I test drove one of these back in the day and it was a blast to drive, It was out of my price range at that time.. I ended up getting a silver 1989 GS which didn't have the turbo,4ws or 4wd. It did have alot of the good stuff on it ,like air suspension ,5 speed, steering setting for normal and sport and a strong inline 4. These cars were BULLET PROOF! The only major thing I had, to do to it was change the timing belt. 2001 i got t-boned in it and was totaled out with over 100.000 on it.

I can tell this VR4 has the active center diff AWD, every time the driver lifts off the throttle in a sharp turn the car draft's, a key rally feature that the US spec VR4 lacks.
im looking at a 91 vr4 to buy...it has around 200k. Havent driven it yet but it looks damn good. good paing with wax job and some prima rims...i htink there prima...But given that it was properly maintained what usually goes out the most on the vr4's. Im knowledgeable with engines and trannies...but not with 4wd systems or ricers.what are the bad noises to listen for?I was surprised when I learned they were the stallions that they are. No it has the 4G63 in its original orientation. Same as Eclipse or an EVO I-III actually it was the drivetrain of this car they used to creat the EVO I after they noticed the Galant was to big for use in the rallyes. Same with Subaru the changed from the Legacy to the Impreza.

Its true, this car really is the mother of all EVOs. I believe its first introduced way back in 1989, and then followed by the 1st evolution with the same 2.0 liter turbocharged 4G63 engine & AWD. Succeeding Galant VR-4s used v6s and twin turboes which can no longer to be compared to evo traditions.
a dsm could never be anywhere near as awesome as the galant vr4 was. the vr4 was a rally legend while the dsm is good for nothing but 1/4 mile and highway runs.
stock standard. thats the first JDM model. pre facelift. facelift had corner indicaters beside the headlights, and projector foglights in the bumper. tail lights were also changed in the facelift, and had the indicaters below the brake lights. also different wheels. the US and Australian model's had front and rear bumpers that protruded out more than the JDM ones.
used to own a gray import one.. cool car, is a real sleeper.. Would have been a real weapon is it was a bit lighter and had stronger transfer case. Also exhaust manifold was prone to cracking.

Its true, this car really is the mother of all EVOs. I believe its first introduced way back in 1989, and then followed by the 1st evolution with the same 2.0 liter turbocharged 4G63 engine & AWD. Succeeding Galant VR-4s used v6s and twin turboes which can no longer to be compared to evo traditions.

a dsm could never be anywhere near as awesome as the galant vr4 was. the vr4 was a rally legend while the dsm is good for nothing but 1/4 mile and highway runs.

The evo was born because of the galant vr4. So ya, I'd call it an Evo 0 too. :P Not like the Evo 8 I own, but still of the same heritage. :)

stock standard. thats the first JDM model. pre facelift. facelift had corner indicaters beside the headlights, and projector foglights in the bumper. tail lights were also changed in the facelift, and had the indicaters below the brake lights. also different wheels. the US and Australian model's had front and rear bumpers that protruded out more than the JDM ones.

used to own a gray import one.. cool car, is a real sleeper.. Would have been a real weapon is it was a bit lighter and had stronger transfer case. Also exhaust manifold was prone to cracking.
