  • Jimi's style was to play dirty. Earlier live versions of this song are "cleaner". It's just what he evolved into...a musical genius always and forever.

  • my favourite live !!!!.it makes my skin crawl ,my speakers are about to explode faucking yeahh purple brain all in my haze

  • i heard the hendrix estate is going to realease this concert on blu ray soon i hope they do because it is up there with woodstock epic performance

  • Guys below, I think sloppy isn't the right word, maybe gritty or dirty he could play the cleanest and beautifulest shit I have ever heard... But could then go to a jaw dropping solo with heavy distortion

  • I am a HUGE Hendrix fan, but this wasn't that great of a performance of purple haze :/

  • wenn ich mir sein gitarrenspiel ansehe und sehe mit was für einer leichtigkeit er spielt ,denke ich mir nur "was für ein bastard"

    ja ich bin neidisch

  • why have double case on drums ?

  • He's still the best, no question. He is the guitar, the guitar is him. We might never experience another like him for many generations.

  • the 3 guys dancing at 34 seconds are great

  • HE WAS LIKE A THUNDERBOLT RECKLESS ABANDONED

  • Noel Redding-- "Why in the fuck do I have to go direct in?!??"

Jimi Hendrix-- "Yeeah man. Cos baby, I need like, seven Marshall stacks, baby."

  • love how he explodes into that riff at the start

  • I was there!

  • @MrMoggyman Lucky bastard :D

  • so fuckin raw!

  • Im a pretty huge Hendrix nerd and this night purple haze was just not going his way, definitely sloppy but I think its probably the distraction of the stress because of the guitar randomly feeding back and guitar continually falling out of tune in front of thousands of people... all in all its still a killer version of purple haze

  • es una ,ierda

  • bongo haha

  • The crowd is so civilized i would've loved to have been there!

  • He's playin his old rosewood

look how beat to hell it is

  • I went to that concert - amazing!

  • haha honestly the guy with the bongo when does that ever happen at a concert haha

  • drums and bass sound ok but Jimi's rhythm is really shitty.

  • god why is the p.a systems in england so shit

  • i don't think it has anything to do with him being sloppy i think it had more to do with a lack of enthusiasm due to the endless touring. he did something like 500 shows in his 4 year career. you can't blame the guy for not giving it his all for every single concert

  • @tacitus2244 Jimi always left everything out on the stage no matter how much or little it was. Either way it was the best and he never played the same song exactly the same. That shows he cared enough about his fans to try new sounds and chord progressions and solos. Don't ever say he didn't give it all. RIP Jimi. When I have a son, his name will be Hendrix.

  • @flamehed709 I can say what ever the fuck I want. So fuck you. There are concerts were he was just not in it.Thats not to say he couldn't turn it on when he wanted to i.e. BOG concerts, Live at winterland, IOW, Berkley and numerous other concerts. For you to say that every concert was him giving it his best is just u being delusional. For the record I think the RAH concerts were excellent. I don't think he was a sloppy distorted mess far from it.

  • cant say enough about this vid--its like yur there(-and what a performance.goodness my oh my,so inspirational,,the coolest mofo 2 bleed through a guitar

  • Comment removed

  • i have this concert on cd :D

  • holy shit that must have been loud....

  • Do you guys notice all the people that are on LSD during this show haaha :)

  • RAW.

  • if only he was still alive...what he did with the face of rock will forever be imprinted on the world....R.I.P Jimi

  • man i need some green right NOW

  • Just excuse me while I kiss this guy. lol

  • those people dancing knew the life--god damn great concert

  • i would have liked to have been there.SELF RAISING FLOWERS

  • I hope everyone in there is 18... That blew _MY MIND_

  • I've had the entire concert for many years on VHS. The good news is that Experence Hendrix will release this movie next year.

  • which year is this from?

  • @Nimrod9458 69

  • 44 years later... jimmi is still untouchable. nobody is even in his league

  • @hungerstriker27 Joe Satriani comes to mind. :)

  • @hungerstriker27 SRV is the closest one.

  • Mitch Mitchell on fire baby

  • never

  • Did anyone else notice the guy that comes out of nowhere far right stage and just starts playing a bongo?

    1:58

  • @democratusnostradams

yes... and i bet that guy (if he is able to remember that) have told to every single person he knows "I play the percusions with jimmi hendrix in the RAH..... and he did.

