@jmfm00009 Mine is about 7 he is about 20cm long and still has a bit of growing to do. They get about the size of a tiny dinner plate (like ones for kids). Mine has a tortoise table 7 foot long by 3 foot wide and 1 and a half foot tall.

my two hermann tortoise get up between 7:30-8:30 and go to sleep about 4:30 to 5:00..play around.

@tortoise9496 Lights and heat should be on 12 - 14 hours a day.. meaning the tortoise should be awake in that time usually. I've never heard of one going to sleep (and staying asleep, not just a nap) so early.

m8 who wants to now if boy or girl u cant realy tell when its young but when it gets older you can tell because the tail is shorter for a male and round the bottom of the sheel if you count the lines its apparently how old it is or you can look at its birth sheets if you have any

Generally if you go to a breeder/professional they should be able to tell the sex after about 5 yrs old or maybe even earlier. I think after they get longer than 4 inches they can tell the sex if they know what they are doing. Another way is x-ray but that might be a bit mean. They should know how old they are by breed and size.

Hi,

Take a look at the Tortose trust website.

In essence, they should be fed what could be found in an area of Mediterranean scrub.

Certainly no tomato, cucumber, "crunchy" lettuce, and no pelleted food.

Mainly weeds please!

In a fish tank encloser? If so what do you put in it and what do you feed them?? And what about temperatures an hibernation?

right one thing is, make sure the lamp you get for it is hot enough for it because when i had my tortoise it came with a 60w lamp which the petshop gave us for free, it wasnt making the tortoise eat, so it went into hibernation on a empty stomach, then we saved him with a 150W lamp, after about 10 mins of putting this lamp in, he was stuffin his face full of food lol =)

don't get a tank it's too humid for them! a tortoise table is best as it is good for ventilation (they're cheap too!) make sure you have a basking lamp, uva and b lamp and somewhere for him to hide! feed them dark leafy veg like dandilions. please research!

Not easy, but once everything is set up the place for it to live and the lighting and you know what to feed because some things are not good for them and they need certain foods and calcium, vitamin and mineral supplements, but once you know all the information and learn about how to hibernate them too, then they are fairly easy to look after but you really need to know all the information first or your turtle could die.

:) nice tortoise, I have another herman's aswell,. one point of advice get him some "Reptavite" which is a supplement you put onto his food, which gives him all the nutrients and vitamins he needs'.

I watched your turtle video with (crazy guitar) Dragonforce music and totally cracked up. It was soo cute and innocent eating its lettuce and it was all intense with the music. Anywho I'm getting one of these tortoises (hermann's) on sunday. Great (If not a little pointless) video.
