She got injured just before the '88 Olympics (I think it was '88) and missed out on a medal chance (she was a favorite apparently), but even in her 30's when I knew her she was incredible, specialty was the ribbon. She was teaching gymnastics at that time and doing some acting.

Are you talking about "Letters to a Young Gymnast"? Yes, it's totally amazing. I'm right now reading Kerri's book called "Diary of Dreams." It's really good too. One of the best I've read by a gymnast.
I love Kerri when Nadia and Bela are discussing Nadia doing a double. Kerri looks like she's thinking, "Go ahead and try it, it's not like you're one of us. It's not like he's going to make you do 500 situps if you screw it up."
Nadia had MASSIVE motivation and energy, but I'm pretty sure it was Bela who brought the best out of her. Both Nadia and Bela are one of a kind. The best ever at what they do.
Nice to see Nadia doing her stuff again. The US does not have a government-centralized training system like most countries do, so it's up to the individual club coaches to set the time. There's usually a training camp for the national team once every 2 or 3 months, and that semi-centralized system is run on sponsors and personal funds.

extremely reliable source..that why i started saying these comments because of what she told me. She new these girls really well including nadia. you should hear the stories she told me. She was the french teacher for all the girls back in romania and her husband was one of Bella's top coworkers. See the thing is though, this was communist kgb time and they wanted to give the idea that their
people were the best so they would stop at nothing to do that and the kids were scared. These kids got no food, everything was searched by the gov and my french teacher(their french teacher) would sneak in food because they would never search her purse because of who her husband was. Well yes, this year's olympic team isnot as the previous one. But that's because all the2004 gymnasts have retired even Belu and Bitang and all the 2008 team is just out of the junior,and because of Nistor's injury few years ago, and also Izbasa was injured in 2007 and they both suffered a long time of their injures. He wasn't in business to be kind and coddle the gymnasts. He was in the business to train champions. They had parents to be kind to them, but the parents wouldn't help them get perfect 10's.

Wow, I never heard that. Where did you hear it? What was the source? Was it reliable, or did the source have an ulterior motive for saying that. Because if it was me and he said that to me, I would go home, tell my parents, quit his gym and go to the police. Or I would have a tape recorder and try to get him to say it again. These kids got no food, everything was searched by the gov and my french teacher(their french teacher) would sneak in food because they would never search her purse because of who her husband was. Bottom line was, you didnt dare go agaisnt the commi's and bella was on their side at that time.

You might wish to purchase a dictionary as well. It's "spelled", not "spelt". Spelt is an ancient wheat with spikelets containing two light red grains. Has nothing to do with spelling.

I don't want to debate either. I was just saying that if high-level gymnasts is the goal, this is what is required. Every area of success requires specific preparation. For gymnastics, this is the preparation that's necessary. As to the "damagied bodies," all athletes at all ages risk it. It's up to each person to decide what they want to do.

Having Nadia go against the then teenagers of Kim Zmeskel, Kerri Strug, etc. was agewise the same as when Oksana Chusovitina (at 33) competed against the teenage gymnasts at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Funny thing is, Oksana C. is the same age as what the teens from this video (Kim, Kerri, Betty, etc.) now are! Well yes, this year's olympic team isnot as the previous one. But that's because all the2004 gymnasts have retired even Belu and Bitang and all the 2008 team is just out of the junior,and because of Nistor's injury few years ago, and also Izbasa was injured in 2007 and they both suffered a long time of their injures. But though all that,they could still manage to goto the olympics and win the team bronze,and a gold in the FX, and wining the 2008 europeans.. So Do you still think they'r..shit?
