  • I know he would have never listened to him in the first place ,

but I would love to have seen Hitch rip Deepak to shreds with 2 sentences .

  • Deepak Chopra is just a clown, you could sell tickets to sceptics just to watch him fall on his face.

  • 1:34 I'd add that it's also impossible for a bolt of lightning to come into being but from the hand of a god.

  • That woman is not there to debate, she seems to be there just to talk about ppl she met in her life. Pointless. Deepak is probably more stupid, but at least he's trying lol.

  • Shermer watches Jean with the same eyes you would use when watching a kid failing to tie his first knot.

  • ...learning history through dancing? LOL

  • I disagree with her completely...children are very stupid...

Also, I want to stick my head in a microwave everytime she opens that place her foot rests.

  • Someone gag that woman

  • Jean= Mother Goose

  • What kind of drugs is Jean on?

  • Holy non-existent Christ, what the fuck is Jean talking about, and in what non-local dimension of consciousness does it in any way correspond with what everyone else is talking about!? And fucking shut up about your fucking anecdotes, you insanely narcissistic cow! Holy shit, she's intolerable, just utterly emblematic of everything that can go wrong with the liberal arts.

  • Jean... What. The. Fuck.

  • I think they keep clapping, just for ending.

  • 2:51 Jean: "I'd like to talk about this..."

    Sam: "Bitch, please."

  • Thank you for posting this, AtheistMediaBlog.

  • Cat lady stops at 7:42. Where is Al Bundy when you need him?

  • I hate her! Why won't she fuckin die!

  • That woman.... just what the ¤&¤6/&%# is she talking about? I seriously can't understand anything she's saying. And yes, my ability to understand spoken english is very good.

  • what-the-fuck is she talking about...

  • I think a good person to bring into the debate is a brain surgeon, to tell depak that there can be no consciousness, as far as we know it, without a brain. And to demonstrate this, offer Depak a free brain removal surgery for himself. That just might get him to shut up with his psuedoscience Bs.

  • I read the first comment and was like, "I'm going to sit through the whole video listening to Jean," and I made it like 20 seconds...fucking painful

  • the only problem with jean is that she doesn't belong in a debate because she agrees with all three of them. She is simply an anthropologist who find relation between al philosophy. I dont think she cares about god as much as the human experience.

  • I love how every time Jean opens her mouth no one even hesitates and just keeps talking, especially Harris (<3)

  • @AristotlEYE wtf is Jean even TALKING about? Is she listening to the rest of the debate?

  • I have to defend Jean. She makes just as little sense as Deepak, but without the insistent arrogance and obvious disrespect for the other side.

  • i dont really understand what jean is talking about... what did she really bring to the discussion?

  • Jean = overeducated to the point of stupidity. Dear Cthulhu, what is she gibbering about?

  • Fucking jean.

  • anthromoporphic.

  • What the hell is this woman talking about.

  • 2:43: "I'm just offering a possible hypothesis.." he's not even sure if it's a hypothesis!

  • I understand the deepak and jean

  • Read chopras books.. they are amazing

  • I actually tried to listen to Jean Houston but failed.

  • How the fuck did Cheapak make so much fucking money?

  • @sameer137 Pornography.

  • @sameer137 O-P-R-A-H.

  • Why do I feel shame when I listen to Jean?

  • Who is this Jean women.... I thought Deepak talked waffle.... but I haven't got a clue what she's on about.

  • blah blah blah. what the hell is she yapping about?

  • More comments about jean plox...I'm reading them while she talks.

  • What confuses the shit out of me is how anyone in the audience can clap after Jean speaks. I don't get 80% of what comes out of her mouth.

  • @NateKirch I think your average is high.

  • @RagingBullFan25 Fair enough. Let me rephrase that. I feel that about 80% of what Jean says doesn't pertain to the conversation the rest of the panel is having.

  • jean's stories mean nothing and deepak's ideas are without credibility..they take nothing into consideration but their own ideas

  • Wow Jean just keeps rambling about nothing. She is clearly out of her league.

