Is this a good setup or can I go a little lower Alienware m18x - i7 2860qm 2.5ghz (3.6ghz turbo) 8mb cache/16gb dual channel ddr3 @ 1600mhz 4dimms/ dual 2gb gddr5 nvidia geforce gtx 580m sli/ 256gb ssd data 3gb/s / killer wireless n 1103 a/g/n 3×3 but its around $4,393 before disscount dis gonna b my 1st laptop so if u can customize it help me
@IeXploW With the integrated graphics ? The A8-3800 is better for gaming. It has the integrated 655D which is much more powerful then the i3's Intel HD graphics. If you were to add a dedicated graphics card then the i3-2100 would a better gaming CPU. Depends on what your looking to do.
gotta say when u had 140 subs u helped me with a video card and now im very interested in computers.. u dont really watch any of your videos because they dont tend to everyone. possibly create some kind of series? let me know in a private message if u have any ideas thatd be fun to talk about. but pretty much thanks!
Can you suggest a good laptop that will be able to run games on High (preferably) settings. This games would be like Skyrim, Modern Warfare 3, Need for Speed, etc. ? I would prefer to spend no more that 1200 or 1300. I would love some of your expertise. Thanks:)
@xXGGMTXx You can find the Acer ROG G53 or G74 series for around $1200 on sale. It comes with the i7-2630qm quad core and the GTX 560M graphics card. Both class 1 items and will run those games just great! Basically any laptop with a GTX 560M !
@xXGGMTXx What's the lappie your looking at ? It's faster then a GT 550M even with the crippled shaders, but just by a tidge. Is it the ddr3 version ?
Im looking for a laptop that would be able to play games such as Arma 3 and battlefield 3 on if possible high, but medium graphics is fine for less than $1400AUId prefer the laptop to be good at almost all things I dont want a specifically gaming laptop but a good all rounder.
@WestCoastPCbuilder I HAVE A QUESTION MY FRIEND!!,. I recently bought an ASUS notebook for 900$ in canada(happy to be canadian btw) with the following specs... INTEL CORE i7 2630 QM, nVIDIA geforce GT 540M 1 GB CUDA, 8 gb memory ddr3, 750 GB HDD, 15.6 LED screen 5400 rpm. With respect to my laptop specs, would you consider my laptop able to run newly released games for the next 4-5 years?? untill 2016 lets say.. cus im planning to keep it until then. ANY COMMENT IS APPRECIATED BRO(Y)
A 499$ Lenovo IdeaPad Z575 (12992AU) with a AMD AMU 3500 in it. I'd be recording video (fraps), editing video, rendering video, editing large size photos. and graphic design. If you could suggest a better solution in the 500-700 range that'd be appreciated.
i favorited/subbed nice channel. Whats better for hd video editing a nvidia 555m or a amd 6770m? also i think im gonna wait for the ivy bridge to get a new notebook think thats a good idea? also the asus ROG has a nvidia 560m but I heard its a gimped version is that card in the Asus rog any good?
@TheHaplessGamer Either card will be fine for video editing. If you're using CS5, you can utilize the GT 555M's CUDA techonlogy to render out projects in adobe premiere, and also have faster on the fly previewing .. where some cards may stutter at a high quality preview. Aside from that one program, either card. I haven't read/heard about a crippled GTX 560M. Ivy Bridge will be out in April, I don't know the pricing, it's not necessarily a huge processing jump.
@WestCoastPCbuilder thanks! are the 555m and 6770m equivilent cards what would you buy for gaming and video editing? and the 540m is a pretty bad card?, could it still do hd video editing in a program like cyberlink power director?
@TheHaplessGamer For video editing, I'd concentrate more on the CPU, since that will cut down your render times if you go for insane high quality, i7-2630qm with a GT 540M would be great. Better then an i5-2410M + GT 555M. 1/2 the wait time for huge files. If you can get an i7-2630qm + a GT 555M / 560M / 6770M ... all the better.
I like your video but I noticed that this video was posted on March 2011 do you do regular uploads of these sort of review videos because I would like to subscribe if you do.
@Hi2Kiwi I did this Guide right when the Sandy Bridge CPU's and soon to be A-series were hitting the shelves. Basically everything still stands in this video. I am waiting for the release of Intels Ivy Bridge mobile platform with the Intel HD 4000 graphics and AMD's Fusion line of Comal 7xxx series APU's. Then I'm going to talk more about battery life, SSD's, Ultrabooks, and spend more time making a professional video!!! I will update it soon, just waiting for a big shift.
@WestCoastPCbuilder Wow thanks for the help and the video Ill subscribe anyway just to make sure I don't miss anything I'm no good at building computers, nor do I have the knowledge to know exactly what I'm looking for thanks for the help buddy!
@animetrickerd There isn't a GPU via USB port. The USB port wouldn't be able to handle the data transfer. There is an external solution called ViDock.
