You really said it about the ridge cut, "This isn't going to work" TO TRUE. That's every day.:-) ...I remember when I was a young dumb teenager running out of gas going up that hill. I thank my lucky stars I (or anyone else) wasn't shredded to pieces. You live you learn. Thanks for posting.
I ran into one of those old dominion freight line trucks on I 495 in Haverhill in heavy construction traffic he was in the lane next to me I nicknamed him "clutchboy" because he was clutching and looked like he might jackknive
I was driving US-27 tonight and caught something that shows how outdated US-27 is. Look to the right at about 0:55 and you will see a stop sign. That is not on a side road but instead located at one of the entrances. Also up until a year or two ago the median was more like a fence and was more for decorations than anything else. (it is in one of your videos) Within the last few years they finally put up a Jersey Barrier.
@Freewayjim I think what MrMbtaguy was trying to say is that the roads there or ( I-495 in MA) to be exact is much more complicated . . . some highways r up in the air, then they wrap around, come down to the ground and up again. Believe it or not, there's just as much nature traveling through then what Chattanooga has to offer. Not to mention there is a lot to see than just nature. I mean this is the home of Boston crying out loud. MA is a state of history like none other.
Now that felt like I was driving, except when you jumped in the left lane, and you were a little bit lower to the ground. Did you get a chance to head up Signal Mt , into Dunlap. That is a great road, but I am not allowed on it with the truck. I definitely enjoyed putting the car on it though. Mostly 2 lane with lots of curves :-)
All I can say is Jim your the MAN!! You crazy SOB swerving through traffic like that.. Why if I didn't know any better I'd swear you were from New England.. Oh wait, you ARE!!! :)
Cool video; as I am from PA was it the scenery or the narrow, traffic-clogged freeway with the short exit and entrance ramps you were talking about?? LOL.That certainly does pertain to a lot of freeways in this state. I look at videos from CA, or TX and get very jealous about their highways and scenery. Well CA for the scenery mostly, TX for the highways:)
T-Dot has wanted for a while to redo US 27 from 127 to I-24. There was a plan to do the downtown portion first, the Olgiati Bridge next, and the area from 127 to the river last. The city wanted the bridge done first (believe me it needed it) and this was finished in 2002 or so. Later this year they are going to start redoing the downtown portion. The portion north of the river has environmental concerns so it is on hold until they figure out a solution.
Texas is making a killing off the toll roads in Dallas and Houston. That's why their highways appear so nice. Governor Rick Perry is so passionate about this as well.
At 0:58, if you look left you get a brief glimpse of a couple of the other river crossings, including the Market St Bridge which carries US 127.
At 1:12 (east end of the bridge), for many years sat what was the only indication that the road ahead was I-124, an OLD I-124 shield. It was removed when the bridge was widened ca. 2001-02...the bridge as built originally had 4 lanes and no shoulder. You can see the widening in progress on the satellite view on Google Maps or on Google Earth.
Drove through Chattanooga and from the freeway it looked scary, bar on all of the windows. I am sure it is a much better city though, would love to spend some time there some time. Nice job!
Most of I-75 in Georgia is either 6 lanes or GDOT is widening it to 6 lanes, but there will be stretches on either side of Macon where it will remain 4 lanes for the forseeable future.

@MrMbtaguy Why? There isn't much to see on that road.

@ama00010 I'm from NH, I am very familiar with the roads in Mass, I-495 is a snooze fest with nothing complicated about it.

Thanks,
The section from US-127 to the Bridge is what I was talking about as looking like a PA freeway because it was old, tight and badly in need of repair.
Georgia's freeways are quite nice too, in fact I'll bet GA has more rural 6 lane Interstate miles than Texas does.

Have you ever been to Hawaii? island of Oaho to be exact! if u get a chance u should do videos for their freeways...I-H3 is VERY scenic..

Never been to Hawaii, I've seen a video of I-H3 though, looks awesome.

I might be filming all of Hawaii's freeways in a couple of months from now....I can only hope. :-)

The freeway, as with most cities does not go through the best areas of town.

Nice video. It's funny how Chattanooga straddles the Georgia border.
Is I-75 six lanes or more throughout all of Georgia? I thought it was six lanes south of Atlanta as well..
aswchris 1 year ago
@aswchris
Most of Georgia, yes. There's still a portion in south Georgia's that four lanes, but that's being widened to six lanes.
