  • Very helpful video but it would be better without the junk music put on at every opportunity. Trust me. We're not going to look for other entertainment just because you're not playing some irrelevant track over your words of wisdom.

  • Saw this in class today! XD

  • If anyone can use after effects or some similar editing software an are any good at muzzle flash of a gun or bullet hits, let me know as we are making a movie and need an editor

  • @TerroristsAbroad

    i can edit.

  • @TerroristsAbroad

but im just begging to learn how. things i can do: sound effcts; gunshots, punches;muzzle flashes; i can hide the orange marker of the gun if you need me too; i can do explosions; cars buliding; and i can do bullet holes. i use adobe premeire elements. just email the shots, tell me what to keep and what to cut out, what explodes or shoots and where, and anything else that needs too be done.

  • @cole19981 do you have any vids up?

  • u wanna now how to make a fight scene?

    1. try to fight in slow motion and film it (don't edit it)

    2. upload the video to movie maker and speed it up

    That's all

  • you make me think of that guy from starship troopers! xD

  • the cheers thing is really annoying but its a good video

  • @zambic214 Glad the video helped. How about this?

    Best,

    The Videomaker Team

  • @videomaker thats better ;D

  • @PeaceAndLove9090 Cool! Let us know when you finish your video. We're always interested in seeing what people do with these tips.

    Cheers,

    The Videomaker Team

  • i know this dosen't have mutch to do but how to we shoot those scenes where people think were using mutiple cameras? i search for lots of videos and they said they only use one camera but they use sorth like a camera technique but how do we actually change the camera angle with the character still speaking?

thanks and sorry for the cunfusing question :b

  • @ungravitch Are you sure they're really only using one camera? Most likely they get the actor to pause while they switch camera position.

    Cheers,

    The Videomaker team

  • @videomaker Awesome! Hope you find all th egood video advice youneed :)

    Cheers,

    The Videomaker Team

  • @videomaker Thanks for the help! Made a video with the help of this tutorial.

    (It's called Building Brawl)

  • @videomaker well..yeah check out the "filmriot" videos they only use one camera but they use a technique wich they only change the camera angle when the character stops speaking lol so i guess the only way to shoot a scene where you change the camera angle where ever you want is to have 2 cameras right?

    Thanks

    Ungravitch

  • @ungravitch What?

If you want two different camera angles you shoot the scene twice. The actors act of the scene exactly the same both times you shoot it and then you edit it together. Either with a straight cut or J or L cuts.

To get the sound in sync with the picture you use a clapper board at the start of each take so you can line the sound of the clap with the picture.

  • @Bankiedrummer nice thank you so mutch, you helped me alot believe it

    chears

  • @ungravitch man this is a very good question and I'm puzzled with this. But there's still no good answer :(

  • @ungravitch what they do is they just shoot the things three times from different angles, and just merge the angles together in editing

  • @ChickenHuntin13 cool thank you so mutch ^^

  • I subscribed because I really need help with my videos man!

  • @TheInsaneVlogs Hope you find what you need!

    Cheers,

    The Videomaker Team

  • thank you SO much

  • @heavenlybarrel Glad to help!

    Cheers,

    The Videomaker Team

  • great in fo thank you

  • @dirtyblondd1 Glad it helped!

    cheers,

    The Videomaker Team

  • Is it possible to make a fight scene which really DOES hits but taken in slow pace. So, the editor can speeds up the vid to make it somehow "hard hit"?

  • @andretatontos It is, though it takes some more practice to make sure the hits look real when the audience sees them. The main difficulty in doing that on a budget is that it might be hard to simulate the weighty impact of a hard hit without some more advanced special effects. You can find out more if you post your question on the Videomaker forums at Videomaker (dot) com.

  • this was soooo much help!! i was wondering if it is the same thing with sword fitting and hand-to-hand combat...is it?

  • @foofiegeorgewilbur Fighting with swords requires a little more planning since you need to know how to handle the "weapons" realistically, but the basic principles still hold.

    Cheers,

    The Videomaker Team

  • @videomaker thank you for the help!!!

  • @foofiegeorgewilbur No problem!

    Cheers,

    The Videomaker team

  • I came up with this : /watch?v=85JSsikO3YA

First try , let me know what you think =)

  • @SkateboardFood Excellent work! Would you mind if we reposted this video to our Facebook page (with credit to you, of course)? We like to draw attention to videos that demonstrate how to use these techniques. Also, you're not filming in Berlin by any chance, are you? Those buildings look familiar XD

    Cheers,

    The Videomaker Team

  • @videomaker Thank you !, and sure you can post the video on your facebook, no problem !

And no this is filmed in Holland :P

  • @SkateboardFood Cool, I posted a link on Facebook, so hopefully more people will see your video. Nice work!