@WestCoastPCbuilder Thank you for the reply bro. so this vidock. is it a download? or do I have to take my laptop apart and add it in? Im a noob about this! haha also I have a game. battlefield bad company 2. I can play it with a little leg. do you think this vidock would inprove my gaming a lot?
Hello, thank you for uploading this useful video. It really helps for those that are just beginning to take interest in computer specifics. I have one question though. My computer's video card runs on an Intel 4 Series Chipset Express, and I was wondering if the viDock solution would help upgrade my graphics? thanks man
@EvilbatX4545 ViDock really seems to be the only alternative other then a new laptop. They are thermally designed for their specific setup so upgrading a GPU is next to impossible and even if it were it's near impossible to find laptop GPU's. I believe ViDock can only run to an external monitor though ... haven't done much research on it though, but it will murder your integrated GFX.
@WestCoastPCbuilder Damn, I had a feeling that would be the case, guess I should have bought a gaming desktop instead. Oh well, thanks for the eye opener on graphics and for the reply, I'll keep researching. Peace man.
I'm pretty close to buying an HP Pavilion dv6t with Beats Audio and Blu-ray. Wondering if there's anything I need to look out for (such as any notable defects or common issues). I'm a university student upgrading from an old Pavilion dv6. I'm not much of a gamer, but mostly like to spend my time on the web, YouTube, play music and stream TV shows off the net kinda thing. Thanks man.
hello my friend , i have laptop and i wanna replace my ati 4350 512mb with ati 6770m . and i wanna ask you about that card (6770m) for laptop . do you have idea about how much the price of ati 6770m ??????
@mohammedfarooq007 you cant replace laptop video cards. they are very hard to source out and your laptop is made thermally for your particularly setup. You can look into an external video card solution called the ViDock.
@WestCoastPCbuilder thanks for reply . but i didn't tell you my laptop model , my laptop is hp probook 4520s . with dedicated graphics card (ati 4350) . if i can't replace graphics card as you said before then why is my graphics card made dedicated ? what's the Purpose of making dedicated video cards ? and what's the difference between dedicated & Integrated graphics ?
@MrRaymondking1 I'd stick with a 6620g and above if you can. Tomshardware has a review and the 6450 is able to handle it barely, low settings, 1280x1024. 6520g is less powerful so I am uncertain.
i have an ASUS u46e-bal5 and i wanted to know if i can hook an nvidia external graphics card or xf ati radeon graphics card onto it. they are both external cards. please respond, i really want to get one soon. there are no gaming ports on my laptop. i have i have an hdmi port, a few usb ports and a port that allows me to connect to a projector or monitor.
Hi iv been searching laptops this summer on ebay but i havent found the one right for me . I am searching for a laptop which can take GTA IV, saints row the third ultra or high good fps at 700-750euro . i want an i5 processor as i am scared of having overheating on an i7 processor . recommend any used new or refurbished laptops ? Thanks
I got a question.. is there really a big difference between GT 540m 1 GB on an i7 processor 6 GB ram and the GT 550/555 2 GB? considering that the GT 540m (1GB) can be overclocked. Because i've been reading the forums and some people say games like Crysis 2/ Metro 2033/ GTA 4 uses more than 1 GB from the GPU when played in maxed-out and 1920x1080 resolution.
@FrYLocK41 There's a few variants of the GT 555M. 2 versions with DDR3 have a lot more shaders and would easily be the difference of medium settings versus high. The GT 550M is just a higher clocked GT 540M. The 1Gb GT 555M DDR5 is the same shaders count but with DDR5 for a 15% boost. The GT 540M wouldn't be the best solution for 1920x1080. If you look at benchmarks of the 1gb 6950 (desktop card) vs. the 2gb version, no difference at 1920x1080. 2560x1600 difference!
@WestCoastPCbuilder I see, but what if I overclock the 540m? Wouldn't that give me a playable FPS on a 1920x1080/high settings? Or would that overheat and put the GPU in jeopardy? If that's the case, I'm guessing i'd just have to drop down to 1366x768 resolution to have a playable FPS in high settings with 540m
Are the result on the site you given accurate?Because I dont get them exactly,
Black ops on Ultra i get 20FPS, Mafia 2 on Ultra i get 38FPS,more than it is there.Battlefield 2 i get exactly like them, and DIRT3 i get about 40-50 FPS on ultra . You think i can do something to increase the power of my GPU?
I dont want to overclock it.And driver is the latest. What is the best thing about a graphic card? The pipelines, what they meean?I got 192, but core speed 675.
@westcoastpcbuilder great video.i'm deciding on a laptop for school.apps like 3dsmax/maya/zrush/digital painting/animation/video editing would be used.any recommendations?
@watsup39 Yep, It's still good if it's the 1gb DDR5 version. It's = to the GT 550M. As long as it's priced around other GT 550M machines it's not a rip off by any means. They really should call it something else though. There are now 4 variations of it !!!
