I go find her wood. It depends on how rotten it is if she tears it up. sometimes I can recycle them by leaving ones she lost interest outside for awhile.
Redcot..if i ever see you in the street i would do the same to you!!
Cant stand people who are cruel to animals and ANYBODY that is...IS NOT WORTH KNOWING.
I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THIS....ANYONE THAT IS CRUEL TO ANIMALS AND HAS A TOTAL DISREGARD FOR THEM..IS CRUEL TO HUMAN BEINGS..THEY HAVE NO RESPECT FOR ANY LIVING THING.
Did you bring that log in the house. Also what is it filled with because I think you wouldn't put ants in it if you put it in your house. But first is that in your house?
Yes it's in the house but is a converted garage. There is no real danger if a few ants do get loose in the house. You need the breeders to start a colony so they can't breed and invade. You also need to have a problem already because they only burrow into rotten wood. Termites are even less of a concern as they die quickly if they move from their moist rotten wood or earthly homes.
I'm not sure what was in that one if anything. She will lick out the bug bust too.
I always wondered. Is her nose really sturdy? I know that the armadillos around here dig up and raid fire ant nests, and South America has some really vicious ants (well, that's where fire ants came from, after all), but armadillos are pretty well protected. How do tams cope with mean ants?
i read the FAQ you made :D its an awesome read. i want to learn alot more about them. as im on the path of becoming a vet i think this could be the animal for me. ill keep on doing research and see what i can find.
Thank you. If you are serious in wanting one someday you should join my group. XenarthraKeepers on Yahoo groups. It tends to be slow but good info does get shared, like the recent discussion on bottle feeding babies.
I love this video, and I absolutely love animals. Thanks for posting this video made my day.

How long does that log last?
Do you have to go and find the wood or does someone deliver them to you?

The tip of their nose is soft and moist but the whole head/snout is bone. You can google tamandua skull and see how that is.
They do eat fire ants but will eat quickly amd leave before the attack on them gets to bad.

does it think ants are in it?

Yes I think so or termites. They also will lick up the termite/ant dust out of the holes. Ant poop is probiotics for anteaters.