  • @democratusnostradams He once took a taxi to a recording studio and found out that the driver had some bongos, so he just invited him in to jam with him and a few others. Awesome guy

  • @democratusnostradams haha! if you watch room full of mirrors from the R.A.H you will see him and another guy on guitar lol.

  • @democratusnostradams perhaps it was Juma Sultan who played percussions with Jimi at Woodstock

  • @democratusnostradams i dont think anyone will here him

  • @democratusnostradams no es jerry velez???

  • @democratusnostradams its a conga

  • @democratusnostradams Lol =) You would think he wished really bad to be entitled to say "I played with Jimmy Hendrix". And so shall be read in his gravestone, "he went to the heaven to jam some more with Jimi. Go Hit that drumhead hard, man!

  • Could not be said better! Youtube is kind of gold mine. Sure there is lots of stones… but there is days… the things that I found was unimaginable to exist. Thanks!

  • where is this footage coming from

  • Jimi was so sloppy and always a distorted mess...I love it lol His playing and stage presence and his way of playing everything with pure feeling is something I will never get to see in my lifetime by anyone else. His playing habits and usage of feedback was just so brilliant. Him and Steve Jones are the reasons why I've been playing guitar for years and years. RIP Jimi, your missed by a generation that never got to see you and im sure generations to come.

  • @tatethompson1234 "Jimi was so sloppy and always a distorted mess..." that's one way to look at it, I believe the reason his playing might appear to some as sloppy and what not was because he was just so relaxed so beyond of proving anything as a guitar player The way he talks the way he moves totally relaxed, so flexible Sometimes when I watch him it's like he's in his own Universe. I heard that he was shy, then I read about two chicks making cast of his woody, so much for him being shy :-)

  • @tatethompson1234 Hendrix was not always sloppy ,liste to "little wing" from that concert

  • @kimmedavid Read my comment, I know he wasen't always. I meant sloppy in a good way. He always played so relaxed and effortlessly and always different. He diden't care if he played note for note. Little Wing is one of my favorites, I don't like the studio version tho, live is best.

  • @tatethompson1234 whats sloppy,your sloppy uhg!!

  • @jasonsback Sloppy in a good way, read my other comments. Just because someone plays sloppy doesen't make them bad, alot of big guitar players sloppy like Jimmy Page, hes one of the sloppiest live players I have ever seen but it so freakin amazing and its just his style

  • @tatethompson1234 maannn! You just text the words y could have not write ;)

  • @tatethompson1234 mate i hate to pick you up but you started "Jimi was so sloppyy and always a distoreted mess... I love it lol".Mate that is offensive to anyone who has an eardrum.I know you love him and I know you don't mean know harm, but please watch what you say because words don't come across how you mean them and people like me take offense. What you might have said is,"I love Jimi as his control of feedback and saturation defined a new wave of sound that had never been envisioned."

  • @DanielGrozier "his LOOSNESS belied a mastery, sypher like understanding of all past and present, leaving ripples of soundwaves echoing in his wake forevermore."something like that.I know you're a fan ,I mean you no disrespect,it's just a pet peeve I have of the call you said"sloppy",thats ridiculous.I've got some playing posted if you want to criteeke me

  • @tatethompson1234

"Jimi was so sloppy and always a distorted mess".

    --

Cant say I agree with that.

Compare this Hendrix performance with his performance at Woodstock: both versions are pretty much identical. Amazing for a live act

(Search Youtube for: "Purple Haze-Jimi Hendrix Live in colour".)

    >>

Mind you, he may have just been dropping the same type of acid on both occasions )

  • @Stoory All of you replying to this are reading it wrong. Re-read what I wrote and other comments that I have replied. Yes Jimi was amazing and with his feedback use ect but he was sloppy, sloppy in a good, free, effortless way. Thats what made him, him. He wasen't perfect in a good way. My mother saw him at Woodstock and also at Clark U like 15min away from my house. Sorry to sound like a jerk, just gets sickning replying same thing over and over lol Have a good one, and Experience on!

  • @tatethompson1234

nobody is "reading it wrong", you wrote it wrong and asked for it.