  • "I want to hear from Jean" Well, you're the only one, pal.

  • "antromoporphic" lol

  • woo woo

  • Funniest debate I have ever seen.

  • jean just spews non stop bullshit, she makes deepak sound coherent and logical

  • @nubl37 LOL.. i was thinking it was the other way around.... but its anyone's guess

  • @test123ok i understand what deepak is saying though, even if its nonsense wishful-thinking without a shred of evidence at least it makes sense on some level, jean is just away with the fairies

  • @nubl37 step back for a sec, so your saying you would take to light nonsense wishful thinking ?

  • @9058588583 your question is about as coherent as jean's ramblings, what do you mean

  • @nubl37 to be transparent - on what level does nonsense wishful thinking without evidence come into play against deinfite answers ?

  • @9058588583 sam harris acknowledged that deepak at least said some "concrete things" that neuroscience could potentially address, contrast this with jean who said nothing coherent enough to even be amenable to a verbal response and you might understand my original point

  • @nubl37 "Deepak presents with severe symptomatic manifestation of verbal diarrhea. His underlying disease is probably mysticism; his perceived non-duality with the externalized universe has rendered him indistinguishable? from a parrot"BlahLalaification i think we may be confused here i don't think there is anyone that believes what comes out of jean's mouth is fathomable you still haven't answered my question - you said nonsense wishful thinking - please describe what you mean ?

  • @nubl37 I don't think anyone can make him sound that way, but she comes really close. They're both complete dumbshits.

  • Jean...STFU!!!!!

  • Deepak just keeps talking nonsense. He puts in scientific phrases into speeches of stupid things, but that is what he does.

And the woman opens her mouth and I facepalm.

  • The eyes of the soul speak in an inconsistent voice, Deepak!

  • @sonykrocket Nah, I've always been a good person. I need God simply for the purpose of exploring things that I can't measure physically. God is an alternative perspective that has no physical boundaries. Whether or not he "exist" is irrelevant to the fact that if I try to see as God sees, then my perspective slowly sheds these physical boundaries thus opening you mind to explore the intangible rather than dismiss it due to "lack of data". God is simply a way for us to explore more of ourselves.

  • @Kratos89115

You were yapping a lot but never made it a reply

You smell like the reli-mob does

  • This science that we hold so dear to us...when did we forget that it came from our spirit; our need to know more. The converse is true, for without observation by scientific means the spirit would stagnate and cling rigidly to our flawed theologies of the past. Neither side disproves the other because they cannot exist independently. God is real. Science is true. Deepak did not get "schooled". Sam did not grow any more enlightened. Our inner God is losing hope for us, empirically and spiritually

  • @Kratos89115

So you need a god to be a good person?

I dont know about you but that sounds more dangerous than you might think

  • Did anyone else fast-forward through just about everything Jean says? And who is she and why is she sharing a stage with Sam Harris and Michael Shermer? That looks pretty good on her CV, not so good on theirs.

It's great to finally see someone tell Chopra straight to his face, in public, that he's just full of crap! Hilarious to watch that ignorant windbag get indignant when he's called on the gobbledygook he spouts.

  • Jean and Deepak get destroyed and owned by logic. Why is Deepak and Jean even on the stage...they have little if anything pertinent to say about the future of god at all.

  • So much of what Jean says is from a past story.

  • "Anthro-mo-porfic". Deepak Shakur is hilarious.

  • JEAN IS THE MAN!!

    no seriously, she's a man.

  • @sylviabombs15 :)) I would not be the least bit surprised.

  • Sam owned deepak ..hahahaha...

  • Broad is WAY out of her league.

  • Jean honey, OK.......... now please shut up!

  • Jean's train of thought has some amazing off-road capabilities. Acid ate the track?

  • WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT WOMAN TALKING ABOUT!!

  • thumbs up if you cringed so much at jean you skipped the parts where she was speaking

  • @tsarenvy I am turning in my vagina and getting on the waiting list for a dick. WISH ME LUCK! :-)

  • consciousness is a demonstrably emergent property of the brain

    done, debate over

  • @tsarenvy

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! The Sun rotates around the earth, go outside and look. Demonstrated, done, debate over.

