in some circumstances) to initiate opening - however, don't take this as the standard operating procedure.

  • Is the AFF instructor really supposed to open the container in that scenario? Had that dbag stayed around his back, that could have made for a nasty double mal.

  • @braden252 Good question: But what are the choices? I do it, or the student does it (maybe) or the Cypress does it (hopefully) - either way its not good. AFF training (at least then) said yes I should pull the reserve and I would have if needed.

  • That was a great bit of flying you did there and it was lucky the student was nice and steady. If you had told me about this in the bar I would have thought the drink was talking.

  • That looks nothing like a horseshoe mal

  • @Khekkie You are correct its not a horseshoe mal - The bridal is choking of the PC - if you watch carefully you can catch a glimpse of it in the video.

  • ouch. was it the pin? looks like a horseshoe malfunction.

  • could you imagin that.... seeing the bag come floating over your shoulder lol

  • guys...this looks like a spring loaded PC. How can a springloaded be a colapsable PC???

  • Uncocked pilot chute?

  • Indeed. Sounds like an instructor decided to not check for color in the bridal...

  • @bamfskydiver Negative - this was a spring loaded PC - no color or cocking. See my comments on why this happened.

  • @d19407 oh yeah i can kinda see the spring in the PC, packer or jumper error? or just one of the WTF malfunctions?

  • @bamfskydiver Its hard to say if it got packed in there, so I put it down to just one of those WTF mals

  • Houston we have a problem...

Good to see a happy end :)

  • yeh i hear that opening that reserve at terminal velocity doesn't feel too good. aren't some rigs designed that if the reserve deploys, it may synch down on your shoulder and leg harnesses? Not sure just a rumor I heard.

  • My one reserve ride felt pretty smooth but its often difficult to know adrenaline can alter ones perception or reality mostly, I felt mighty happy it all worked the way it was supposed to.

  • glad the student didnt panic..it would have gotten worst ..

  • omg wow really you were lucky i got so scared i thought you were going to splat i saw the pack and its not opening but good luck on your next jump im 12 years old and i really want to do this i have to be 18 dosent that suck

  • lol sad to hear that.... im 13 and im going skydiving for my 14th bday!! im in australia so the laws are different!!!

  • very very nice dude i hope you have fun dude and hope you a safe dive

  • thats not true .. i was 14 years old and i jumped in TEXEL @ The Netherlands .. it was very very scary .. but after the first 5 secs it is awesome ..

  • If youre living in the USA then I think 18 is generally the minimum but contact your local drop zone, sometimes they allow you to jump at 16 with a waiver signed by your parents. Outside of the USA I have no idea but from the comments posted here it seems you can get a flight to Australia and jump at 14 expensive jump - lol

  • o thanks dude lol i really want to go now but in Nj they are makeing an indoor wind tunnel in the medowlands so im kinda exited :)

  • whats funny to me is hes starring at the rip cord like, WTF is going on im still falling. LOL Props to the JM for waiting til 100% opening to let go of him.

  • What a great JM. That is the kind of guy I would want to jump with everytime.

  • The student was blissfully unaware of what was going on at the time - he did thank me once he saw the video though.

  • @drtbikekid1 Thanks - very nice of you to say so.

  • @drtbikekid1 I damn well agree - cool and calm in the face of problems! Well done.

  • what actually went wrong, whyd it happen

  • If you look closely you will see the pilot chute is not fully inflated - you can see this clearly 20-26 seconds. Without full inflation there was not enough drag to pull out the main bag. Fortunately once the main bag was out of the container (a little assist from me) there was enough drag to open the main.

  • I had the exact thing happen to me on my very first AFF (I was the student) back in 1990. My instructor explained what happened - really good to see what it looked like in real life. BTW, I let go of the rip cord. This guy gets props.

  • nice work

  • what an awesome video, especially for skydivers anyway!

Did you have words with whoever did the pack job?

  • Yes - Some words were exchanged - lol

  • lol thanks to u hahah dont hold on to it hahahahahhahahahahahahha
