I'm 14 years old at the moment. When I leave school I'm hopefully going to go to AFC Harrogate (if all goes to plan) then move on to ITC Catterick. I haven't made up my mind on which regiment to join, I seem to be stuck between the Rifles and the Grenadier Guards. Any tips or suggestions?
I know a young lad who was a highly paid pilot who is now serving in Helmand province. My old friend from school was accepted into oxford university, you can see him guarding buckingham palace as a regular guardsman today. I also know an economic analyst who became a geographic technician in the army and a man who gave up a well paid IT job. He's in the paras now. I have a degree in geology and I'm heading to sandhurst soon. So I don't think the words half celled and all of that fit thi
@JAYSR94 The Second is Nijmegen Company. The Company is based in Wellington Barracks, London, and it is largely focused on public duties and state ceremonial events. A soldier passing out of basic training will be posted to Nijmegen Company for six to nine months. In this time, the Guardsman's training is built upon so that he is well prepared to take up his life in the 1st Battalion. (All information is from the Grenadier Guards website)
@x187xRnR Good on you, my Dad joined at 16 as a private, got RSM and is now a Major so isuppose it doesn't matter how you start you can always prove your self and do well! It's all about respect i suppose...
@Philtards We are the best in the world I don't just think that because I live in England, I know that because our forces are superior in almost every way
I was in the RASC in 1960 stationed at Wuppertal Germany I had to do 28 days nick at the Guards in Hubblerath, talk about thick and stupid the Guards took the cake.Hope they have more nous now. Tried to break me, what a joke
@jimmybboi101 na, theres the guards parashute platoon, which are all 5 foot guards maybe horse guards but im not sure. If you pass P company you go serve with 3para i think as a regular paratooper.
@jimmybboi101 Grenadier Guards, and the other 4 foot guard regiments, form a single platoon in 3rd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment. All members are required to complete P Coy and Basic Parachuting. There is also the option at the end of your stint in the platoon to transfer completely to the Paras. Which, by all accounts, the majority do.
As far as I know, the platoon causes a bit of animosity within the Para side, as they see it as an anomaly history left behind.
I want to join the grenadiers and would like to be an officer too. But i dont no whether iw ould want the responsibility of other mens lives on my head.
Why on any army video is there always a debate about what armys the best or who has the best special forces! most of the people commentings knowledge is merely supplied by video games and movies!
I don't know if the British Army is the best, and frankly no one does since there is no objective measurement to quantify what is the best army in the world.
What I do see is that with much less resources the British Army has been able to sustain similar success in battlefields as US forces around the world. It also has some of the best special forces.
Also, the British Army has more human intelligence and counter insurgency experience from Northern Ireland, which the US doesn't.
@alvindurochermtl british army is the best! all governments from all over the world know that. its only there citizens who like to disagree.and we dont have some of the best special forces we have "thee best special forces" we are the best at war. all governments know that. thats why when the army is recruiting it says join the british army and be the best. we have the best intelligence in the world also. mi5 and mi6.
@british123able While I'd agree that the British Army is one of the best I'd refrain from making such statement as they are the absolute best. If you say they are the best then what would be your standard of measurement? Is there some sort of a global ranking? I think there is a distinction between marketing tag line and substance in this world and it's not unknown that there have been blunders even in the British Army, to be truly objective.
Possibly, however have you considered the act that instead of making a mockery of the British Army's recruitment scheme you should be praising the work they are doing, and the cause...
@mcca99 People have all kinds of reason to join or not to join the army or be in any profession for that matter. It's not for you to judge whether these people are mad.
Construction and factory workers could get injured or lose a limb too.
There are people who joined the military out of a sincere belief they are protecting their country. If you haven't the guts to do their job, at least show some respect to these people.
Perhaps you should talk to some soldiers and find out what they want to do, hmm? Oh, wait, thats simply answered - the want to -fight-. You don't join the British Army not to fight.
@mcca99 And tell me,brain donor, where would we be without an army to guard us,had Germany invaded back in the 40s had you been born ,you would have been one of the first to scream for your mother.you silly selfish bastard
@barneyboscoe What the fuck are you talking about. ww2 is completly different, MASSIVE respect to the lads that defended Great Britain. But im sorry in this day and age why a young man would want to go half way across the world to fight a war (if you can even call it that) that means nothing they are in my opinion mental. Do you think its coincidence that many new recruits have failed at school and look at the army as a last resort? I love Britain but anyone with half a brain cell dosn't join.,
@mcca99 They have no choice ingoing or not going , halfway across the world, they have signed on as professional soldiers to do their duty anywhere they are sent and know the risks,i can assure you they are NOT mental ,very many have degree's ,have you? i have, and consider the thousands of servicemen who have left their boring jobs and sedentary lives to enlist,i had eighteen good years in the R.E.M.E,and came out to a good job and a pension,A pity they don't bring back national sevice,
@mcca99 Yet they are the reason you are not speaking german / in a concentration camp / being tortured by the gestapo. Just be glad there are people braver than you who are selfless enough to take those risks.
so sorry to learn of your loss, and the rmp,s,everyone i speak to is proud of you all, take care and thanks lads, you all give so much, paul, liverpool,ex 9/12 royal lancer.ich dien.
Oh and by the way, the isle of man (because that's where you are from) just leeches from the defence that the real countries around you are providing! :)
Who said we were the best, we used to be but we not the best because
1)lack of funds
2)lack of equipment
3)lack of new recruits
4) unlike America our government is scared to send troops to do anything like they are precious jems. They joined up to fight therefor they should be used to their full potental.
But, and I am assuming u are american, Is America any better. NO you haven't won a single war in recent history. Can we put our differences aside. We are meant to be allies
I like their regimental march that is why. Look up the Battle of Camden and watch the scene from the patriot. That is the pride and disaplin of the regiment and the British Army.
Why? Regimental promotion video is always fun to watch that's why. It isn't much about the training that I am interested in, as any regiment could put together a video about army training anyway, it's the regimental tradition that attracts people. Take note of this if you happen to be a member of the regimental recruiting team. I was in the army and I'm now a corporate communications consultant.
Thats not a sabre its a scimitar. And they're operated by The Household Cavalry, not the Foot Guards

Any one that joins the army is mad.
Perhaps they should show a video of a wounded soldier that has lost both arms and legs?
I think that would put many of these ''new'' recruits off.
