the number one reason ive never flushed my engine cause its clean. if it were worry i wouldnt flush because it can know shit loose in the engine and clog up small orfices
the number one reason ive never flushed my engine cause its clean. if it were worry i wouldnt flush because it can know shit loose in the engine and clog up small orfices
Guess what, I work at this auto mechanic shop and this one guy brought in his
1999 Isuzu Rodeo, never had a timing belt done on it and it has 359K miles on it!
I was surprised! But hell yeah! My 1993 Isuzu Rodeo is awesome, doing 60 mph at 2800RPM lol! it has 273k miles, have not yet done a timing belt ever!... want to do one, but to lazy to. anways, goodluck with your Trooper! Btw, I didn't know there was 2 door Troopers! COOL loking truck!
@assphincter i have a 99 holden monterey, (isuzu trooper) done 185,000 kms and runs like a dream, any car can last for a long time they just have to be well looked after and seen as though i payed $60,000 for it brand new, ive looked after it very well
Before all the changes in the late 60's people would put a pint of kerosene in the oil to clean the engines. Drive about 100 miles and everything that was in the engine was flushed. At 60,000 miles the engines needed complete tear downs.
The oils today such as Amsoil and good filters makes me leary of needing this flush. I personally will not use them.
Woah! Hell no you don't want to run TODAYs ATF in any engine. I run a diesel and the only way to flush them is with a proper flush oil. ATF loves to completely destroy lubrication properties of oil
They dont tell you redline uses group V base stocks wich is better then group IV base stocks paos in amsoil. Also the extra zinc used in amsoil is bad for catalytic converters.
I'd hate to have to educate you about base oils but Group V is only known as "Other." While Redline's polyol ester fits into Group V, it in no way makes it superior to Group IV, i.e. polyalphaolefins. Each has its own performance characteristics. You can't depend on Redline's base oil for extended change intervals, because it doesn't do well in the presence of moisture and condensation. Not to mention AMSOIL's new Dominator Racing Oils outperform Redline by a significant margin on a dyno.
@StuffButter High molecular weight esters, such as the specific polyol esters used by Redline, actually aren't hygroscopic at all. Water will burn out of Redline oils just like any other oil. Regarding the extended drain capabilities of POEs, I suggest you look at the OCIs of jet engines, which use POE based lubricants, and then remove foot from mouth.
@StuffButter "Not to mention AMSOIL's new Dominator Racing Oils outperform Redline by a significant margin on a dyno."
Crock, by manipulating IATs, CHTs, and weather station sampling I can make a dyno run fluctuate by 60-70 rwhp on the same car within 10 minutes of each other, and that is SAE corrected to SAE corrected numbers.
And as far as zinc having anything to do with catalytic converters, you're getting it confused with phosphorus, which was long believed to be the culprit of catalytic converter failure. That myth has been dispelled.
jayguy174 - Group 5 base stocks, or Ester base stocks, have a much greater tendency to leak. AMSOIL doesn't just simply use a PAO base stock, but a blend for the best of both worlds. The 0W-20, 5W-20, 5W-30 and 10W-30 all meet current API specifications and dont' have any extra zinc in them.
Well when you become a mechanic then let me know it isnt just fixing cars if a non synthetic will leak in the same hole a full synthetic will this rumor you have are from old synthetic oils before they created what they do now wich have seal conditioners and swell additives.
jayguy173-I have been in the auto repair industry for over 25 years. Oils will leak at different rates due to viscosity characteristics differences and base stock differences. ATF doesn't have detergents in it.
Wrong, a molicules of synthetic oil are smaller and all of same consistancy. take a 180 pound basketball player and a 180 pound couch potato same weight different sizes.
@Echeque5 Ester base stock have a much LESSER tendency to leak! Esters have extremely high polarity and extreme seal swell characteristics. It it PAOs that have extremely low polarity and poor seal swell characteristics.
@Echeque5 Only Amsoil's XL line carry API certifications, their full synthetics are NOT API certified. Just correcting an error, as I don't put much into API certs on high end oils. The API is run by the very people it governs. The API does do a great job of keeping low-end oils (like conventionals) in line by makind sure they meet minimum specs, but I believe the API can actually act as a hindrence to high end oil formulators.
I know this an old video and all, but as a little tid-bit of info. When Isuzu installed the 2.8 V6(gm) into their vehicles they had gm do a LOT of changes to them during manufacturing so they'd hold up to Isuzu standards...(ie: isuzu had them fix the head gasket issue...)
Hey Ron, it certainly is your motor. I should have it on the road hopefully next week. It still starts up every time as you said it would. I'm going to flush it again in a 1000 miles or so and hopefully it will last a few years. Maybe I'll drive it to NC when you move down there.
yeah its the 4L30E, too small for a SUV, they used them in the Rodeos, Troopers, 4x4 Pickups 88-94 V6 3.1L (stroked 2.8). the trans is the weak link in the vehicles, like the old Metric 200s before the 700R4 came out. The 4L60, 4L65,4L80 should have been in the SUVs atleast the 4L60....the 2.8L are work horses, 200k is nothing...just the trans usually went out first around 100k. BMW used them??? man thats a shame

Thats to unwax diesel they put atf in engines to clean them and still do due to there high detergency.

all oil leaks equally the only way to fix it is fix the gasket zinc is anti wear additive

@Echeque5 In fact, that is why many people with leaking axle seals can often ELIMINATE the leak with an ester based gear oil.
