so the robot itself is really just that truck.. he could just kinda climb into the cockpit while the robot sits there and do the same thing. But how cool would THAT be?
And now for phase 2 of the final phase! Begin your way to the Mariana Trench and utter the phrase "Cosmic Wave!" From there your robot will drill to the Earth's core and begin to unite with the Earth's Neural Center. You should now be in command of the inner planets of the solar system and combine to create your final form!!!
There was also an obstacle course, a french exam and a dance routine incorporated into the original plan for the transformation but they had to cut them for time.
This was one of our Saturday morning cartoons growing up. And you cannot imagine how much more badass it feels to have owned the toy robot as well during your childhood.
I saw this on Nickelodeon as a kid. I happened to have the Jumbo Daimos from the Shogun Warriors toy line. Let me tell you, after seeing "Starbirds", that jumbo found all kinds of new action.
This clip's got a lot of thumbs down for the suggestion that it is tedious, but elsewhere this is regonized as a classic.
Good memories of watching this version as a boy, and the whole series is the best of Tadao Nagahama's trilogy.....if not just for that fucker's ninja aphro,
Lol, we had Romanian version with Italian dubbing [the only one available in 80'] and Polish lector :D At least there were 44 episodes :P and we had original soundtrack included ^^' youtube.com/watch?v=AL7uf26i224
omg my fav anime when i was in fourth grade (early 80's) voltes v and mazinger z included i always draw good action poses of this robots after watching
omg my fav anime when i was in fourth grade (early 80's) voltes v and mazinger z included i always draw good action poses of this robots after watching
Sad to say this was one of the worst Americanized dubbed animes to come out. They changed the soundtrack with some crappy music which doesn't match the action. If you listen to the original Japanese soundtrack you'll agree that the original is far superior to this version.
I remember seeing this on Showtime back in '82 (I think) and this was the first anime I got to watch all the way through. Later I found out that it was an series and not a movie, as a kid it didn't register but now watching it it does seem choppy and rushed. Still, loved it as a kid, watching it now on DVD for a bit of nostalgia.
@wawhupaw thats why there are dubbing companies looking for talented dubbers and also the right plus matching interpretation of what there line is. to be honest its quite difficult to interpret and match the time line of speaking in the same time. Its meaning should be the say with the words you used and matching the current time of speaking.
....That is the most elaborate mech transformation ever. Like if you imagine the realism if it, there had to be like...hundreds of deaths just to make sure the bridge doesn't fault, the car doesn't miss the ramp, the car enters the truck smoothly, his chair doesn't miss the railing.....lol
@IndyX Not to mention that the entire transformation is pretty much just "stand the robot up from where it was lying on its back". Why complicate it? Why make it transform at all in the first place? The vehicle mode doesn't do anything the robot mode can't, except maybe race through tunnels.
God!Do I ever LOVE YOUTUBE FOR THIS!!God do I ever remember eating my grandmother's thick chicken soup while watching these old and better cartoons!!God bless the 80's and early '90's!!Please reply if you agree!!
just as Milordvega said, it's because they took off the original japanese background music that goes very well with the transformation sequence. like most anime, it makes so much more sense when you watch it in its original japanese. this is a classic anime series that was way ahead of its time, only to be ruined by a silly american production company; which is what happens to most anime dubbed in for US tv. perhaps you should've considered and asked yourself WHY it's "overpriced" on amazon.
thats why philippine eng dub is better even the voice acting is weird they still kept the bgm all of it the opening and ending are in japanese.. how aweseom was that
I seem to recal this was a toy that was one giant thing about 40cms tall. This was before transformers and Voltron where you needed X number of robots to make one giant robot. I think my cousin had one. I forget I was quite young.
Even for an anime transformation, that's overly elaborate. I keep expecting the heroes to show up three hours after the bad guys have finished their mission and gone home.
I'm still laughing at how preposterous the "Light Speed" section is. Doesn't it defy all the laws of physics to have the driver's seat shoot out perfectly straight and land squarely on the receiving pad? And if it was my first time, I'd be screaming my lungs out instead of looking perfectly calm like him. XD
Lightspeed? No Rescue? Not digging this dub. Some may disagree, but I liked the original music better. The guy who did the music also did the original music for the Dragon Ball series.
For the record, this was the same dub version back in 1978 when i was 5 years old, and i watched this on ....betamax back in the Philippines. So to anyone who thought this was dubbed recently, you are sadly mistaken. ahhh..the memories.
No this is not the same 1978 dubbed version. This was dubbed in the USA. The English version shown in the Philippines was dubbed by Filipino performers. Just listen to the names: here, the hero (Kazuya in Japanese) is called Kelly and not Richard as we call him in the Philippines.
i saw this one similar to this about a kid who was a football player when he entered the robot he like grew in size to fit it. it was shadow something lol
Though this had to be the biggest hack job in the history of anime, you have to give them credit for cramming 44 episodes into a single 75min movie. And doing it in such a way that very few would suspect that this was actually a TV series.
From those who have never seen Tosho Daimos, the reactions to this "movie" are generally quite positive.