Holland, huh? Well, I was only a country off XD

  • @videomaker Hey me and my friend started making films with a camera can you check out our latest video on our channel? That was made with a crappy camera, but we lately just made a camera crew and are going to make our second and third films with the CANON t1i cameras. • @MultiMiniFilms Really good work! Tthe only crit that immediately springs to mind is that a couple angles were slightly off so that it was possible to tell that punches didn't connect. Otherwise, very nice use of fight scene techniques and some impressive backflips! Would you mind if we reposted this video to our Facebook page (with credit to you, of course)? It might help to get some more expert eyes to see your video and give feedback

  • i'm gonna shooting an action fight/chase scene tomorrow and will definitely use some of these techniques... it's gonna be awesome :D

  • @TheKirkYates Awesome, good luck!

    Cheers,

    The Videomaker Team

  • @videomaker it came out awesome i can't wait to finish the rest of the movie

  • @igidopro why are you yelling, with all caps on?

  • get better cam than 240p

  • @igidopro that's a terrible thing to say, just because some one lives in Africa it doesn't mean they're poor, there are a lot of rich people there too. you obviously haven't seen Africa, and you obviously aren't African. "Mate" ?

  • You can this! :)

  • yes you can see my short films on my you tube channel KALIWOODSTUDIOS one film is titled "Challenge of the Baddest" the other is "The Hitman" and the first one I ever made was originally shot on super 8 movie film titled "Death of a Dragon"

  • Great info I used some of these elements in a few short films I made... Challenge of the Baddest, The Hitman and Death of a Dragon

  • @KALIWOODSTUDIOS Awesome! Do you have clips of your fight scenes on YouTube? If you like a little extra publicity, we sometimes like to share examples of these lessons in action to help people understand how they might look in a finished video.

  • @videomaker yes you can see my short films on my you tube channel KALIWOODSTUDIOS one film is titled "Challenge of the Baddest" the other is "The Hitman" and the first one I ever made was originally shot on super 8 movie film titled "Death of a Dragon"

  • Wht movie was tht wiff sean scott w.(stiffler)

  • 0:53 , hah xD Steve Stifler!!!!

  • mmmmm Gun powder! XD

  • some when i edit my video the editor makes the qyality poor

  • 1990's?

  • Or you just have you and your friends man up and then take the real hits

  • I've only seen one kind of fight scene not look like crap when the attacker is directly facing the camera, and that's a gun fight. if it's a hand to hand fight scene, having the actor "attack the camera" look really cheep and is an obvious sign of poor stage fighting skills.

  • for fact, in hong kong film, martial artist do real contact.

  • I love it, very informative. Thanks.

  • was this video made in the 90's? :P

  • @TheFilmProducers You have to pay for their tutorials, but not for the tips & tricks. This is a tips & tricks video.

  • @Altonahk but anyways, it doesn't make sense :P

  • what kind of camera would be great for a shooting just one scene?

  • LOL 2:24 "By shitting this way..."

  • With a name like Videomaker it doesn't say a lot about your magazine or company given the poor ass video quality. And by the way, the editing in the video is horrible, bad timings and the action looks weak. Something to be said about your level of standards.

  • who here was too busy watching the guys fight than actually listenning to the tutorial?

  • zomg batman begins <3

btw, it kinda felt longer than a 5 n a half minutes video o.O

  • Great tutorial, much thanks for uploading it. :)

  • how exactly does a fight scene constitute as storytelling?

  • NIce .. thanks a lot ~~~

  • @igidopro lololol africas a myth

  • this really shed some light into the shooting for emotion

  • @igidopro

HD versions of all our tips are available on our website. Cheers.

  • This is a nice instructional video... very helpful

  • This was a fantastic mini-tutorial! I was so delighted to find it - you guys are really talented, and excellent at explaining concepts.

  • @fightdesigner Look at the title.

"how to shoot a fight scene" Not how to block/perform/script/act it.

  • Why not download the videos and upload it here in higher quality?

  • Nice tut, but why did you put this in lower quality? SO you can make a profit for a better cquality vid?

  • Didn't get the "editing for emotion" part that much, but I think that will do

  • 1:17 RUSH HOUR 3!!!!! AWESOME!!!!

  • i think micheal bay really needs to see this

  • THANKS ALOT i love your videos

  • @jisbis435 a lot*

  • HD versions of all our videos are available for download on our website (link is listed in description). Cheers.

  • ooh... I saw the links but did not read the text :P

    sorry

  • I got to pay for it? why?

    :(

  • Go to our site and and click on the video tab. You can stream all of our videos at a higher quality for free. Cheers.