@WestCoastPCbuilder@WestCoastPCbuilder mmmm im thinking of getting the i5 processor really cause thats all u need since u know how i7's make a alot noise...ok before i confirm, would u get that lenovo one(go to the y series and select the 2nd series one, wouldve got the 799 but the shipping seems to take a BUT LOAD of time....fricken month lol...) or this, basically a HP dv6-6170us. Has 6770 radeon i7 2630QM with 6 Gigs....go look on hp market
mmm im having some issues picking a laptop/notebook. Ok im kinda a gammer a little probably mostly to SCII but anyways, ok the lenovo Y570 with i5 processor, Nvidia 555m graphics and 4 GB, and GDDR3 or the HP pavilion dv6 with i7 turbo to 2.9 ghz, 6GB ram, GDDR5 and Radeon 6770m
so yea i'm also looking for a cheaper gaming laptop
somewhere between 400-700 bucks.
been looking through newegg a lot
a lot of cheap laptops with the nvidia gt 540m card, but all of those computers now come with the optimus technology which i hear doesnt work all the time....
i've also looked through some laptops with the amd radeon 6650m and 6550m and some of them are pretty cheap...
do u have any suggestions on which card i should be looking for and any recommendations on which laptop i get?
@L0LG047z The low clocked A-series laptops do turbo boost when only two cores are used. Your right though, the intel's are a better solution, but are usually slightly more expensive. I haven't read up on Optimus issues. A 6650M is a great card, it's very close to a GT 540M. You can't go wrong with either one. Low budget and battery life are very hard to find. You can purchase a secondary battery pack, or even a 9-cell , 12-cell batter later on for certain brands.
Any recommendations on a laptop which would allow for flawless gaming for mmorpgs like Guild Wars 2, Star Wars the old republic, and have the ability and space for storing music files and programs like guitar pro and for school, and itunes for my band and also for school studies? I would prefer to keep it under a $1400 range, the lower the better, i was thinking of getting an alienware m14x or an m17x, is this smart? Please let me know, thanks.
@SouLClap84 A6-3400M with the 6520G will cut through HD/BR movies like a hot knife through butter. The AMD APU A-Series score better in HVQ 2.0 benchmarks then the intel HD graphics. The Intel HD has an issue with running at 24fps so you may notice slight judder every 5 minutes (some people notice these things!). But the A6-3400M or A8-3500M will be more then enough for HD video. Throwing in an SSD or 7200rpm Scorpio will show a great improvement in overall desktop speed and program launching!
i got 2 laptop between my picks the Samsung NP305V5A-A04US: AMD A8-3510XM 6620G 1366x768 15.6" 6GB DDR3 ------------------------------------ ASUS G73JH-BST7 i7-740QM 5870M 1600x900 17.3" 6GB DDR3 what one can do higher FPS? also what one is a better value of my 800 dollar price limit?
Intel HD 3000 graphics under $700. Now I only use it for entertainment movies, music etc not gaming though. screen is hd but i was looking for more like it LCD type. can u tell me if there is better notebook for entertainment around $600 that has the best graphics.
@SouLClap84 You'd like a 1920x1080 screen ? 1600x900 is pretty good on a 17.3" display. I'll take a quick look around and see if I can find something less expensive and will do the job just as good if not better.
@SouLClap84 Dell has some good sales on for $600 17R laptop. If you goto newegg's laptop section, use their 'power' search, you can choose 17.3" monitors, there's plenty that are $500-$600 that will definitely be just as good for general use and media/HD video. A6-3400M with a 6520g is great for that. I can't seem to find a 1920x1080 screen on anything under $1000.
@SouLClap84 rite but i dun like dell. lenovo, hp, toshiba r better. lenovo G770 hve better features too. Now streaming movies nd music do i realli need i5 core or any downgrade core but with better graphics? tell me what type of proccesor nd the best graphic card i need to watch blueray quality movies. thanx
@SouLClap84 TOSHIBA Satellite L775D-S7330, HP Pavilion g7-1156nr are both great for HD streaming. Any recent Laptop will be capable of HD playback. i3-2310M, A6-3400M, i3-370M, even HD4250 and the E-350 with the 6310 can run that stuff.
What do you recommend? I will use it mainly for gaming. Will the HD 5870 beat the HD 6770 or are they at the same level of performance? And since the HD 6770 is the newer card, is it enough reason to choose it over the HD 5870? Thanks guys.
@jbox123456 The MSI is much stronger. The HD5870 is about 40% stronger then the 6770. CPU's are quite close. 1920x1080 on the MSI as well. Are they priced similarly ?
@WestCoastPCbuilder Hi Thanks for the reply. Actually, the MSI only has 1366x768 screen as well. Same with the Dv6. The price for the MSI is about $1000 while that for the HP dv6-6134tx is $800. There is another one, an HP dv6-6135tx also with 1 GB 6770M but it has a core i7-2630qm. Thanks

