  • thank you!!!!!

  • You pull me of the hot water...

Thanksss ..been sitting in a rut.

You light up my musical life... hahaha serious.

  • This is so me. Running scales, trying to make them sound like a riff. I needed this exact lesson. Please keep posting lessons, Mike.

Your musical attitude is exactly like mine. I play sax, bluegrass banjo, and acoustic guitar, all in several styles of music and I don't want or have time for all the deep knowledge of what makes it all tick. I just love to play MUSIC! Great job, bud.

  • I thought this lesson was really helpful. My ability to build licks sucked. I think this will help me get better. Thanks.

  • Thanks so much for posting this lesson! Very good ideas and very well presented.

    Rick

  • Thanks for taking the time to make this vid!!! I've been running through scales forever and never really put together a good solo....Just like you said in the lesson it sounded to much like I was just running scales. I'll be playing the four notes to see what I can come up with!

  • yeah, try to do a lot with a little. It focuses your attention at making the scale notes more musical.

When you start out, it always sounds like you are just running scales, so you are on the right track.

  • very cool. i always knew its good to repeat notes, juts never thought to limit myself to 4 or so. useful, thx a lot.

  • it might be the single one most important thing in learning to phrase solo's.

  • Mike, don't feel you need to respond to people who have such a negative perspective. Know that many of us watch your lessons and are grateful for your efforts. Please continue posting lessons and thank you for taking the time.

  • Thanks :)

  • Thanks for the vid. You have some interesting ideas which ill have to try out. =)

  • I never claimed to be the master of anything. I'm only hoping to share what I do know the best I can.

Maybe you should check yourself as well. Maybe you are equally lacking patience.

  • Another note: Giving lessons on youtube is not as personal as in real life and you can't go at the learners pace and get their feedback, and check comprehension, so that could be some of your frustration.

No reason to be so rude though to someone who is giving you something for free. Don't bite the hand that feeds.

  • guess the harmony has finally fallen appart? haha i love those old guitars i have a few and no modern guitars come close to them.

  • Hey...what the...where's the wedding band?

    Congrats!!!

  • ha ha. I left it in a motel 6 shower on my honeymoon. long gone. I need to buy a new one.

  • Congratulations on getting married!

Great lesson, been practising the minor pentatonic scale now for a few weeks.

This will be a another great step in my development!

    Thanx!

  • Thanks. Sersiosly get a jam track. You can find free ones on the internet, and then practice soloing over it with your minor pentatonic shapes. Just make sure you limit yourself to a few notes as first, or else you'll just get good at "running Scales" over music instead of actually soloing with musical ideas and phrases. Does that make sense? Good luck and go for it.
