I accept Hinduism is about tolerance. it will accept any critical remarks, critics views but how far. if u guys just put some holy scripture modified with ur so called Independence of thought and present it in the audience with ur vision which of course showing ur sick mentality its not fine..if ur interested in history show the truth why fucking lies to gain popularity....i like Ramayana and dont want any asshole to modified it according to his/her wish
I'm not Hindu, I'm Pagan.... But... If someone wanted to make such a cool and beautiful cartoon about *my* gods, they can feel free. ;) I'll look forward to it!

Well...You know what..Rama is a historical figure in India..Even today many people believe Rama and Ramayan. How can a person who has so much reverence to Ram & Sita can keep silent on this. Why did not she make any movie on Jesus and his wife Mary Magdalene? Will the Church allow that? Why did she not making any attempt make a movie that resurrection of Jesus is nothing but a false propanganda by Church?
You can accept it because Hinduism is henotheistic—tolerant of differing views and interpretations of stories. How many 100's of interpretations of this tale have there been through the centuries ... some quite explicit! No insult was intended, instead the whole film is very fun. Your complaint is like saying VeggieTales is an insult to Christianity.
It is easy to compare Ram to your husband-who did something cruel to you. But for GOD's sake do not mis-interpret what Ram is. Please don't change Ram's image.
Ram followed what he was told since he was a kid- To act in the interest of his people. When Kings enjoyed in the glory of having multiple queens, Ram chose to have only one.
He could have easily married someone else after sending Sita to the ashram. But he did not.
He could have chosen to leave Sita with Ravan and get married to someone else, But he choose to go and save her.
He could have chosen to leave Sita with Ravan, But he choose to go and save her.
Hey why don't you include the part when Ram tells Sita, " Kings have been known to have many wives, but I have made a decision not to bring anyone else into my life, I make a promise to have only one wife-That is you Sita" Sita than touches Ram's feet to which Ram says , " Do not touch my feet, your place is in my heart, I will treat you as my friend not as a dasi ( Dasi was the term used to describe that women had to serve her husband). " Ram wanted to sita to be his friend not a dasi
Could not watch it beyond few minutes, the engaging colours of animation notwithstanding.
Sita as a buxom Betty Boop is the most insulting thing ever. And Rama reduced to a caricature. This does not justify entertainment. Spare us this mockery Ms.Nina Paley!
I happened to see it on TV yesterday, honestly speaking i was impressed with the art work and them.
But very very disappointed the way an Indian epic was narrated. You guys made a mockery of the entire saga..
There was a scene where ravan lusts over sita and they used such cheap language to describe her body. i feel ashamed of all indians who were involved in making a mockery of the indian epic.
You should read Abhigyanam Shakuntalam to see what language was used in the past to describe women. The language is full of seemingly lewd references, and I could not sit comfortably in my Sanskrit class during the lectures. But I accept it, because there is no license on an artist's imagination in our culture.
The beauty and strength of Hinduism lies in the fact that we "humanize" our gods. Our god is not like Christian or Islamic god who do not have hands or feet. They are good gods too.
Our gods are humanized, they study like us, fight like us, enjoy like us, and when separated from their spouses they cry like us. That is Hinduism.
Also, Hinduism provides freedom of analysis, interpretation and artistic expression. That's why khajuraho's seeming sexual idols are situated insie a "temple", and the most technical book on sex, kaamshaastra, is called a shaastra.
Your disappointment is healthy Hindu culture. Other religionists might have threatened beheading and suicide bombing.
ourselves & better ourselves in a society. VERY HEALTHY. Look at a society like Pakistan which fails to do so. Those religious zealots are so afraid of any changes & inner challenges, become full of hatred , destroying their own country by attacking their own most vulnerable & weakest of society, their own women. How sick that can be.
The movie has leaked out onto the torrent networks. Anyone who wants it and doesn't know where to look, please PM me and i'll reply with a link to the torrent page.
Also be advised that it will be released "officially" for free by nina in just a couple more weeks, in versions of various quality... and that the torrent i'm referring to is compressed rather poorly. Still, it's watchable for now.
I was priviledged to spend an afternoon with Nina Paley, when she had just started working on this film. On her drafting table was a CD of Annette Hanshaw, a forgotten pop singer from the 1920s. I was amazwed, becuse I have been a Hanshaw fan for years.
(Roger Ebert: Two Thumbs Upfor a Movie Youre Unlikey to See)
and read Roger Ebert's glorious review and his story on how the film maker is being treated poorly by greedy corporations that aren't letting her release her own movie.
Then go to her website (Ebert provides links) and lend some support there.
Additionally, the original torrent is gone... that is unacceptable, as now I can't even download the released version and see the film -- only the trailers and short clips available on youtube. If anyone still has the downlaoded version, I hope they might create a new torrent and reseed it across several public trackers...
