I remember playing this song for my choir, "The Followers of Christ". It was a blessing to all who heard it. The message is simple, but powerful. "We can make it, with Jesus on our side" Amen! Rest in peace, Timothy Wright, my brother in Christ. You and your presence is missed.
Now this is singing and ministering...Love it...I was very young when this came out but I'm so glad you posted this...WE NEED to believe that we can and we will make it!
One thing that we have to understand, Gospel music for a long time did not have much establishment as a genre, but it was people like Rev. Timothy Wright, Shirley Caesar etc. who were the catalysts to bring Gospel music to where it is now. The times have changed and God sends His Word differently from the way He did back then.....
I love this song, I will never forget this song, this song brings you through some hard and bad times. I remember my grandmother humming this song alot...I really miss this side of gospel
Myrna Summers is preaching & singing now. She just preached at our church down south here in the US this Sun. morn. and did a concert w/our choir this wkend.
Evangelist Myrna Summers is the Minister of Music at Reid Temple in Maryland . She is yet an awesome and anointed singer. I hope that she will record something soon. Her latest CD "Mountain Get out of My Way" is great. It can be ordered at her website or that of Reid Temple's. I believe that she also does concerts upon request.
This song will stand the test of time. Rev. Wright, we will never forget you. We know you in heaven just rejoicing! For we know We'll Gonna Make It To!!!!
One of the old ancient gospel inspirational songs back in the day. I'm 34 and remember hearing this song back around 87-88 at a Church convention. All I can remember is that the organ sounded so good and the choir was phenomenal. I remember a lot of people crying during this song. Now I can say that I truly understand the meaning of this song.
The devil was putting up a fight and i let him get the best of me. I was down and out i thought i wasnt going to make it but i believe and trust in him. things will work out fine. Please pray for me
That's true! I just feel that sometimes gospel strays from it's roots. I know that a lot of new artists are trying to add a R&B, pop feel to it so that it can appeal to the young crowd. I don't mind, I like some of it. But at the same time, from time to time, I like to hear some good ol' fashioned gospel. Even though I'm young at 24, maybe I'm too old school, LOL!
how about this, maybe its time to start new roots for a new generation. believe it or not maybe 40 years ago there had to be new roots for the generation that was ahead of you. and guess what 40 more years from now there will be new roots for a future generation. the only root is the message of the gospel not the presentation. presentations always have and always will change. even preaching has changed. cars change to accomadate today.
I agree that the only thing that matters is the message that is being presented, which is Jesus and that change does occur. But when I look at other styles of music such as Blues, Rock n' roll, country for examples, even though they update the sounds, you can still tell what it is. There are times when I don't know if I'm listening to Gospel or R&B. True, the lyrics talk of Jesus, but the sound confuses me. I don't know if I should give praise or get my groove on.
Don't feel bad, I love me some old school gospel as well. Some of this new stuff just don't connect well with me...the worship music does...but not this new hip hop stuff a few songs are ok though. I'm 21 by the way.
As matter of fact if you look at all of your albums before 1992 and after 1992, you will see a distinct trend. Using Commissioned or Hezekiah for example. All albums before 1992 everyone smiled. Happy to be saved and singing. After 1992 all of the smiles went away to look serious, mad or whatever the world trend was. Check it out for yourself.
Well, after all, you are speaking to the world. identifying with SPECIFIC issues as in the imagine me(kirk franklin) and never would have made it song for example and identifying with the joys of pressing through by the power of christ. look at the number of views on the never would have made it video( i doubt some of the viewers were saved but maybe will be. they are not only trying to make it to heaven they are trying to make it to tommorow through present situations
This recording was great and not just because I was a part of it. The choir was a mixture of different choirs in Memphis TN. The choir that I sang in - The Whitehaven District Choir and the late Dwight Turner (the first singer to do some of the adlib), Olanda Draper and the Associates, The Angelic Voices of Faith and Master Billy Rivers who was directing this song. James Johnson and The Johnson Ensemble and many more young and upcoming groups who were trying to get on the "wax"!
Wow, lots of choirs were there...representing Memphis. That's what we had to do back in the day. Come together to make a greater impact. I see David Bratton playing the organ.
Magnify Him... Magnify Him... Why isnt anyone posting Magnify Him!? All of these songs are good but we all kno that magnify him IS the best song from this album!!!