@orbLantern Most big online outlets will have some GTX 570M notebooks. If you'd like higher, you can check out clevo/sager websites and potentially get a GTX 485M, GTX 580M, 6990M. Clevo makes them, sager just rebrands them.
@orbLantern get the asus n55 or n53.. 15.6" make sure it has the GT 555m (2GB graphics chip) and the bluray and bluetooth enabled as well. It's a complete laptop, portable, powerful, runs demanding games on high and it has a killer sound system.
what is the latest version of garageband my mac os x 10.4.11 is compatible with? I am willing to buy, delete or download other things. processor: 2 Ghz Intel Core Duo
Would you recommend Lenovo Z575 with A4-3300M and dedicated HD 6650M for medium gaming (Diablo 3, l4d2, probably SW TOR) and office work? Or maybe pay a bit more the same Lenovo with A6-3400M? Those graphics get nice results in tests but I'm afraid a bit about processors, they seem to be much slower than i3.
@SoulMist17 Big difference. That's going to be the difference between medium settings on the GT 540M and high settings on the 6750M in many instances. 6750M is about 30% stronger based on the 3DMark Vantage bench.
awwwwwwwwww crap so your saying that the gt 555m in my Y570 has SIGNIFICANTLY lower performance than the gt 555m with DDR3? Then how much faster is the gt555m in my Y570 than a gt 550m?
@THUGLIFE6621 The 1gb DDR5 GT 555M only has 96 vertex shaders. The 1.5gb and 2gb DDR3 versions have 144 vertex shaders. Shaders first. It also has much less Geometry and Pixel shaders. The 1gb GT 555M is just a GT 540M with DDR5 memory which adds about a 10-15% boost.

