people! you can't set them free. they wouldn't know how to survive. plus, these whales are pretty spoiled by their trainers. they love them. but they also know and understand the risks of working with 8000 pound killer whales. sometimes animal instinct takes over. i don't know why that whale attacked, but i do know that setting the whales free just isn't realistic.

They tried this with Keiko and he still looked for human contact which is even more dangerous for the animal! Be realistic, most of the orca's there are born inside there, they would never be able to survive on their own and there is no pod that will connect to them so the orca would be alone until the orca deis.

OMG! Closing Seaworld isn't he answer. Closing the whale attraction. The whale attacked before so they need to get rid of the whale. Maybe the whale was upset because of the construction going on near his tank. They don't like loud noise but the cheering of the crowd doesn't seem to bother them. I live in Ca. I have been to Six Flags Marina World and their Killer Whales haven't had in problems with their whales. I think its just the that typical whale since he has attacked before.

In 1972 there was the Marine Animal Protection Act passed that states no one can take a wild animal out of the oceans and keep them in captivity. Many of the Animals that are in the Sea World parks have been born there and would not no how to cope with being in the Wild! Like anything you do in life there is a risk. You take a risk driving a vehicle, you take a risk when you get into an ocean The trainers know this as well. I support Sea World and ALL of their trainers!!!
@guitarbabe21 keep in mind that most of the whales and animals at SeaWorld are saved and rehabilitated. Most of the Killer Whales are also born into the park, so it's all they know. Releasing them into the ocean would be like putting a new born baby into the ghetto and saying "learn to survive". So yeah if it makes you happy then seaworld can release all the animals. But they wont last a week.

Out of the 150+ killer whales brought into captivity, roughly 30 were born there and only a few, like Kshemenk and Pascuala, were rescued. As for reintroduction, it should be taken in a case by case basis. Those who qualify for reintroduction, like Kshamenk or Lolita, should have a chance. The rest, let them remain and let captivity end with their passing.

She was rapidly moving side to side with pony tail flying back and forth whale rapidly following her. She was having fun playing but pony tail flying attracted whale and like a cat it grabbed her hair. She loved/trusted this animal but it was either playing or aggravated. TILLIE should not have been sold after she killed the trainer in 1991 should have NEVER perform again after killing someone. Trainers SHOULD KNOW HISTORY OF WHALE. To save $ they sold whale instead of retiring it to sanctuary.

Tillikum was naturaly a whale swimming in the ocean when it was captured and moved to a aquarium.Any whale would probobly have a bad attitude about humans then.Sometime in that aquarium a whale started killing a guy and he joined in.That probobly imprinted on him so he killed another guy in seaworld for climbing in his tank after hours and now this.
Wild animals belong to nature. They don't do such things for the fun of having people entertained. Neither they enjoy doing them. It is about time to understand that zoos are completely anachronic.

Citing statistics that over 50 percent of SeaWorld orcas have died since 1987, Forestell says the animals are ill-suited to withstand the stresses of living in "what amounts to a bucket of water, when compared with the area a free-ranging orca would cover in its lifetime."

Seaworld has a massive pole stuck up its arse. They think that they can do whatever the hell they want, even if it puts the orcas AND trainers at risk. Hiding medical records? But as @guitarbabe21 says: the real victims are the whales not the humans. And she`s right. If the whales in Sea world isn`t 100% healthy then there u have ur reason for it`s attack. And also if the trainer acted threatening or did a quick turn then that also could trigger it`s attack. But put down an animal just because no one ever bothered to find the trigger of it`s attack is just plain LAME. And it pisses me off.

Only 4 attacks from Killer Whales on humans...... This one is responsible for 3 of them. It needs to be finished off. It wasn't fooled by her pony tail either. They are too smart for that. I think these animals are amazing, but this particular one needs to be put down.

In 1972 there was the Marine Animal Protection Act passed that states no one can take a wild animal out of the oceans and keep them in captivity. Many of the Animals that are in the Sea World parks have been born there and would not no how to cope with being in the Wild! Like anything you do in life there is a risk. You take a risk driving a vehicle, you take a risk when you get into an ocean The trainers know this as well. I support Sea World and ALL of their trainers!!!

@guitarbabe21 keep in mind that most of the whales and animals at SeaWorld are saved and rehabilitated. Most of the Killer Whales are also born into the park, so it's all they know. Releasing them into the ocean would be like putting a new born baby into the ghetto and saying "learn to survive". So yeah if it makes you happy then seaworld can release all the animals. But they wont last a week.

@bluefishswim That's inaccurate. Most of the whales were captured in Killer whale round ups and taken from the wild solely for profit. Out of the 150+ killer whales brought into captivity, roughly 30 were born there and only a few, like Kshemenk and Pascuala, were rescued. As for reintroduction, it should be taken in a case by case basis. Those who qualify for reintroduction, like Kshamenk or Lolita, should have a chance. The rest, let them remain and let captivity end with their passing.

She was rapidly moving side to side with pony tail flying back and forth whale rapidly following her. She was having fun playing but pony tail flying attracted whale and like a cat it grabbed her hair. She loved/trusted this animal but it was either playing or aggravated. TILLIE should not have been sold after she killed the trainer in 1991 should have NEVER perform again after killing someone. Trainers SHOULD KNOW HISTORY OF WHALE. To save $ they sold whale instead of retiring it to sanctuary.

......The trainers knew they were getting themselves into this...theres always a possibility that the whales will turn on them, usually the reason is because of agitation. Honestly, as much as I enjoy watching them at SeaWorld they have to let them go for gods sake they shouldve learned by now that killer whales killed or injured alot of trainers..usually its not on purpose..

That was so sad how they had tilikum in that tiny tank . Like he could barely more . But it was so sweet how the whales in the big tank were trying to get as close as they could to tilikum .
People are so dumb when it comes to these animals. Sure it's unfortunate that people have died but honestly , play with fire and you get burned. These aren't dogs they're killers that belong in the wild . Hopefully now people will recognize that captivity is horrible for marine mammals !

Tillikum was naturaly a whale swimming in the ocean when it was captured and moved to a aquarium.Any whale would probobly have a bad attitude about humans then.Sometime in that aquarium a whale started killing a guy and he joined in.That probobly imprinted on him so he killed another guy in seaworld for climbing in his tank after hours and now this.

We are the most destructive animal on the planet. The world will be a far better place when we are gone. No animal should be held captive for our entertainment. They call it education but its all about the all mighty dollar. I totally agree with helping a wounded animal as long as it is released once healed or even certain circumstances where the animal would pass and there is no other choice. But this containment of such raw power should not be allowed. All animals deserve more respect.