"Jimi was so sloppy and always a distorted mess"

    here's the semantics:

-he himself wasn't sloppy, you meant his PHRASING, and even then, it isn't inherently sloppy, it only was when he wanted it so, when the fuzz was dimed. inherent sloppiness would show even on acoustic.

-he wasn't a distorted mess, his TONE was distorted

  • @daljin1991 Yes they are. Why do you think I have so many thumbs up? Us real musicians know what each are saying and how we mean it. So why don't you play in some traffic. Jim did play very sloppy, in a good way. Jimmy Page is a really sloppy live guitarist but in a brilliant way. I have over 30 bootlegs of Hendrix and let me tell you, on atleast 25 of them he is playing extremely messy. No shit his tone was distorted, Einstien. You can be a distorted mess also, he preferred it. Have a good day.

  • @tatethompson1234

you got 30+ b/c your intentions were good, despite your ignorance of subject-verb agreement. bootlegs? I've heard them, messy didn't come to mind unless you mean harsh quality

the tone personifies sloppiness but you wouldn't know the difference if he turned the volume down to remove all the crackling and distortion

the reason I emphasized tone being the source of distortion is, your comment states that HE was a distortion mess - instead of tone. english error.

  • Legend.

  • The audience sure knows how to headbang \m/

  • Nice solo but not his best purple haze. Where s the guitarsolo at the and? Like every other live versions.

  • Nice solo but not his best purple haze.

  • Hello there music appreciator. I know this looks like spam But PLEASE HEAR ME OUT

Well I am formally inviting you to take a listen to my channel, Using your open mind take the time to hear my tunes.. your subscribtion to my channel will help me show the world my music. Much Love.

  • @clemsontigz Check out Machine GUn Band of Gypsies.

  • @clemsontigz RR was one of many great guitarists.

  • @clemsontigz guitarists need to be sloppy i dont wanna any soft pansy ass shit while im listenin to a song....he was drunk and nervous because the crowd was really rowdy...like in a bad way

  • I hate it when people say either "There will never be another guitar player like Hendrix" or "Today's music sucks, we'll never get music greater than this". Plug a guitar into an amp and make your own music if you feel so inclined.

  • @GrantH527 Respect!

  • i was at this show, and no there will never be another guitarist like jimi,

    even the best musicians agree.

  • some excessive dancing going on :)

  • look for the Beatles, there jaws where hang,in

  • WOW,who else could pull off white, green and pink in the same outfit and still be UBERCOOL 40 years later?

  • HOLY SHIT JIMI HOW MANY FUCKING STACKS DO YOU NEED??

  • You should see those kids in the front when foxy is in effect.

  • Where's the tripy efx on the video I like my copy scratched as it may be.

  • why do peeps say such stupid childish things...oh ya...they are children...lol

  • Scuze me,while I "Jimi points at Noel" kiss this guy.LOL

  • Jesus Tapdancing Christ! I've wanted to see this video for about 30 years now! Why hasn't this been officially released is beyond me.

  • when Jimi points to the girl and says ''she put a spell on me'' Man! I guess it's like being touched by the hand of god! Her life would have been changed forever! Rolls his tongue and smiles at her.. Bless her!!!!

  • zakk dimebag mayer ,all

,nothing. without hendrix,s influence and knowledge.and still they don,t get close

  • asti que le monde sont dedans caliss de tabarnak, vive hendrix hahaha,

  • LMAO without Jimi there would be no Zakk or Dimebag. without Jimi everything would still sound like the Beatles

  • @clemsontigz Wow you are really clueless. LMAO @ John Mayer...

  • @RebelThoughts i second that

  • @clemsontigz Where do people like you come from? I swear! Where is your freakin' head boy?!

  • @clemsontigz LOL...respect to those guys u mentioned but trust me dude...those guys would be fucking nowhere without jimi's influence, I strongly doubt they'd deny my statement, so please...don't u either.

  • @pongoalejo Never said that he didnt CHANGE the way guitar was or is played , I merely stated that he was sloppy as shit.. he woulda never made it today in my opinion.. have a nice day..

  • @clemsontigz Why don't you go listen to Coldplay you dope if it's pristine flawless muzak by numbers you want to hear. Pure diamonds have rough edges berk.