which laptops have high space, good prossecor and has a video card good enough to play call of duty or 2k12 on medium settings. anyone have any recommndations(range is 900-1300)
@AznAlanizbeast I like the style of the Dell. But Performance wise, both at $1300. The Asus has a 15.6" screen, it's 1920x1080, has a quad core vs dual core and also a stronger video card. 2-year warranty, 1-year accidental, 1-year battery pack. You can just PM me if you need some more help.
i am looking to buy a new laptop and i like to play games, mainly fps's like bf3 on medium - high settings and i was wondering if you could reccommend any. this is the one i am currently looking at but not sure if it will get the job done. thanks.
@misdekpkac The 6490M video card will play BF3 on Low settings. It's quite a demanding game. Even at the 1366x768 resolution of most laptop vs 1920x1080 on most new desktops, it's still going to take down any card that's not in the top half of class 2 and above.
@MrOggo123 I'd go with the Dell XPS, just because it has a 7200rpm hard drive. From what I am reading the 3gb GT 555M is the one with 144 shaders and not the one with 96 shaders, so that competes directly with the 6770M. HP has a checkered past.
This is the laptop that im talking about, the HP - Pavilion Laptop / AMD A-Series Processor / 15.6" Display / 6GB Memory / 640GB Hard Drive....what do you think?
Hi man i need your advice, i usually edit videos for weedings, parties, any kind of social events and i would like to know if the AMD A-Series Processor is good for this
@omarvalle81 Depends on what your budget is. The A6-3400M seems to be the best for under $600. You may be able to find one with a discrete 6470M graphics cards. It will be able to edit video in programs like Sony Vegas , Windows Movie Maker just fine.
@urbinax It's the going price for that laptop. It should play most games at low/med settings. Some games it may not play unless you can go 800x600 such as The Witcher 2, BF3, Metro2033.
@WestCoastPCbuilder do you think its a good chooice for a laptop? i have heard about laptops HP that dont event last a year because the gpus burn, so i think toshiba its better
Hello, question to anyone who can help. I'm trying to make a decision on whether the ASUS G53SW-XT1 laptop will be good enough to play the games I want on High Res. I plan to game on games like Minecraft, Guild Wars 2, and Battlefield 3.
Battlefield question as well, i have no clue about specs AT ALL but I've just ordered a laptop with a AMD Radeon HD 6490M (1 GB GDDR5 card in it, will this run BF3 or will it fail me ?
and how does it do at other games such as World of Warcraft or Aion ?
@TheatreOBlackRomance Battlefield doesn't need good hardware !? Minimum Requirements just came out and they are one of the highest to date. This is BF3, not BF2 !!! It's going to be very demanding, but the 6490M should run on Low settings. 1 more week until the Beta is released, you should see a flood of benchmarks. WoW will run just fine, if Aion is on the same level as WoW, then it will run fine as well.
I know you've been swamped but I have an important question. I'm buying my laptop gaming laptop within the next day. I'm trying to decide between the Sager NP5160 and the Sager NP5165. The only difference is the 5160 has a GT540M 1GB Graphics car, and the NP5165 has a 2GB GT555m. Obviously the GT555m is better, but its a bit pricey. It should be 925$ with 6GB RAM and the 540m laptop is 830$. Does it really make a difference playing BBC2, GW2, The Witcher? Which should I get?
@Sagora123 NP5165 also has a 1920x1080 screen versus 1600x900. Not a big deal, some people like it though. The graphics card will be the difference between playing games on High vs Med.
@ChibiNinjax002 I'd speculate about 40fps at medium settings at 1366x768. It's around a desktop GT 430 / 5570 which can just barely manage high on BC2, BF3 should be slightly more demanding, so one notch down. I don't know about 32 v 32 battles though, that might cause some big FPS drops in certain areas.
@WestCoastPCbuilder Dam Im already getting around 40fps in 16 v 16 on BC2 and that is if there isnt some random explosion right in front of me or lotta dust and dirt floating in air.
I have a 15.6in AMD Phenom ll X4 AMD 6650m 8gb memory 500gb.(not clocked)
I am thinking to buy ACER 7750G Gamer's Evolution / 17,3'' / i5-2410M / AMD Radeon HD6850M 1GB / 6GB / 750GB. Price is 2000 LT it's about $770. This laptop is good for gaming, or i can buy beter with the same price? And who is beter gt 555m or amd radeon hd 6850m? Thanks.

