While I'll agree with the commenting haters who protest that much of the old-school rap deserves to be regarded with artistic merit, just about all of the music in the mainstream today does really suck. It is not a generation gap; today's music really overwhelmingly sucks, and lacks creative/technical value. While I'll agree with the commenting haters who protest that much of the old-school rap deserves to be regarded with artistic merit, just about all of the music in the mainstream today does really suck. It is not a generation gap; today's music really overwhelmingly sucks, and lacks creative/technical value. Anyone can come up with a really simple, bad melody and Auto-Tune his/her voice to accompany it, or come up with some quick, vulgar lyrics and call it music.

All the stupid stereotypes that you've posted seems to have been posted in another video before. It's a shame. The same idiotic and stereotypical comments are said and once more, rap is generalized by mainstream. This is exactly what pisses some people off.
Also, a lot of the songs that I've been listening to that are rap, I've listened to for a few months. Some a little shorter but I just started getting interested in rap (mostly underground) earlier this month.

I'd just like to say that I don't like rap just because of the beats, although, I like the beats of the drums in Ori Tahiti (nice and fast and not in a sexual way). I listen to it for more than that, such as the lyrics.
Some rappers can sing, some rappers don't and it's not talking, aye. It's rapping. Also, not all rap is rhyming.. it's just like poems. It doesn't necessarily have to rhyme.

By the way, it's Snoop Dog who's the rapper in that video. Not Akon. Another thing, not all rappers or rap groups use metronomes just like not all people who are musical artists use metronomes.
Some rappers/rap groups that use instruments, yes, live ones, are The Roots, The Fugees, Flobot, Public Enemy, Q-Tip, A Tribe Called Quest, just to name a few of course. Also, rap in general, mainstream or not does require at least a bit of talent.

Although, you two might not get it if you do not know how to look past the obvious, or what is written. If you try to find what it symbolizes or a deeper meaning, it may possibly make more sense towards you. Do, as typed, remember that not all rap is going to be like that song.

I bet all those irritating friends don't listen to a lot of underground, like most kids in our day and age, they are getting sucked into something that is popular, like one of you with the Hollister sweatshirt and once more, it is not all the same thing. All artists have their different styles and so on and so forth, just like other genres have sub-genres and the bands don't all sound the same. Yeah, it's the same genre but when it comes down to it, each artist has their own 'taste' mixed in.

Which is why, those who like all rap or those who like underground more than they do the mainstream dislike when idiots decide to generalize that all rap is like the mainstream because truthfully, not all are. There are some, sure, here and there but basing all the underground rappers .. that's what, in my opinion, sets people off.

There are music genres out there that is just instruments. Some are just screaming and noise. Some are whispering / screaming and noise. It doesn't mean that it is no longer a genre and rapping goes a bit farther than just.. talking and 'noise', as you like to call it.
There actually is better and worse. The mainstream rappers, although rappers, are usually POOR examples of what all rap is like. It does not even scratch the surface.

The definition of music is - "Vocal or instrumental sounds possessing a degree of melody, harmony, or rhythm." Which rap has, therefor, it is considered rap. Also, just because you don't like the genre does not mean that it isn't music. That's like someone going up to you and saying - "Sorry. Rock is not music. I just don't like it and I think it's horrible." Of course, that's not what I think. But it's just an example of what I think about the first 0:30 of your video.

Great Video! It's absolutely correct. Rap is terrible.
Especially rappers like Q-tip, Common Sense, Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, and especially Mos Def. All those guys ever rap about is selling drugs, slapping hoes, pimping hoes, fucking hoes, shooting niggas and how knowledge is useless. They should all be ashamed of themselves. All "singing" in rap is made to sound good in the studio, rap is by far the worst live main stream music there is, meaning it sounds terrible in person.

If your brain was atleast a centimeter big you would realize that those aren't stereotypes, because all the lyrics are about none of those. They are usually about war and have a metaphorical meaning. Or about something in their life. Unlike rap, where everything is about drugs sex money and that one whore with the tight vagina.

wow, I love metal and i feel ashamed to admit it now. I'm a hip hop head and it takes a lot of time and skill to make real hip hop. Have you ever tried DJing on any Pioneer turntables, it's very hard, I'm still learning. Listen to Glass-Eyedea & Abilities, its very emotional and the lyrics are quite deep.
