  • how do they make colours??

  • @pittkid42 neon food coloring.

  • Lawl, the next video is "Is it a Good Idea to Microwave This? #32 Glow Sticks" XD

Anyway, thanks, and just out of curiosity, what happens if you put the two chemicals into water without the plastic cover?

  • wew. thanks

  • there is a band called evanescence !

  • Hey i have a question...

If glow sticks have different colour. does the vial carry it or the other stuff?

  • @ahsirhc : The color depends on what fluorecent dye is used, this dye is contained in the liquid with the phenyl oxalate. I think blue sticks use 9,10-diphenylanthracene as the dye. If the doctor is correct, the dye would be outside the vial in the brand she is dissecting, but this may depend on the manufacturer, Cyalume has the dye/oxalate inside the vial and peroxide outside. It may have been better for a demo to open a stick with a dye more visible in daylight like green or orange.

  • why is it dangerous to put on your hands?

  • @CookieOnMyShoulder sometimes people have delicate skin so u can get skin cancer if u put it on ur ski so that is y

  • is there a way to make it glow again?

  • watch nurdrage they make glowsticks also show how

  • My brother once broke a glow stick by bending it too much and the chemicals spurted out as if under pressure. Could you explain this? Was it under pressure in there?

  • "It's that time of year again..."

    Yes. A RAVE.

  • @boulehead hell yea

  • @boulehead RAVING SEASON!!!!!!

it only comes once a year ya know!

  • We did this on science week.

As well as an egg drop.

  • Nice, but i would have added the chemical reaction formula and shown the end of the reaction comparison.

  • ive gotten glowstick juice in my eye, and that shit burns!

  • hey wht if we bracke them and mix them together then we add them into water the liquid into water?? will it still glow??

  • By diluting it, it will no longer glow :(

  • where can i get phenyl oxalate ester plz tell me where u can get that

  • In the glow stick tube or you might be able to order bottles online or something.

  • Supernova23976, it will actually last longer but won't be as bright.

  • your better than my science teacher

  • Thanks.

  • in raves glow stick...liquidness stuff gets all over people xD blue and green was all over me xD

  • So if i was to mix these chemicals and put it in a freezer will it still glow??or just completly stop because of not inof heat?

  • You won't be able to get it to completely stop, as that would require your freezer to be able to reach absolute zero (about −273.15°C). However, you would be able to get it to almost stop at typical freezer temperature because the atoms would be moving slowly, so they cover a smaller area in a greater amount of time meaning a lower chance of each element colliding and as such a much slower reaction and a much duller glow (probably unnoticeable). If you reheat it not too long after, it will live!

  • Very good. My son asks "Are you a real scientist?"

  • Yes, Ph.D. Science Education Consultant. All degrees in Science. Thanks for watching.

  • Thanks - my son is seven, I think he just wondered because of the fun presentation, with the Hallowe'en stuff all about :-)

Tomorrow I am having a science day with him so I suspect we shall be back to watch some more.

  • Good for you, exploring science with your child "Family Science".

  • Thanks, so far, we've made a magnet and measured the circumference of our trees to work out their approximate age...

  • Ehh it's good, but you don't need to repeat yourself 4 times

  • mountain dew man is right the one that made make mountain dew glow peroxide or something

  • daz cul

  • Comment removed

  • are the chemicals as dangerous to the skin even when the glow dies out.

  • lol i drank that for like a year ago and i feel just fine xD

  • Probably.

  • A bit repetitive, but very informative. Also gave me an idea of what to do when there's a power outage. Just put a glowstick in some cold water and read a book. :>

  • pretty cool!

  • isnt phenyl oxalate ester a concentrated chemical derived from a specie of seaweed that glows?

    thats what i heard

  • Free glowsticks =D

  • Cool Video! I have a quastion. If i take the liquid out and mix it to glow. Can i combine it with water. I would like to paint the road with water that is going to freeze on the road.

  • I would just pour the material on the road. Keep in mind the material can burn the skin, you are also adding chemicals to the environment.

  • @algancon why does it fucking matter

  • Thanks for the great demo, Dr. Diana. Your video is very informative.

  • Thanks for the comment and watching luminolblue.

  • Very nice video, Thank you very much!!

    very educational.

  • Thanks, maxiz1

  • i have always wondered how it worked. good sutff Drdiana..

  • Thanks for your vids. I try to show them to my boys.

  • Thanks flatsignedbooks, hope they enjoy them.

  • Those were FUN experiments! Thank you for conducting these experiments.

  • Thanks, glad you liked it.

  • wow thats pretty cool!

  • Fascinating.

  • Thanks for watching.

  • Rory, thanks for watching and commenting.

  • WoW thanks for this vid Diana, I have always wondered how these do this... i knew it was a chemical reaction but the rest is amazing.