  • @clemsontigz I wouldn't make a judgement on the basis of one recording anyway. There are plenty of other great live Hendrix recordings available that aren't sloppy. Listen to Red House from San Diego, Randall's Island, or Albert Hall. Not to mention the live version of Little Wing from RAH too. An of course, Machine Gun from Band of Gypsies. There are so many others - live concert, studio "live" and studio "intensive" - like House Burning Down from Electric Ladyland. He did make it.

  • @clemsontigz go fuck yourself

  • @shaka7611 lmao now now be nice, I hate that I had an opinion on your junkie hero but thats why everyones different.. lmao go fuck yaself, good one

  • @clemsontigz you would never make it today.

  • @clemsontigz WOW, i bet your like 5, you need to learn more about to roots of music....get this through your head BOY!.....with out jimi theres no zukk wylde & specially fucking john mayer!....learn your shit before you post retarded shit

  • @clemsontigz i think your forgetting thier fucking foundation???? jimi is one of just a handful of guitarist that r the foundation of what we call music today. know your shit boy before you make yourself look like a dirty ass douche on youtube. just saying to clear the air and make this awful wrong you said rite.

  • @clemsontigz Everybody obviously has a right to an opinion, but..suggesting John Mayer is a better guitar player than Hendrix? Ignorance isn't becoming to anybody, especially if those whom you hold in such regard wouldn't agree with you..Mayer might, just because he believes the 13 year old girls at his show. I suppose you MIGHT be a 13 year old girl given the available information. Hell, you're insulting Dimebag even putting him in the same category with John Mayer, uber-douche...but HENDRIX?

  • Another amazing live video I hadn't seen before. What has always amazed me about JH is how he gets a certain dissonance to his sound that is like he's almost out of tune but he's not because he brings it right back in key again. Still blows my mind after more than 40 years.

  • i cant see how people sitting and watch hendrix with no emotions

  • i dont know if u checked it, but this are not much notes he's playing and it sounds GREAT

  • that one person that hates this can go to hell

  • Can't beleive how clkose everyone is to the stage....go to something in the UK these days and there's no way you can get that close.

  • all the hippies were like "Our Jam!"

  • wtf is he doing while he's playing the solo...OH MY GOD

  • damn the audience did get up for purple haze but not for the mindblowing version of red house or hear my train a coming... i guess they really didnt realize hes music skills

  • freaky audience :D

  • wherre did you find this video?? didnt know there was a video of this....

  • Amazingly awesome, as usual. It's so great to know the music of Jimi.

  • clapton, the beatles, the who, and a bunch of others in the audience. classic!

  • i love that guy at the very front going spas from the start

  • @19Alimber92 Thanks I checked it.. INSANE

  • chas chandler on the side next too the amps 1:13

  • back then in people would kill for this song lmfao!!!!!

  • This is the craziest Jimi footage I've ever seen.. Thank you YOUTUBE!!!!!!!

  • Youtube is the greatest website ever invented. Can you imagine trying to find this video 20 years ago?

  • @StratoBlaster420 We'd never have seen it if it weren't for those great scientists in California that invented the internet and Youtube!!!!!!!

Thank you GOD for TECHNOLOGY!!!!! HENDRIX will be immortalized even more now, not just studio, but lost live tapes!!!!

  • @StratoBlaster420 Facebook can suck it lol :D

  • @StratoBlaster420 Unfortunately stuff like this is getting harder to find as greedy copyright holders force youtube to remove it. Try finding a decent version of Villanova Junction at Woodstock these days. Used to be dozens of them, now mostly doofus's with guitars doing cover versions, or the original over still photos.

  • @paulybxxxxxxxxxxxxxx yeah I agree, that greedy copyright holder is usually Sony Music Corporation

  • @StratoBlaster420

sonys cool they made the new hendrix album, they have a thing against bootleg, its like someones stealing shit u made man, im not a stick for it but yea i get what theyre coming from

  • @StratoBlaster420 . . . 20 years ago? Let's get old school and say 30 years ago. I say no. I'm glad YT is in the house though!

  • @StratoBlaster420 I agree. Youtube is the best for finding older and/or more obscure music and music videos.

  • @StratoBlaster420 i don't want to like your comment cuz you have 69 likes. perfect number for this video. so i'll just tell you. liked what you said. couldn't agree more

  • @itsmyturn Haha 69 is my favorite number second only to 420. Thanks for the positivity man, stay groovy.

  • love it nice
