@mgd777 no, the left foot can add very effective leverage if your foot is lodged in under the 'arm-bar-ee's' shoulder blade. the fault in the submission was in the position the hand was held in, the arm-bar-ee's thumb needed to be turned upwards for pressure to be applied on the elbow joint properly.
Actually, knees can be put in the position depending on how you get your arm bar. How he got it from side control called for it cause putting your leg over wouldve taken time. As long as your kegs are tight, there wont be a problem. Ex., GSP vs Matt hughes 1.
@mgd777 arm bar can be excuted well with shin to the back rather then "knee to chest" it brings opponent off his back and actually can make it hurt more if done right with a good angle

well usually these backyard fights are the sloppiest excuses for mma anyone watching has ever seen, but hey, I was impressed.
Clearly these guys haven't trained much, or they're just holding back because they're approaching it as more of a sparring session.
Dude got the takedown, passed guard and secured the armbar (not pretty, but it worked)... for a couple average joes in a backyard, it wasn't bad

that makes sense. I practice with my friends too so I understand that you're not trying to kill each other. anyone who's trained knows that if the other guy isn't going 100%, then you don't either.. the real fight's on the street not in the gym... or the backyard lol

not a bad armbar. Too bad you couldn't get your leg over, definitely would have made for a quicker submission. At least you knew how to do it though. Almost everyone who posts "mma" vids on youtube have no idea how to do simple subs. So...good job!