wich one is better for gaming. AMD A-series A8-3800 or Intel® Core™ i3
IeXploW 1 week ago
@IeXploW With the integrated graphics ? The A8-3800 is better for gaming. It has the integrated 655D which is much more powerful then the i3's Intel HD graphics. If you were to add a dedicated graphics card then the i3-2100 would a better gaming CPU. Depends on what your looking to do.

@JoeWithTheGlasses For the $600-$700 range you can grab an i5-2410M or i5-2430M with a GT 540M, that would murder an A-3500M APU.

@WestCoastPCbuilder Help please!
I heard that Intel HD 3000 isn't good for gaming, is that true?
And 2nd could you please find me a laptop with a graphics card that can run minecraft in med or high with little or no lag?
iknowyoubutyoudont 1 month ago
@iknowyoubutyoudont Intel HD 3000 isn't bad IF it was integrated.
Integrated means it has to take your ram when gaming and stuff (so it's not 100% a gaming card)
Hp pavilion dv6tse with 8gb ram and amd radeon 7470m and i5 processor 2.4ghz is decent for 649.99 with a coupon

i favorited/subbed nice channel. Whats better for hd video editing a nvidia 555m or a amd 6770m? also i think im gonna wait for the ivy bridge to get a new notebook think thats a good idea? also the asus ROG has a nvidia 560m but I heard its a gimped version is that card in the Asus rog any good?
TheHaplessGamer 1 month ago
@TheHaplessGamer Either card will be fine for video editing. If you're using CS5, you can utilize the GT 555M's CUDA techonlogy to render out projects in adobe premiere, and also have faster on the fly previewing .. where some cards may stutter at a high quality preview. Aside from that one program, either card. I haven't read/heard about a crippled GTX 560M. Ivy Bridge will be out in April, I don't know the pricing, it's not necessarily a huge processing jump.
WestCoastPCbuilder 1 month ago
@WestCoastPCbuilder thanks! are the 555m and 6770m equivilent cards what would you buy for gaming and video editing? and the 540m is a pretty bad card?, could it still do hd video editing in a program like cyberlink power director?
TheHaplessGamer 1 month ago
@TheHaplessGamer For video editing, I'd concentrate more on the CPU, since that will cut down your render times if you go for insane high quality, i7-2630qm with a GT 540M would be great. Better then an i5-2410M + GT 555M. 1/2 the wait time for huge files. If you can get an i7-2630qm + a GT 555M / 560M / 6770M ... all the better.

Hello, thank you for uploading this useful video. It really helps for those that are just beginning to take interest in computer specifics. I have one question though. My computer's video card runs on an Intel 4 Series Chipset Express, and I was wondering if the viDock solution would help upgrade my graphics? thanks man
EvilbatX4545 1 month ago
@EvilbatX4545 ViDock really seems to be the only alternative other then a new laptop. They are thermally designed for their specific setup so upgrading a GPU is next to impossible and even if it were it's near impossible to find laptop GPU's. I believe ViDock can only run to an external monitor though ... haven't done much research on it though, but it will murder your integrated GFX.

@MrRaymondking1 I'd stick with a 6620g and above if you can. Tomshardware has a review and the 6450 is able to handle it barely, low settings, 1280x1024. 6520g is less powerful so I am uncertain.

@WestCoastPCbuilder I foun the 1.5 gb gtx 460m , quad core , 8gb ram
they should take gta iv ultra , and maybe crysis 2 ultra , possibly smooth ? will they overheat ?
Clubmrbean 2 months ago
I got a question.. is there really a big difference between GT 540m 1 GB on an i7 processor 6 GB ram and the GT 550/555 2 GB? considering that the GT 540m (1GB) can be overclocked. Because i've been reading the forums and some people say games like Crysis 2/ Metro 2033/ GTA 4 uses more than 1 GB from the GPU when played in maxed-out and 1920x1080 resolution.
FrYLocK41 2 months ago
@FrYLocK41 There's a few variants of the GT 555M. 2 versions with DDR3 have a lot more shaders and would easily be the difference of medium settings versus high. The GT 550M is just a higher clocked GT 540M. The 1Gb GT 555M DDR5 is the same shaders count but with DDR5 for a 15% boost. The GT 540M wouldn't be the best solution for 1920x1080. If you look at benchmarks of the 1gb 6950 (desktop card) vs. the 2gb version, no difference at 1920x1080. 2560x1600 difference!
WestCoastPCbuilder 2 months ago
@WestCoastPCbuilder I see, but what if I overclock the 540m? Wouldn't that give me a playable FPS on a 1920x1080/high settings? Or would that overheat and put the GPU in jeopardy? If that's the case, I'm guessing i'd just have to drop down to 1366x768 resolution to have a playable FPS in high settings with 540m

watsup39 2 months ago
@watsup39 Yep, It's still good if it's the 1gb DDR5 version. It's = to the GT 550M. As long as it's priced around other GT 550M machines it's not a rip off by any means. They really should call it something else though. There are now 4 variations of it !!!

