I'm from Germany and in the sixtees I used to play bass in a band. Every band around here played this song. So we did also. Sometimes I wish I could go back to the time of rock 'n roll!
1 of my favorite songs, remember as a 10 or 12 yr old kid, had a little drum set, practiced this all the time, then older brother came home and did school theme, let's go, lost me from that point on, and I hate hin for that LOL
This song was recorded just up the street from the first house I ever lived in. I kid you all not, it was recorded in a town Called Rancho Cucamonga on the street corner of Archibald and Haven where a flower shop called "Archibald flowers" now exists. It happened before I lived near there though.
I would like to inform you guys that your music has inspired bands such as Beach Fossils, Girls Names, Real Estate, Ducktails, and Surfer Blood. thank you so much.
I used to play this song every morning on the way to work - at the Post office. I was the fastest worker on record! I could get my route sorted, delivered and be BACK before the next one left. I worked to this pace all day, every day. It was AWESOME!
few days ago played this song on acoustic guitar for my friends and they liked it so much, they were actually dancing and laughing, and I'm tellin' ya, this song has some crazy energy in it...
My school band did a rendition of this and it, I have to admit, was pretty cool. I'm on the set and my friend Zach is as well and we have a solo in the middle. If you want to check it out go to my page. If you like it then feel free to comment, subscribe, and rate.
@Berengier817 Ditto, yay for Cracked. Can't help but smile, when I see these guys now, and think of how it said when it was recorded they had an "average age of 15" and just slapped it together to fill the B side of a record. Boggles, huh?
Absolutely fantastic!!!!! I was a teenager in the 60's and this was one of the best instrumentals of the time. The full version of Surfer Joe is also great!!!!
Whenever I hear this song, I remember the days I spent as a kid watching Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez running, with the Babe Ruth signed baseball, away from "The Beast" in the movie, "The Sandlot". It's funny how music can help you to hold onto childhood memories.
not sure how hard this is to play. but i allways said if you can play this then your a good drummer. ppl i talked to have daid you get tired by the end of it.
We have to bring back song like this im pretty young and i know im the only one in school who lisen to this music and i geat crap for it all teh time all i say is this music is music the new rap is just mixed up and terrible
i play this on drum's its fun and its great to play the beat but ask any drummer that plays this after the song is over your taking some deep breath's it's the only song i know that does this to you ..even other fast beat songs don't where me out but this does i guess thats why they call this song wipe out cause it wipes you out lol
all I can say is when I go to a club that has a live band I judge their playing by whether or not they can play wipe out! I have loved this song since I was about 6 yrs old (back in the 60s)
an awesome song and what so good as well i go to air cadets and we have a band and we play this with drums (snare's and bass) and glock's and it sounds awesome we've even won a competition just using this song :)
We never really got to hear much surf music in Chicago so I got burned out on

@nixjag1 Excellent post. Hit City 64 is a great album. Pay close attention to Scatter Shield and Scratch. Excellent songs. We still perform Scatter Shield these days.
@nixjag1 Bitchin you sound like a guy from california what the hell kind of guitars are they using 0:26 a fender jazz master on the album cover it was a stratocaster
So GLAD to see the Original Guys still out Playing... these guys didn't get their Due Credit... most people think the Ventures did this song --- I think in all likelyhood, that when this song first came out, the guys who would become "the Ventures", probably looked at each other and said... "That's what Our Band should sound like."... and they went on to make far more money than these guys, playing this Surfaris song, and lots like it... These guys are Great!
I was at this party but the music didnt work for some reason. So everybody sat quietly, and then a fender caught my eye.I took it and started playing this.It wasnt as good as it would be with the drums but ppl started dancing and all was cool.
I recall some kids in class at school pounding out the drum part on their desk, trying to anyway. One kid was quite good at it. The teacher demanding a stop to it.
Well, there can only be ONE original in THIS group! Not enough grey hair on the other three. But he is for sure, the original guitar player. Even after all these years, and doubtless, countless performances, his original style still shines through. Bravo!
im playin this in school band