  • @circusOFprecision copernicus went outside and looked too

dont conflate/straw man 'everday observer demonstrable' with 'scientific method demonstrable'

  • @tsarenvy

My point was that we see patterns in the brain and think we have an explanation for what it is to have a conscious experience, or what an experience is. But that is not the case. You can't dig into my brain and find my experience, or the instantaneous intention that I exercise to make a choice. We have functional correlations, not explanations. Now go back and ponder my first comment, although somewhat crude, it was an analogy of this problem none the less.

  • @circusOFprecision

consciousness is enamored with itself and we place significance on our experience over a bricks - but the distinction between us and a brick as sovereign entities is something we attribute

are you saying that consciousness is non material? if so what makes you say that?

and there have been experiments done in the last few years that do get at the root of our intentions and decision making

  • @tsarenvy

They did an experiment where they activated the part of the brain that controls the raising of the right hand. The individuals that experienced this did not like this, they felt invaded and knew they had not willfully raised their hand. Think about it, and let me know how this relates to the experiments you are referring to.

  • @circusOFprecision whats to think about? if someone has an asthmatic fit its not because they choose to out of their own volition

the experiments i was talking about were done at the max planck institute, t was observed that decisions were made by the brain before the agent became conscious of them in a basic 'pick red or blue' type tests

i genuinely dont know what youre asking me to think about and i dont really know what your position is, do you think that consciousness is non material?

  • And once again Deepak makes only assertions.

  • "Molecules don't feel compassion".

Oh really? Well molecules don't feel pain either, but when they form a nervous system they do.

  • OMFG! What's going on with Mr. Deepak's flashy, vanity driven EYE GLASSES! LMFAO! ;-)

  • Jean only talks in anecdotes... plain crap.

  • Jean never met a stupid child, because every child is much more intelligent than her.

  • @HeilLoki haha, i would second that motion

  • I've met a stupid child multiple times.

  • Interviewer: Do you believe in god, Jean?

Jean: I think children should be taught through art and drama.

Interviewer: Can you explain your idea about god?

Jean: When I was a child, I met a man.

Interviewer: Do you accept Deepak's description of god?

    Jean: Ground of being.

    Interviewer: FOR FUCK'S SAKE!!!!

  • "anthromoporphic" hahahahahaha oh man, Deepak's credibility is inversely related to how much he talks.

  • she's reached the pinnacle of absolute irrelevance you can't even satirise Jean!!! she's a parody of herself!! what a cringe fest!

  • Sam Harris at 3:31 - sums up the whole debate

  • Fuckin dumbass hag with her childworship-crap.

She's never seen a stupid child eh? Guess she never visits schools then

  • gene simmons from Kiss without the make up

  • Damn why the hell does that guy keep wanting to hear what Jean has to say?!?

She is so irrelevant to this debate...

  • @Hollander113 he does it to be fair.

  • @Rogersmith026

Fair to whom? Re-watch the debate and notice every time she opens her mouth she goes on a wild spree of complete irrelevant bullshit. Still for some reason the moderator keeps bringing her back in to it, disrupting any chance of this debate forming any kind of coherence! Just read the goddamn other posts and you will find twenty thousand other people posting the same goddamn complaint as me! Which begs the question, why the hell do you bother me with this irrelevant answer?

  • This woman is using charismatic story telling, name dropping, bad accents and attempting to create good sound bites (as well as the normal misuse of scientific jargon) to make her ridiculously wandering statements sound more valid.

    Ugh.

  • Deepak is so rude! It is a shame!

  • Doesn't she feel like a silly ass speaking with fake accents when she quotes people from other countries?

  • the lady makes sense in her own conversation, but she needs to join the rest.

  • zzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • It's funny that the rationalists don't understand what the post-rationalists are saying, so they have to resort to insults inorder to protect their intellectual identities.

