Can't watch this without crying. It is just so beautiful for these seniors to be teaching the young ones that youth - or vitality - is in your heart, not your physical body. I belong to a vocal group, Vox Jubilante. We sing at our county jail twice a month, and the response of the men is nothing short of a miracle.
Thanks for posting this - my favorite Young at Heart song.
I was sobbing at this point of the documentary. Two groups in society that are otherwise marginalized- the elderly and the incarcerated- sharing a moment of beauty and humanity together. Wow, incredibly powerful. Thank you so much for sharing...
This is beautiful. I got chills and teary eyed. When I get older, I hope to God I can be as inspiring and strong willed as these people. They will stay forever young.
This is one of the most touching and inspirational things i have ever seen in my life. I watched this documentary in choir class, and these people are my heroes. I hope that when i'm in my 80's that I'll be as amazing as you guys!!
I saw them in concert the day before yesterday in New York's St.Ann's Warehouse. I am 46 and I brought my 16 year old daughter with me. We both cried . And laughed. And sang with them. And at one point danced with them. This was a truly most memorable performance I have ever seen. Thank you, Bob Colman and all the wonderful performers from Young @ Heart. Keep on rocking!!
@KFReid You said it.In America,we sometimes dismiss the elderly as 'useless' much of the time, and look at people in prison as nothing more than scum.We have to ask ourselves, though, what led these people to the choices they made to get into trouble? What if someone had nurtured them instead? And what are we missing out on when we don't take the opportunity to connect with people who have lived a long and fruitful life? This is really a tremendous lesson for everyone.
wow...just watched the whole 2.5 hour show on PBS Independent Lens...I can't say I cry much as a man but this show had me sobbing a few times...this song was one of the moments and the other one is a guy named Fred Knittle singing Coldplay's Fix You...just the most heart wrenching thing I've seen lately and yet life affirming at the same time...thanks so much for posting

I would pay any money to watch Young@heart in concert....
Its just aN uplifting, heart to heart and authentic feeling to hear these wonderfull, young and vibrant folks sings.
My ONLY hope is that this group will serve as an inspiration and set to rest to the myth that has been around that senior citizens become invisible and empty!!!
ITS A PLEASURE AND AN HONOR TO HEAR THESE FOLKS PERFORM...

Yup, this is moving as much because they are moved, too, as it is from the song. They see the meaning and it is beautiful.

Yes, it is a prison. The prisoners were mildly entertained by the Young at Heart chorus until this song gobsmacked them up side the head.

the brilliance lies in the faces of these troubled men , for no song could better bring forth such beauty in the hell known as prison.
