May I suggest you get all facts before publicly posting negative comments. Every effort was made to save these boats. Design life was only 50 years & thanks to Salters they have doubled that & many steamers still operate today. Safety regs get tighter & the MCA deemed "Mapledurham" no longer usable. Salters tried to pass her on but no one was willing to take on the vast amount of work required. "Cliveden" has not been scrapped it is still in Salters yard, perhaps you would like to purchase her?
Liam - thank you so much for posting this wonderful film - pure nostalgia. What a terrible tragedy though, that Salters failed to maintain their fleet of 'steamers' and quite recently beautiful and historic craft such as Mapledurham, featured in this film, Cliveden, Marlow etc, have been allowed to deteriorate and then just scrapped. Surely they should have been saved - if not by Salters, then at least donated to people or organisations willing to preserve them. Salters should be ashamed...
