  • Can't watch this without crying. It is just so beautiful for these seniors to be teaching the young ones that youth - or vitality - is in your heart, not your physical body. I belong to a vocal group, Vox Jubilante. We sing at our county jail twice a month, and the response of the men is nothing short of a miracle.

Thanks for posting this - my favorite Young at Heart song.

  • 1:22 - and some say criminals don't have a heart. HA

  • Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I was sobbing at this point of the documentary. Two groups in society that are otherwise marginalized- the elderly and the incarcerated- sharing a moment of beauty and humanity together. Wow, incredibly powerful. Thank you so much for sharing...

  • @lsoltis Me too... it was so touching!!! That and Fred Knittles Fix You at the end made me cry... but that moment is my favourite in the whole movie.

  • j'aimerai etre comme eux plus tard , avoir la meme joie de vivre. Respect =)

  • Great performance!

  • one of the greatest movie ever done! Thx for uploading especially this part

  • This is beautiful. I got chills and teary eyed. When I get older, I hope to God I can be as inspiring and strong willed as these people. They will stay forever young.

  • very touching video-seniors singing to inmates

  • does anyone know where i can find young @ heart doing "nothing compares to you?"

  • The looks on the prisoners faces says it all!

  • @mandienmike

Yup, this is moving as much because they are moved, too, as it is from the song. They see the meaning and it is beautiful.

  • i love it

  • oh my god, this did almost make me cry. what the hell is this traveling prison geriatric chorus?

  • these young lads and lasses are my true heroes. may they all stay forever young as they are now...

  • The women that sings on 2:05, sings the best! :)

  • Beautiful....very touching.

  • This is one of the most touching and inspirational things i have ever seen in my life. I watched this documentary in choir class, and these people are my heroes. I hope that when i'm in my 80's that I'll be as amazing as you guys!!

  • @soccerbell12

I saw them in concert the day before yesterday in New York's St.Ann's Warehouse. I am 46 and I brought my 16 year old daughter with me. We both cried . And laughed. And sang with them. And at one point danced with them. This was a truly most memorable performance I have ever seen. Thank you, Bob Colman and all the wonderful performers from Young @ Heart. Keep on rocking!!

  • Outstanding example of the strength of the Human Spirit of Compassion and Love.

  • @KFReid You said it.In America,we sometimes dismiss the elderly as 'useless' much of the time, and look at people in prison as nothing more than scum.We have to ask ourselves, though, what led these people to the choices they made to get into trouble? What if someone had nurtured them instead? And what are we missing out on when we don't take the opportunity to connect with people who have lived a long and fruitful life? This is really a tremendous lesson for everyone.

  • Beautiful!

  • everytime i hear this song, it's remind me of young@heart.. soo moving, it makes me cry. does anyone know of they preform in the Netherlands?

  • 2:37-2:48 is sheer magic.

  • God bless the every dear face in this video. God bless Bob Dylan.

  • is that at a jail?

  • Yes, it is a prison. The prisoners were mildly entertained by the Young at Heart chorus until this song gobsmacked them up side the head.

  • I just watched this last night on PBS. Brought tears to my eyes many times and made me really think about my own life. Thanks for sharing this.

  • I love this movie so much. It's so beautiful and touching, and sad

  • You can discover their story by watching the film, Young@Heart, by Stephen Walker. Or check out the Independent Lens website for more about the group and the film.

karatekid12365 for me it was the same. they got so much spirit and loveing hearts.

  • This reminds me of something that would happen in a simpsons episode. In a good way!

  • I cried more than I ever have watching that documentary. I have never been able to listen to Fix You the same way again. :(

  • I would pay any money to watch Young@heart in concert....

Its just aN uplifting, heart to heart and authentic feeling to hear these wonderfull, young and vibrant folks sings.

My ONLY hope is that this group will serve as an inspiration and set to rest to the myth that has been around that senior citizens become invisible and empty!!!

ITS A PLEASURE AND AN HONOR TO HEAR THESE FOLKS PERFORM...

  • this always makes me cry

  • i see im not the only one

  • Aww, I love this song. Makes me cry every time :'( And Eileen; just the cutest little human being on the planet

  • i love this song, especially sung by this woman

  • tear...

    :(

  • This moment in the documentary is heartbreakingly brilliant. Well deserved standing ovation. Regardless of the audience being felons!

  • the brilliance lies in the faces of these troubled men , for no song could better bring forth such beauty in the hell known as prison.
