  • @wackybumcheek hes the king of the workin man in my eyes

  • raise your glasses to the dirty old broutes who can get themselves a young wife-fair to play-class song

  • I wonder if they ever played in Newfoundland? We had a pretty good irish group here in the 70's as well in Ryan's Fancy.

  • my dads mate used to sing this at parties, and my parents would send me out of the room! ah catholic Ireland, i survived it thank eh.. the man!

  • Jesus i just love bein a dub watchin these...luke is a legend!!!!

  • another classic by luke, lol, but wooden johns and ronnies shirts cut the 2 eyes out of ya.

  • Dances wit llamas that was for you btw try to sound intelligent with your big fuckin words. This is a classic luke kelly song! I personally can do without readind hard to discifer bullshit so do me and probably a few others. Shut the fuck up!!!!

  • Shut up ye dumb cunts and just enjoy the music and songs!

  • Looks like Luke had no problem keeping the sex the same in songs like this, like changing "him" to "her" since a guy is singing it.

  • Dont think the song would have worked if he had changed it.

  • Go bald you never go back haha.

  • I love that camera shot from the side that starts at 2:12, where they rack focus from Ciaran to Barney to Luke and eventually to John. Beautiful work, both by the lads and the camera operators.

  • LMFAO

Girls take a lesson from this song - always date young men while they still got their erection capabilities.

Sex was very important to the celtic peoples - much more so than the anglos across the pond. Where did celts come from? I have heard they originated in spain many tens of thousands of years ago. Which means they must have come from North Africa.

Which explains the curly part of Luke's hair. But where are all the red-blondes of Ireland per the Roman accounts?

  • Where are the remnants of the ancient picts, the ancient people of Ireland who were all red and blonde haired? What can account for the change in genetic make up, the phenotype? Red and blonde hair is a recessive gene - which indicates an excessive influx of dominant dark-haired genes from some outside source.

The original celts, from spain, originally came from Africa. Give or take 20,000 years to allow for skin and hair pigment to change and you've got your modern recognizable celts.

  • were you having a conversation with somebody here?

  • @DancesWithLlamas we all came from africa originally as i understand it. Made our way up to ireland and invaded by every local yocal, including the vikings. there is an excellent series on here the history of scotland.

  • I love these guys...they capture the essence of the Celtic spirit.

  • The chorus is not meant to make sense. Irish songs often contain words that do not make sense, they are maybe used instead of offensive words or just because it sounds good or suits the song. An example would be in The Dubliners song: Rocky road to Dublin "whack fol lol dee daa"

  • @johnnylyncher

That's true. But at the same time you know exactly what they are saying ;)

  • absolutely great !!!!

  • they played it along with the video in Vicar Street in July

  • I wonder why they don't play this song live anymore? ;)

  • look at the lady in red in front of him, she's really enjoying it ! lovely images of an irish world changing! i'll always adore you luke and ronnie and the rest of the DUBLINERS !

  • I don't think it's sense of humour and energy!

Although energy would probably come into it alright ;-)

Just listen to the verse when she meets a young man and you should be able to figure it out!

  • I think the word is "libido"...

    ;-P

  • wow, just wow what a performance

  • it's a pity to think only 50,000 have enjoyed this on u-tube....i hope it grows to infinity

  • i think fullurum means energy and denuaram his sort of sense of humor i think

  • Someone transcribe that chorus for me. Filurum? Dingdurum? Is that in Irish? Or is it nonsensical?

  • great to see the original dubliners in action kieran, barney, luke, john, and ronnie legends

  • I saw the Dubliners live yesterday evening. They played this video as a tribute to Luke.. It was pretty emotional (:

  • Did John forget to stop there at 3.35.

    Brilliant

  • Happy to be back!

(I lost my internet connection for a few weeks, and I think I missed this one the most!

    Kels youre the best :-)

  • absolute classic. luke kelly was so funny & talented!

  • Luke Kelly, Bob Ross'es twin seperated at birth.

  • @ToriMUGMallon Jesus loves Luke Kelly

  • @ToriMUGMallon

    totes

  • decowse....lol...providing there is something worthy of throwing the leg over;D

  • Great video and song! RIP Luke and Ronnie. You can tell this song was penned before the little blue pill was created;D

  • Is that vid from the turn up on swedish tv from the early 70s? Saw some vids by kellyoneill an dubliner85 on youtube that fearured these 5 guys in always the same dress..

  • I found this by mistake on spotify by mistake. But it is no mistake!

