The real tragedy is not the response of the president or FEMA, but that so many people stayed in the storm's path. Just look at Hurricane Andrew, or the tornadoes of May 2011 that killed 183 mostly white people. You didn't see such chaos and whining. I lived through 2 massive hurricanes, and never saw whining like in New Orleans.

@1548207 The majority of people affected by Katrina WERE white. The news media just focused on blacks. The actual storm related deaths were 240 blacks vs. 231 whites. The real tragedy is not the response of the president or FEMA, but that so many people stayed in the storm's path. Just look at Hurricane Andrew, or the tornadoes of May 2011 that killed 183 mostly white people. You didn't see such chaos and whining. I lived through 2 massive hurricanes, and never saw whining like in New Orleans.

@bgsego i was in the superdome during katrina. i was smart enough to get out of the way when i had advanced warning of the storm. i boarded up my home early, took my pets to a safe location, stocked 5 gallons of fresh water in my car & parked my car in a high rise parking structure, so that it wouldn't get flooded, which most people, including law enforcement themselves, were not smart enough to do, and went into what i was told would be a secure shelter for the storm. the superdome

@342kobe No. I was in the Superdome before, during, and after Hurricane Katrina. There were some ignorant and foolish people. But for the most part, we knew no color. Those of us who were stranded here, banded together and became one and the government was the failure here!!!!

@bgsego i did everything i was supposed to do on my end. at the point i was in the superdome, it was up to city planners, the mayor, emergency management & those in authority to make sure they had a plan to have things prepared & run smoothly, which they didn't. they knew for years that the levees could break, and if they did, what could happen. they had all those years to have some good plans in place & they did not. only afterwards, were they trying to come up with something.

@bgsego i'm tired of people trying to blame the victims. put a distinction between ppl like me, who did what they were supposed to do...and ppl who didn't. who stayed home despite warnings & had to be rescued off of their roof & brought to the superdome. both kinds were in the superdome. most people in the superdome, like me, did what they were supposed to do. i am not to blame for the incompetence of the government. all this was forceable because the levees broke in betsy & the city was flooded

@bgsego ..also most of new orleans black population left the city all together and went out of state, before the hurricane came. what you saw in the superdome and convention center is a small fraction of the entire black population of new orleans. some people think...if they see a lot of black people together...that's all of the black people in the city, and represent all of the black people....wrong..ppl say why didn't the black ppl leave. they did.

@titantic26 I can only imagine how devastating that was. God surely was unhappy. He was trying to send a message. My prayers and thoughts went out to NOLA daily. I am from Ms and we struggled BUT I know it was nothing compared to what NOLA dealt with.