i've also looked through some laptops with the amd radeon 6650m and 6550m and some of them are pretty cheap...
do u have any suggestions on which card i should be looking for and any recommendations on which laptop i get?
L0LG047z 2 months ago
@L0LG047z The low clocked A-series laptops do turbo boost when only two cores are used. Your right though, the intel's are a better solution, but are usually slightly more expensive. I haven't read up on Optimus issues. A 6650M is a great card, it's very close to a GT 540M. You can't go wrong with either one. Low budget and battery life are very hard to find. You can purchase a secondary battery pack, or even a 9-cell , 12-cell batter later on for certain brands.
WestCoastPCbuilder 2 months ago
@WestCoastPCbuilder battery life isn't important, but it's hard to find a amd radeon 6650m or a 6550m with a core i5 processor

SouLClap84 3 months ago
@SouLClap84 A6-3400M with the 6520G will cut through HD/BR movies like a hot knife through butter. The AMD APU A-Series score better in HVQ 2.0 benchmarks then the intel HD graphics. The Intel HD has an issue with running at 24fps so you may notice slight judder every 5 minutes (some people notice these things!). But the A6-3400M or A8-3500M will be more then enough for HD video. Throwing in an SSD or 7200rpm Scorpio will show a great improvement in overall desktop speed and program launching!

@SouLClap84 You'd like a 1920x1080 screen ? 1600x900 is pretty good on a 17.3" display. I'll take a quick look around and see if I can find something less expensive and will do the job just as good if not better.
WestCoastPCbuilder 3 months ago
@SouLClap84 Dell has some good sales on for $600 17R laptop. If you goto newegg's laptop section, use their 'power' search, you can choose 17.3" monitors, there's plenty that are $500-$600 that will definitely be just as good for general use and media/HD video. A6-3400M with a 6520g is great for that. I can't seem to find a 1920x1080 screen on anything under $1000.

Hi. Which is better between this two?
HP Pavilion dv6-6134tx with these specs:
-Intel Core i5-2410M
-ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6770 1 GB GDDR5
MSI GX660x-i5285+ with these specs:
-Intel Core i5-520M
-ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 1 GB GDDR5
What do you recommend? I will use it mainly for gaming. Will the HD 5870 beat the HD 6770 or are they at the same level of performance? And since the HD 6770 is the newer card, is it enough reason to choose it over the HD 5870? Thanks guys.
jbox123456 3 months ago
@jbox123456 The MSI is much stronger. The HD5870 is about 40% stronger then the 6770. CPU's are quite close. 1920x1080 on the MSI as well. Are they priced similarly ?

how does the 6750m compare to the 540m in your opinion? Thanks
SoulMist17 4 months ago
@SoulMist17 Big difference. That's going to be the difference between medium settings on the GT 540M and high settings on the 6750M in many instances. 6750M is about 30% stronger based on the 3DMark Vantage bench.

damianwilson 4 months ago
@damianwilson seems to be about 10% stronger then a GT 550M due to it's DDR5 memory.

the gt555 in the y570 has 1gb of gddr5 thats more powerful than ddr3 with 2gb.

AznAlanizbeast 4 months ago
@AznAlanizbeast Asus G53. i7-2630qm + GTX 560M , 750gb HD. Dual HD bays, so you can potentially add a second HD or an SSD boot drive.
WestCoastPCbuilder 4 months ago
@WestCoastPCbuilder I was wondering, is anything like that and cheaper. And, is that laptop u reccomended better than the m14x?
AznAlanizbeast 4 months ago
@AznAlanizbeast I like the style of the Dell. But Performance wise, both at $1300. The Asus has a 15.6" screen, it's 1920x1080, has a quad core vs dual core and also a stronger video card. 2-year warranty, 1-year accidental, 1-year battery pack. You can just PM me if you need some more help.

i am looking to buy a new laptop and i like to play games, mainly fps's like bf3 on medium - high settings and i was wondering if you could reccommend any. this is the one i am currently looking at but not sure if it will get the job done. thanks.
Acer Aspire AS7551G-7606 Notebook
misdekpkac 4 months ago
@misdekpkac The 6490M video card will play BF3 on Low settings. It's quite a demanding game. Even at the 1366x768 resolution of most laptop vs 1920x1080 on most new desktops, it's still going to take down any card that's not in the top half of class 2 and above.

@WestCoastPCbuilder thank you very much for the quick response! I looked into it and as you said, it looks like it wont handle it. thanks again!

Should i get HP DV7 with HD 6770m or Dell XPS 17 with 555m 3GB?
MrOggo123 4 months ago
@MrOggo123 I'd go with the Dell XPS, just because it has a 7200rpm hard drive. From what I am reading the 3gb GT 555M is the one with 144 shaders and not the one with 96 shaders, so that competes directly with the 6770M. HP has a checkered past.