  • love how he grabs barney's head with the ''into the arms of a handsame young lad'' and then draws a really disgusted face ;P

gotta love luke and his humour :D

  • I found this band three years ago on itunes by mistake. i clicked to download their best of album, no regrets. the best, luke kelly.

  • Can't quite follow what he's saying, but something tells me this is a dirty little ditty...

  • yeppers

  • It's like Kenny Everett used to claim....."All in the best possible taste...." lol. Only the Dubliners could get away with this.....

  • The Dubliners are my greatest influence.

  • I never thought he had an AFRO

And good ooo no brilliant song!!!

  • Nope,not an Afro.He was from Dublin.

I know many European people who have natural curly hair. Most seem to be embarrassed to show it, and have it cut as short as possible.

Not only was Luke's hair curly, but red too.And he was justifiably proud of it.

  • I dont think thats entirely true neohip, many men would love to have curly hair as glorious as this. In fact I have known a few who have endured a perm to get a similar result!

  • That is not what I meant,joeygsmom.

I meant that he was not ashamed of it like many men (and women) I have known seem to do now a days.

It was yet another startling and natural gift that Luke took to it's full potential.

  • I lost my ding doorum. Quick, find me an old maid.

  • Ouch.. losing that ding doorum can ruin your entire day! ;-)

  • If more women in Ireland 'threw the leg over him, just to oblige' the country would be in a better current state...haha!!! Dubliners are f*cking class...

  • @decoswe Well said This band is exelent!, so very sad we had to lose Mathew Kelly so soon.I have loved them since I first heard them aged eight .

  • @ozzymandi luke kelly

  • @funkwolf1

    Sorry , my mistake

  • @decoswe good one

  • @decoswe

I wish to have had a chance really, but again I was too late :C xD

  • Tribute to Luke Kelly - since 1993 I am fan of your music. Sleep in silence!

  • they were definetly the opend minded of their age! rest in peace luke and ronnie :) u were always so happy and smiling :)

  • Luke just looks like he is having such a fab time, it was maybe a bit risque for much of the audience....looking at the age of them. But nevertheless, a brilliant song and performance. The Dubliners were definitely the 'punk rockers' of the folk world.

  • Learnt this song off and sung it in a pub 2 weeks ago for a post wedding party. Was brill!!!

  • I find these live versions so wonderful even better than tha "studio" recordings, they were having so much fun you have to love it!

  • so unfortunate that Luke's intro would be considered perverted in some way in this day in age.. it's the unfortunate reality of all the pc shit, innocence goes out the window.. but what a song!

  • Well I guess you are letting lies and social engneering get to you.Political Correctness is a hangover from Stalinist Russia that has, quite frankly out stayed its welcome.Thankfully, our "Day and Age" is only a temporary thing, like Hitlers Germany.

One day, things shall return to normal.

I do not find Lukes Intro perverted in the least, and indeed a good bit of advice, but because of human nature will never be heeded!.

  • what are y talking about

  • Yes sorry,I lost the plot..I am an old fan of the Dubliners, who had never seen them in 'full flight' before. I was absoluletly blown away by this preformance, and was looking for reasons as to why "modern" musicians don't make them as good as this anymore. Also I guess I was expressing my disapointment of Generation Y.

Oh no! ...I think i'm turning into my own grandfather!.Oh sod that, but these guys are better than the Corrs!.

  • Let me second that neohip!!

  • This is surely the Dubliners at their very peak.I never new this was filmed, and am crying as I type this!.

  • buy the dvd "luke kelly the performer", this is on it, youll cry and laugh your face off! im 31 so i missed the glory days, but i bought the dvd and havent seen it since my old man aquired it!

  • love lukes face and expressions when he's singing the last verse..and again thanks to the very best group ever played!!

    up the dubs!!

  • Good on ya Luke.

  • a great song to sing to sing at nursing homes

  • Jayz the average age of the audience here is up there! Maybe that's why he seems a little off. How old is this? My guess is 72/73?

  • Mr Drew (God bless his soul) looks like he's a bit bored here. I can't understand how that would be possible, though. What an amazing performance by Kelly (God bless his soul as well)!

  • God how I love this music!!! The Dubliners are legends, and they always will be!

    God bless your soul, Luke!

  • You sang well, my red one. You will be severely missed.

  • What a talented guy he was. So strong.

  • Thanx a lot kellyoneill! By the way, I have been wondering: WHAT was Luke's eye colour? (I'm guessing brown or maybe green...)

  • Whilst serving on HMS Jufair, in July 1969 I heard his song for the first time.
