The reason hes using a mac is because macs are already built for music and do not require customization where a PC would. Yes a PC could operate at a higher rate because of the parts inside of the mac that limit it, where as its easier to build a PC from scratch and have better parts, but if he doesn't not need it then the mac is fine. @DashRantic or you know buy separate components for a computer and build it yourself, this will save money instead of going into an apple store to buy an overpriced PC or Laptop. Apple ask way too much for their products, yes they may be easy to use and shiny but really you can get a computer built for the same amount of money if not less which could in turn do just about the same as a mac.

In a pinch where funds are limited, knowledge is limited and licensed operating systems are being a broken pain in the ass, which Microsoft has a tendency of throwing people into, Ubuntu is an easy solution. Convenience being the key word, even if it's not the best written. It's a when-windows-fails-and-you're-­broke-and-techretarded failsafe. Linux is all you need if you know how to work it, but that's rare these days.

@shadowgrinch It's the same everywhere else. What alternative do you suggest? Even if you build a custom rig, you're still gonna be using parts most likely assembled under sweatshop conditions. Unless you're aware of any PC parts manufacturers that union labor (seriously, I'd like to know myself). And if we're talking software, Microsoft is definitely no better. Even Linux is riddled with corporate influences. There's really no escaping it.
