It's sad that Datsyuk is of a dying breed now. He's one of the last few remaining Russian NHLers that grew up through the USSR system. The most recent and prolific Soviet NHLers are Datsyuk, Fedorov, Mogilny, Kovalev, Yashin, and Bure. These guys played hockey for the Soviet Army so their training regiments were ridiculous compared to today. That's why it'll be more rare to see players of their skill to come out of Russia nowadays. Sure there will still be some, but def. not as many.

As a Canucks fan, I have to say Datsyuk is the best all-around player in the league and this was the video that made him one of my favourite players (right with Forsberg and Naslund) almost 6 years ago. Red Wings fans are lucky to have this guy.
I'm from Pittsburgh so I'm a huge Penguins fan, but I have to say, I have a lot of respect for the Red Wings. Great organization, from the top ownership to the players and staff. What else can you say, they're perennial winners. Also, Pavel Datsyuk is my favorite non-Penguin player in the NHL too. He's got that skill that the great ones had, plus he's got multiple rings.

Just youtubin Pavel Datsyuk after that goal he scored last night against the Sharks...TBH I think the goal he scored last night blows all of these out of the water. Skating on the right side he backhands a shot over the goalie's shoulder and hits just under the top right crossbars...totally inhuman.

Datsyuk is skillfull but not as skillfull as Kovalchuk was in his prime...Datsyuk is smarter and more creative but he doesn't have as soft hands like Kovy used to or his feathery rocket speed..iwsr21 check out Kovy's top 10 and say to me with a straight face which are more impressive??I used to be a super talent,i know about stick handling..Also you can see Pavel has to grap the stick low so that he can control the puck better or more easily..

Datsyuk isn't overshadowed in Hockeytown. That's all that matters to us. You can have Crysby, Ovy, and all the rest. You might want to check the stats since the early 90's. Dynasty. No other team has dominated since then like the Wings.

@price19721 I never get tired of hearing Red Wings fans crow about how great they are. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing but respect for the team - the Euro Twins are almost peerless, Lidstrom's the best defenseman in the game today and Yzerman was a god - but the fans? You guys could stand to dial back on your ego a little. Yeah, the Wings win a lot. And you know what? The players aren't dicks about it. The fans who do nothing but show up in the building could stand to follow their example.

@gravano2 i agree with the first party but what about lindstrom one of the best players of all time, has more playoff goals then any other defenseman in the history of NHL, zeterberg who is incredible too, probably the best supporting player in the league today, draper who has been amung the top players for over a decade? the wings are a great overall team... not just being carried