  • @teamhumanity what's a post rationalist? Depak Chopra?

  • #1 rebuttle of Sam Harris to Deepak...."That's simply not true."

  • And, by the way... William Blake? Really... that's what those two morons had to resort to... Hey Deepak! Blake died in 1827... And, he wasn't a scientist.

  • Also... on the record.. I'm an Atheist

  • The best explanation for our interconnected relationship with the cosmos is the following: we have found DNA in meteorites.. And testing revealed adenine and guanine were present which are the two FUNDAMENTAL components of DNA called nucleobases. Specifically, CM2 meteorites. So, Yes we are connected with our cosmos scientifically, but to say some intelligent-being has done this? Well, you need empirical evidence to push for that Mr. Chopra, and you did not provide that. This life is it.

  • @imita01 Mr. Chopra did not even imply that an inner being did this.

  • @itsmedontusee I mean intelligent being

  • @itsmedontusee WuWu is WuWu.

  • Note to fellow viewers.. When Jean Houston starts talking. Fast forward till she is done.

  • "I want to hear what Jean has to say" - I think that he was probably the only one.

My grandmother was like her when she started to loose the plot at little; in love with her own stories and life and making little sense - at the time I thought "good for her" but when you're on stage it's not so good for everyone else....

  • I think shermer's face at 6:52 describes how everyone feels about jean >.<

  • the more i watch these videos, the more i think deepak chopra is a pompous arrogant douchebag, with absolutely no knowledge to grant him such behavior.

  • I'm just offering a possible hypothesis = i'm pulling shit out of my ass

  • Did someone notice that every time Jean Houston opens her mouth, the facial expression of Micheal Shermer cannot hide a sense of disgust at the nonsensical crap coming out of it? I get Sam Harris being on stage with Michael Sherman and even Deepak Chopra, but who invited her and why? Deepak Chopra is essentially trying to validate Hinduism through Quantummechanics, which is a noble effort but unfortunately failing miserably. He should get a degree in physics first before trying another attempt.

  • her anecdotes are worthless

  • This crowd is obviously lost.. What lets me know this is they actually clap during old granny's ramblings

  • @outlaw87100 it's even worse, they're clapping at allmost everything...

  • Here is what Searle says about the consciousness and its relationship to the brain: "Given a choice between the facts as we know them-consciousness exists, it is caused by neuronal processes, it exists in the brain, and it has causal functions in the life of an organism-and various philosophical theories, I will take the facts any time." (John Searle, "Biological Naturalism", The Blackwell Companion to Consciousness, p. 334)

  • John Searle DOES NOT say it is impossible for a physical system to process meaning as Chopra says. Chopra is confusing Searle's claim that the formal manipulation of symbols is not sufficient for meaning (i.e. the Chinese room argument) with his views on the mind/brain relationship (continued below).

  • "The skeptics are ruining creativity" arguments is so poor. Opeth, all atheists and who have talked about skepticism, have produced some of the most amazing creative work in music for years. Lets compare that to Christian bands of the last 50 years.

  • WTF is "Antromoporphic" ? 3:08 Is it Deepaks Dyslexia?

  • ooh go hug a tree lady

  • Both sam harris and deepak chopra are projecting the reality in different perceptive..deepak is trying to emphasize to discover oneself through consiousness which would be difficult for most of the people to understand. Sam reaches the world with the language which he think is easy for the people to understand. i thinks sam fears against the fact that most probably people find it difficult to differentiate discovering conciousness with religion and is most likely to abhor it.

  • Yes, yes, my friends. But what IS a META...for? Game, set and match. Suck it, Socrates.

  • everyone is just sitting there wondering what the fuck she's talking about. they're just staring at her; blank, bewildered.

  • save yourself a few wasted minutes of your life and skip the woman

  • I believe that if they had both had six drinks in the past hour Michael and Sam would have still won this easily. It's just so easy for them.

