Freaking Liir. "Peaceful" is not the word I'd pick. They love to invite me into an alliance or destroy me with bioweapons. Once I am with them, they wait until pretty much everyone else is in the alliance as well, then kick me out and exterminate me.
After roughly the fifth time they did this, I have adopted a new motto regarding space tarvel: "Nuke the whales!"
I like the Zuul, Hiver and Morrigi, though. They be good people.
The liir will be the most peaceful and gullible allies...until you accidently make a joke they don't understand and think you're Suul'ka. That's when they turn genocidal.
Shields are not that great . i would go for just relectors and deflector cause they don't fade. When top end tech comes around, shields are obsolete cause of PD phasers, PD absorbers, and mason projector shields. there are also bunch of weapon the hit through shields. deflectors might be the only thing that might be of any use due to impactor dreads are scary
Anyone who has played both this and Sins of a Solar Empire Extensively let me knowhow they compare. I have only played Sins. It seems like this at least has a single player campaign.
@Microverse1 I have played both and honestly they both are very well done games that you are worth getting, but I would wait for sword of the stars 2 to come out
I'm playing a game as humans right now, and I've got a squadron of a dozen destroyers that once worked over a combined fleet of over a hundred Liir and Morrigi ships, with three losses. It was glorious.
@TwadFeu You need ships with the "Squadron/Strikeforce/Armada/Fleet CnC" to increase the number of ships in combat at any given time. IIRC it's about 5 destroyers, or 2 cruisers, or 1 dreadnought without command. With the highest command you can get at least 38 destroyers, 12 cruisers, or 4 dreadnoughts in battle simultaneously - plus the flagship.
If there's a complaint against the game it's usually not that there's micromanagement, but that there's not enough.
@VaingloryMarshall hey any idea how to fight properly in a tactical combat? I lose horribly with advanced ships in tactical combat but auto resolve and I beat 20 ships no casualties with heavy damage on the first wave of ships (which I repair no problem). I can even do this to advanced lirr ships as a human player using just stormers and heavy drivers! I have no idea how to fight properly as my ships miss all the damn time... there seem to be no guides or anything
@Sveken Yes, you need a shield section on each ship that you want to be shielded. It's a "mission" IE middle component for destroyers, bridge for cruisers and dreadnoughts. Dreads can only use "deflectors" though, which only cover the forward arc.
Mark I shields can only take a few hits before recharging. Mark IVs take a real hammering, and there are also shields that are impervious to EITHER energy OR ballistic weapons.
@Giallarhorn Malevolent? The Liir are a peace-loving race that is fighting 'cause they're forced to. They don't like to fight, don't like high-explosive weapons, preferring surgical precision. If you want malevolent, check out the Zuul.
To be honest you have been lucky to get the best tech. I seem to always get the bad stuff :( but nice vid anyways.
Those humans didn't stand a chance against those antimatter projectors, with level 4 shields, phaser counter measures and anything else phaser or antimatter. Now all you need is to find away to have adv cloak with shields and your set :)
How I hate the Liir. Gigantic planets with nothing but endless water populated by malevolent, fully sentient fish things armed with weapons of mass destruction always make me nervous.
There's a scuttle option on the toolbar above your fleet list. That recoups a small amount of the build cost. Technology can increase the amount recouped.
@phongbong, you don't manage your empire in Nexus, you just do tightly scripted missions, it's not the same kind of game, honestly. It's more like a roleplaying game but mind you, it is completely awesome too.
Basically ships are divided into bridge, mission, and engines. Engines you generally pick the best available, but bridges and mission modules allow various combinations of speed, maneuvering, and weapons. So you design based around the modules, and selecting which weapons, shields, armor, et cetera to place in the available spaces.
Total slaughter cause the liir obviously out-tech the humans here; sheer numbers are worthless if the tech level doesn't match or come close to the oppostion.
Antimatter projector. Not always available, but usually if you research the plasma/fusion/antimatter cannon weapons there'll be a projector weapon for one of the types.