This is the laptop that im talking about, the HP - Pavilion Laptop / AMD A-Series Processor / 15.6" Display / 6GB Memory / 640GB Hard Drive....what do you think?
omarvalle81 5 months ago
Hi man i need your advice, i usually edit videos for weedings, parties, any kind of social events and i would like to know if the AMD A-Series Processor is good for this
omarvalle81 5 months ago
@omarvalle81 Depends on what your budget is. The A6-3400M seems to be the best for under $600. You may be able to find one with a discrete 6470M graphics cards. It will be able to edit video in programs like Sony Vegas , Windows Movie Maker just fine.

can you help me out, i dont know wich choose a toshiba quad core with 6520G or 6520M
urbinax 5 months ago
@urbinax They're both the same thing! What's your budget ? Are you looking for a gaming laptop or just an HD video laptop ?
WestCoastPCbuilder 5 months ago
@WestCoastPCbuilder thanks for reply, im actually looking for a laptop with excellent performance, with gaming has second option
so i choosed a Toshiba Satellite L745D-S4230 14.0-Inch LED Laptop
AMD Quad-Core A6-3400M Accelerated 2.3 GHz, 4MB Cache Processor
Configured with 4GB DDR3 1333MHz (max 8GB)
640GB
AMD Radeon HD 6520M
gaming its not an important factor to me because i have a gaming desktop but it would be nice if this one would run most games
price: $529.99
urbinax 5 months ago
@WestCoastPCbuilder so, opinions about the laptop i told you?
urbinax 5 months ago
@urbinax It's the going price for that laptop. It should play most games at low/med settings. Some games it may not play unless you can go 800x600 such as The Witcher 2, BF3, Metro2033.
WestCoastPCbuilder 5 months ago
@WestCoastPCbuilder do you think its a good chooice for a laptop? i have heard about laptops HP that dont event last a year because the gpus burn, so i think toshiba its better

Hello, question to anyone who can help. I'm trying to make a decision on whether the ASUS G53SW-XT1 laptop will be good enough to play the games I want on High Res. I plan to game on games like Minecraft, Guild Wars 2, and Battlefield 3.
deathangelmuffin 5 months ago
@deathangelmuffin Yep. Seems like a great deal. $1050 currently on sale. Strongest Laptop at that price.

TheatreOBlackRomance 5 months ago
@TheatreOBlackRomance amd cup isn't now good at all !! :)

MyTutorialFilms 5 months ago
@TheatreOBlackRomance but it will run the game for sure ! cause battlefield doesn't have need a very good hardware :)
MyTutorialFilms 5 months ago
@MyTutorialFilms My CPU is an i7 2630QM 2Ghz, no amd, is that fine then ?
TheatreOBlackRomance 5 months ago
@TheatreOBlackRomance yeah sure u have an amazing hardware !!!!! u can play any game with high res ....
i have i5 core intel and i can play any game :)))) of course u can do games much much better then mine ;)
good that u didn't get amd ..cause amd totally is wasting ur money :)
MyTutorialFilms 5 months ago

Sagora123 5 months ago
@Sagora123 NP5165 also has a 1920x1080 screen versus 1600x900. Not a big deal, some people like it though. The graphics card will be the difference between playing games on High vs Med.
WestCoastPCbuilder 5 months ago
Battlefield 3 question here.
AMD 6650m
Can it run?
What do you think average FPS would be?
ChibiNinjax002 5 months ago
@ChibiNinjax002 I'd speculate about 40fps at medium settings at 1366x768. It's around a desktop GT 430 / 5570 which can just barely manage high on BC2, BF3 should be slightly more demanding, so one notch down. I don't know about 32 v 32 battles though, that might cause some big FPS drops in certain areas.
WestCoastPCbuilder 5 months ago
@WestCoastPCbuilder Dam Im already getting around 40fps in 16 v 16 on BC2 and that is if there isnt some random explosion right in front of me or lotta dust and dirt floating in air.
I have a 15.6in AMD Phenom ll X4 AMD 6650m 8gb memory 500gb.(not clocked)
ChibiNinjax002 5 months ago
@ChibiNinjax002 Oh and i put everything on medium setting with x4 or x2 anti aliasing