  • Tonight:

Sam Harris and Michael Shermer vs. Deepak Chopra

.....and interrupting gibberish of Jean Houston

  • @esc0barrr lol, agreed, although in the interests of complete fairness she said a few sort of worthwhile thoughts in a fairly attractive way. it just wasn't particularly relevant.

  • @esc0barrr Featuring an impressive array of incredibly accurate accents. All completely different.

  • Comment removed

  • Please somebody, anybody, shut her up!

  • Oh god, that annoying woman is talking gibberish once more

  • If Deepak is an example of Indian science, then gawd help india

  • Wrong Deepak. Google JUST designed a computer which can actually measure its performance in response to its purpose.

  • After watching this whole debate I've come to one conclusion

    Michael = Logic

    Sam = Reason

    Depak = Woo Woo

    Jean = Zzzzzzz

  • When I hear a person saying that math is "one of the biggest mysteries of the universe" I can fully understand how decent education is the ultimate solution for these lots of "The Secret" and other science exploitation bullshit that come up every year. I can even picture a person who didn't have access to decent education thinking in front of the TV "Oh! So that's why I never got that math stuff! It's miracle, just like magnets!".

  • omg dingbat horse shit!

  • Jean is not even addressing the topic being discussed. She's just espousing some new-age hippie bullshit. Her words are so incoherent it almost seems like word salad or schizophrenia.

  • "that's why William Blake was not a great scientist" ha ha ha 

  • Jean is wrong, children can be incredibly stupid. Why does a toddler insist on trying to drink shampoo, why does a child insist on trying to stick pills in their nose, why does a child walk straight into a mirror, why does a child insist on trying to jump off the couch, why do they insist on denying nap time. I LOVE nap time.

  • @MarthamadaySaamanu Absolutely right. You have wisely chosen not to believe in science or logic or anything rational. It seems in your viewpoint that the world would be a better place if only it were devoid of scientists and rationalists. And well, you not understanding chopra is no big deal. No one ever does.

  • There questions Science and Mathematics cannot answer. If someone else answers them, Sherman calls it 'hoohoo'.

Just because it does not make rational sense, does not mean I should not believe in it. And just because I believe in something does not mean it should make sense rationally.

Deepak is a genius. Geniuses are never understood in their own time!!

I have never understood him, but I love his style of debate. Pure Entertainment.

  • Jean "We got a problem"-Houston

  • I think Jean got stuck in an acidtrip she had in the 70s

  • 3:00 Chopra says "Antro-mo-porphic" :P Gets me every time

  • Shermer and Harris are just brilliant! Damn smart guys. Deepak gets owned man lol

  • Shermer and Harris are just brilliant! Damn smart guys.

  • yeah...I just skip the crazy lady...what pointless ramblings...

  • You can say ''that's not true'' to pretty much everything that Deepak states... as Sam Harris quite rightly does.

  • Jean is right on. The modern preference for left-hemisphere dominated education and thinking (which leads invariably to hyper-focus on the material and mechanical) is a human deficit, not advantage. Art, poetry, tactility... these are what kids thrive on and what adults need more of. I, for one, do not want humanity to evolve into a race of Spocks. Mystics don't know "God" by discursively thinking about "God".

  • @stevenhorr

What's wrong with the character Spock? At least he doesn't have the need to feel special and saved the Enterprise and it's crew many times because he was the only sane one that didn't let emotion cloud his judgement in times of need.

We could use more people like him in the flesh to battle hysterical superstitious muppets.

I always thought the Vulcans were a refreshing little bunch, they got cool starships too yo

    Ferrealz!

  • Why do they let her talk? It is like a dog hearing blah blah blah blah toby....blah blah blah blah....Its mind numbing...

  • Michael, everything you do and ppl do, every decision that you makes, depends and how you believe. Jesus is the real genius, because he preached more and only about belief mire than anyone in history.

  • Listen to michaels answer. "why should believe matter". And then he says, you should just care about how u behave. Michael, you behave depending and how you believe. Michael you are very lucky I'm bit there.

  • The two sides are both the perspectives that make us human; the scientific and the philoso-spiritual.