I'd Crash them all ^^ in the Elliptical Galaxy, ofcourse ^^ every one, Repties, Delphies, Tazzies, Bugs, Crows and other Humas fall before my Cuttin' Beams :D And I've almost 200 Dreadnoughts xDDDDDDDD and over 400millions
if you get the MK4 shields it goes a lot smoother then armor and you can last a lot longer believe me I had a few planetary missiles strike a cruiser with the shields mod and they lived through the whole battle
so shielded vessels are a great for having in the front of ur fleet cause the shields can take a beating for 2 minutes non-stop and I was using the MK2 version
Saggsett you finally goaded me into replying! The Liir ships had shields, which absorbed the majority of damage. When the shields went down I withdrew them until they came back on. The human ships were virtually all brand-new combat vessels, very few were old or non-combat. The main reason the Liir won is because the AM projector could destroy the Human cruisers in one salvo, and then withdraw. The AM projector, cannons, and shield design, with the right tactics, is very hard to beat.
The Liir ships are mine, the human's AI. There's a human command ship at the very start of the clip - it was actually destroyed at the very end of the battle. It lurked at the fringe of the battlespace, undamaged. I can't remember how many cruisers the cruiser-level command ships allow "on the field" at one time, but the humans had more cruisers in combat at one time than I did.
since i am new at this game, for the human side which is the side i like playing best what weapons are the most powerful for that race?
i am notceing with some of my human ships as well that they dont seem to fire very often, much like that video - how can they become more aggressive in combat?
If I get this right then I think you are talking about Rate of Fire the most powerfull weapons can vary in volleys missiles can be pretty powerfull but can be shot down it does vary in what tech is available(spelling) as you probably know the tech tree is not the same even if you play the same race twice personally I'm playing Tarkas using lasers and some missiles.
i love the liir, i preffer to use DE and alot of them, with the ratio of 10 to 1 against CR and 40 to 1 against DN you dont need to worry about losses and 50 destroyers with fixed mason beam or anti matter torp have quite the fire power.
I've been playing Humans lately, and Hiver before that. Liir are still favorites though. I find the projector/shield cruisers are unbeatable. DNs (except Armada Commanders) always seemed to be white elephants really. Very well balanced though; beam heavy DNs will slaughter the average DE, but certain DEs are DN hunters, so there's the constant arms race.
thats where the liir superior tech come in, the enemy might or might not have the right tech to counter the liir but the liir WILL have almost everything to counter back.
if the enemy goes for heavy beam DN i unleash armies of shilded destroyers with the heaviest weapons i can find, again swarms win all.
but i also love the liir barrage assualt CR, 5 torp are awsome if the enemy dont have deflectors.
I think it obviouse it Born of Blood and that doesn't matter to much does it the fact remains its SotS in all its glory! LoL the Human War Cruisers pretty much give it away that it BoB
Not bad not bad, but I think that I could turn that battle around with some of my human designs. Take a bunch of heavy cruisers and dreadnoughts with long range fixed beam weapons to the front, and phaser banks out to the back. Then stick them in a tight phalanx, and they'll fry anything that gets close, and flanking them will open you to a phaser barrage. Nevertheless, I really admire how you combine a wide variety of ships into a well planned strategy. Well done, keep it up!
What other aspects are ther ein this game? I mean, is there any kind of influence on your economy? Any diplomacy? Spying? Sabotage? Colonization? Planetary defense? Ground forces?

All teams have the same technologies, except that for any given game certain technologies aren't available to certain players. The human AI didn't invest in shields, hence why he doesn't have them.
Six of the Liir cruisers carried the heavy anti-matter cannon, and anti-matter projectors from Born of Blood expansion. There was also a repair vessel and a command vessel, they used anti-matter and shields as well. One salvo from the projectors usually took out one ship, because the heavy cannon wore them down a lot before they came into projector range.
