@Gyroraptor101 G'day Bob... Thanks for steering me here. It looks better than the Pedalled Alternated 4-Engined Solar Oven... Um, PavePaws is right, the Taildragger- Undercarraige is designed to Ground-Loop. That's why Tiger Moths need REAL flying Skills, and Cessnas have a Training Wheel at the Nose. My concept is to put Pedals on a Land Yacht, sail when possible ; or fold the Rigging & pedal when neccessary.
Hello mr gyroraptor, nice work, i think is the better trike i seen in internet, i like that is assembled and not soldered. I start planning to make my trike assembled. The only part that make me thinking is the two front wheels "rotating junctions" how you manage to make them? can i see a photo of your trike inside part front wheels to get inspiration about construction. Sorry for strange english, hope understand. Anyway thank you for sharing. Salute from Italy.
Hard brake and that sucker will dive forward and slam the front chain rings to the ground. 50MPH down hill? HA HA HA ($100 if you can prove that one!) I've done 35 down a hill and that's on a bike. Scary. Tadpole trikes are not steady at high speeds. Minor handlebar move = swerve. Calibration (alignment) of both wheels is a bugger. You want them towed in to avoid flipping (which it will) Hard turns will either roll or fishtail. Weight to too far forward. KMX KART is 100% better
I live in the same area and also have a tadpole trike. If you'd like to ride together, write me at mjtfund@aol.com. No selling or spam, I promise. :-)
@SuperSouthside4life My Raptor clone cost me about 300 euro. You can see the result on my channel. It's fairly easy to alter the dimensions and some of the design features.
I think my trike will pretty much held up to an original Raptor of Rich thanks to the great job he did. Without good pictures I would never have succeeded. The simplicity of the Raptor is a result of his work and I'm only trying to make it available for everyone who wants to have a go.
For those who say the trikes are too low...they are, but when you're on 3 wheels, there is one less variable to worry about compared to an upright recumbent or two-wheeler, and that is falling over. You have the responsibility of being the eyes of the driver as well, but you have way more ability to see around you and ride extra defensively than drivers think. I have a Catrike. Drivers are not used to these things and that scares them.
NO WAY in SATAN's garden does that thing achieve 50mph even downhill.
I've ridden a SLINGSHOT (1970's design) and recently a KMX (kmxus.com) and flat level max of 25mph. I would not WANT to go 50mph nor could you find a hill that could produce that (not even SF!)
Hard brake that and you'd endo forward. Not with the KMX though.
Nice try but design flaws
Your steering is sketchy - a tiny wobble at 25 would flip that thing.
KMX have the counter bar/lever steering which is much easier and safer.
I hope you dont ride that death trap on roads driven by cars. You are so low they will run you over. Even if you have a flag its still too wide. Here where I live some dare to die those, of course on roads with no bike lines. So they hang out in traffic slowing everyone down because no one will pass them as there is no room.
@stopglobalswarming I dont know what happens in the US but in Greece 95% of the driver's licences are bought and not earned we have the highest % of car accidents.Cyclists get run over everyday and every weekend dozens of ppl die i car crash while going/returning from a trip.Search it your own if u dont believe...
Interesting design with the steering handlesright there at the wheel so you can mount the caliper brakes on them. How close is your hand to the tire though? seems like it would be kinda likely one could get your hand in the tire! Maybe a hand guard / fender would be a good addition?
Kudos! A really efficient design for sport or cross country biking. Are there design options available to allow for the storage or transporting of gear for a cross country trip? Where is this design of RRT allowed or disallowed to be used? It appears that your visual profile to vehicular traffic is far far less than a standard bicycle. The top of your head comes up to the grill section of most cars. Could larger diameter wheels be used to raise you higher? How hard is it to modify?
I have an upright bike, my understanding is that trikes/ velomobiles are actually more areodynamic, but not so good up hills due to their weight.
Cars are the problem for recumbents as you are harder to see then an upright. If more people rode bikes, more cycle paths, they are a better option then normal bikes.
Isn't the speed based a good deal on the engine, (how powerful your legs are)?
Hallo, During all my adult life I dream to construct some bike, like you did! May I ask You working drawings (design) about?! It wil be great friendships...
@PoPamfalon You can buy them from USA or Australia or UK and have it imported, if these types of "tadpole trikes" are not available to you in your country.
The frame isn't welded? It looks like it's all riveted together. Am I right? Very nice vehicle never the less, I'd like to build one myself. Are there any similar projects in the making?
@RealizedRealization hey everybody. if you want to build your own, you can go to a site like atomiczombie(dotcom) and chose what type of bike you want to build. no, i am not the site owner, i just brought my plans there and hang out in the forum and look at the bikes people have made in the gallery. this trike in the video is called a tadpole trike. i'm building a different kind of trike and will be starting in june. good luck to everyone!
Nice bike. I was wondering if you have the ability to shift gears and if not could you alter it to have multiple gears? You seem like a fun guy. I used to hang out with a man in his 60's when I was 13 and he taught me a lot about bikes & how to build them in exchange for mowing the lawn. I miss those days.
hello sir i only have one arm and i was wondering if one can drive this type of bike with one arm. can you stop it by pulling one brake, and can you turn with one arm. It is all i want to know thank you.
Looks like great fun. A lot more comfortable too than a standard bicycle seat plus a lot more energy efficient (especially good for long rides & sitting at the lights * If you dare ride the roads these days)
Mother Earth News had one you could build out of EMT conduit, years ago> bike parts and a few bearings, and such. There's was a 3 speed. I like to see the home built ones like this, and you describing the way it works. Instead of just riding around like the KMX, Which are very nice, but to much moola.I would like to see more video's like this.. How To. Thanks!

Most bike shops can set up a single brake lever that operates both brakes.
Steering with one arm is not difficult..

did you use regular bicycle hubs to the front wheels? how did you attached them to the frame? this is a very nice work, in any case...
FerKoVaX 3 years ago
I bought hubs from China , and made my own wheels. The axles are bolted to the steering
arms.
Rich
Gyroraptor101 3 years ago
where do you get those front wheels from?
powerchord91 3 years ago
I built them.
Rich
Gyroraptor101 3 years ago
how did you do that?
powerchord91 3 years ago
You start with a hub, a bunch of spokes and a rim. You lace them all together , align them and you have a wheel. Bike shops do it all the time.
It is a difficult art to learn.
Rich
Gyroraptor101 3 years ago
is it possible to just take the axle out of existing wheels and use them for front freewheels?
powerchord91 3 years ago
No way that I know of.