  • no, its good that its low quality cuz it loads fast and for your type of videos you dont need ultra high quality to get the message :->

  • @videomaker It appears no one reads descriptions anymore

  • very helpful! gives me a few ideas...

  • This tutorial helped a lot! Thanks a lot for all the great tips, they worked great when we tried them.

  • Cool! I did a short "fight scene" with my little cousin for his birthday, and I did EVERYTHING you just talked about!

PLEASE watch it and tell me what you think??

  • SaikoFilms posted a video response (above) that is a great example of the techniques covered here. The skillful dramatic editing helps balance out some unconvincing (but cute) acting. Ya'll should check it out!

  • Lol. Thanks! It was really hard to get him to keep a straight face during filming. Kids are tough to direct. :)

  • As Always, I have learned something from you guys....thanks

  • lol... violently oi. I have enough of this one. great job Videomaker, thx for the tips. Useful as always

  • Nice work, the tutorials like this one are the best.

  • Yes of course, because what I have said above is completely moronic and has no justification, and you know oh-so-well about me and the full extent of my abilities from reading about 3 comments and perhaps checking out my profile page and selectively watching my videos.

    Congratulations for being so intuitive.

  • You are correct, you're prevoius comments are completly moronic and pointless. I didn't bother viewing your profile, fo rit would be a waste of anybody's time. The fact that I beleive you can do a better job than these better is why you would do a shitty job. They did a fantastic job, and any attempt by you would be pathetic in comparison.

    Also, your sarcasm is terrible.

  • "I have no real evidence for anything, but I'm right"

  • The evidence of your stupidity is in all these comments

  • The evidence of your lack of triumph is in that comment.

  • rhysie21's videos are really good, and all of his fight scenes are very well executed, you should watch them

  • Wow, thank you.

  • nice tutorial, but god the quality sucked like hell!

  • An HD version of this tutorial is available at our website. The link is posted at the end of the description to this video (top right). Cheers!

  • why didn't you just upload the HD version? Since youtube accepts HD now. Even if it's not 720p.

I've uploaded test of full 1080p, and HDV 1080. They all work with youtube's HD feature.

  • Because they get more money from advertisements on their website, and they want to attract people to buy their products that are on their website.

  • hahaha, you guys are hilarious. those two in the background, i can't stop laughing. i've learned some more video secrets, thanks guys.

  • High quality plz?

  • it also helps if u have a long lens when shooting fight scenes to make it look like the fists r closer to the face

  • THANKS FOR THE INPUT

  • These guys are horrible at fights. Proper stunt performers and fight doubles can go about 4cm away from hitting the person, get the right timing and use proper technique.

There is far more to it then just '"move your head when it gets close". You have to use the right facial pulls and use the right angles of hits to make it look truly convincing.

There is a reason why they have trained in martial arts beforehand. You have to remember that the hits are PUSHING the person. Not a mystical force.

  • yeah, and the guy getting punched didn't sell the impact feeling

  • Obviously these guys aren't stunt performers. They are even introduced as IT and Graphic Design guys... so you are really complaining for no reason. And these videos aren't being shoot to educate Hollywood stunt people, they are for beginners... IDIOT!

  • No shit. That's the thing though, a beginner shouldn't teach beginners.

  • They aren't teaching us how to act out the fight scene though, thier teaching us how to shoot one, so the fact that they aren't great actors has no merit

  • Yes but these newbies are going to copy the fight style too. It's rare to find a fight scene tutorial that teaches specifically how to perform them.

Perhaps I should fulfill that role?

  • ya dude, you're 16... this is about how to shoot, that's why it's called shooting action-not how to act. Only YOU would be so naive that you'd take the punching and kicking seriously.... go watch some jet li & prove to your friends how tough you are. This is about education in video production

  • Ya dude, you're violently insulting a 16 year old... obviously this is how to SHOOT the scene, but it's not exactly helping the viewers (who would most likely be in my age group if they didn't know this sort of thing already) if they can't see how to properly fulfill the whole role.

The people who are going to SHOOT these scenes are likely to be the ones producing and directing them, too.

This video is only giving ONE way of making a fight doing it too. This video is JUST for perspectives.

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • then you are in the wrong arena

  • Great Jobe explaining it, now what if the action takes place in a 16x16 area and you only have one chance to get the shot???

  • I dig this one! Great job Videomaker

  • Nice - well explained

  • go look at indymoguls fight scene tutorial. its way better

  • Yeah West Haven Brook has some of the best fight seens!

  • Agreed.

  • hell yea

  • have you seen there new trailer to "Danger Element?" It looks like their best fight scene yet!

  • you got a link to that video?

  • omfg plz go more in depth have a part 2 cause this was really helpful i was lookin for sumthin like this!!!

  • This is the first of our "Action" series. Stay tuned for more in the upcoming weeks!
