I went on your site and listened to some of your music, very good. Could you tell me what the background music is on this video. Never heard it before, did you write this? Would love to work up the chords and words. pete adams
I had a Quicksilver like yours and flew it for over 6 years. I want to tell you that I really like the song you have with your video. What's the name of it?
Had the same airplane and loved it. This video brings back very fond memories. However I had nothing but trouble with my Cayuna. Should have dropped in a Rotax. Despite all the advances in ultralights I would get an MX again in a heartbeat. Nothing beats flying this way.
@DrexArcher Hey I knew of a drex archer! I went to MSU from 91-96. I helped with the kids stuff Awanna or whatever it was called at the church of the Nazarene with Tharp. I can't remember your wife's name but I worked with her. Tell her Ben Grubb said hi. Great flying. I'm on the verge of gettng my first ultralight soI'm watching all these videos. Fun stuff
@ctquicksilver It had a Cayuna 440. One of the best 2 cycle engines ever put on an ultralight. It burned 1 1/2 gallons per hour. I recently traded it for a snowmobile. I bought a Quad City Challenger 2 Long Wing so I can take other people flying. I think the Quicksilver is the best built, toughest, and most reliable ultralight ever made.
@DrexArcher I just bought an 83 mx with the 377 rotax.. It has a lot of upgrades from mark smith. I hope it flies good... Hope to get it in the air this weekend. Your videos are great... lets see the challenger videos now!
where is 3 forks on gougle is saw 1 of three places????????? I had property out of great falls and considered retireing and flying ultralights there till I checked the local weater lots and lots of wind nice country not to far from wolf creek.
hey have you bought that challenger yet? im going to sound like a salesperson but you should really check out the excalibur ultralight. i guess u could call it a rip-off of the challenger but it has a lot of great improvements. hope you check it out, if u talk to tom karr you can get him to send you a video for free about the excalibur. i was actually going to get a challenger also but i came across the excalibur and it looks to be 1 up on the challenger.
wow, what a great vid. i always thought of ultralights as the 'mopeds' of the skies, but it looks just great fun! what is the song playing? and also, are there any laws/restrictions on ultralights? im in the UK, so obviously they'll be differences to the U.S. but are there restrictions on altitude/weight/route etc?
It is a Quicksilver MX. It is an older model, which has only two axis control. It does have spoilerons on the wings but they are worthless. The rudder is controlled conventionally. ie with the pedals The elevator is controlled with the stick, of course. It actually feels very natural to fly it this way. You just can't correct when landing with a side wind. The moral to that story is, don't fly when it's blowing over 10 mph.
If you have to land when it's windy, land into the wind. Not a big deal when the roll-out is about 100 feet with no wind. Factor in a good head-wind and your roll-out can be real short. I landed in a 32 mph wind and rolled out in 4 feet. I wish someone had been videoing when I did that. The stall speed on my MX is right at 24. I was able to fly backwards in that wind. That was a very weird sensation. When I took off that day it was dead calm. I climbed about 200 feet and made a big turn.
(continued) All of a sudden, I noticed the ground was going by VERY fast. I was about 3 miles down wind of the airport when I turned around. I pushed my speed up to 35 mph. My ground speed was fluctuating between 2 and 3 mph. It obviously took me awhile to get back to the airport. My cheeks were so pinched, I had to pull the seat out of my butt. hehehe By the way, I am selling my MX. I'm asking $3000. Ihas 110 hours on a total rebuild and recover. I'm going to buy a Quad City Challenger.
Is your MX still for sale?? I've been looking for a good deal on one. Are there any "fix-ups" that are needed on the plane? How many hours left on the engine?
Cool, I have my eye on one of those here in illinois. I noticed that it has rudder for turning, no ailerons though. how does it feel? un-Coordinated or does it feel ok?
And its fully acrobatic. At least, ONCE!

I hate my fucking country. There are no super cheap cheap ultralight planes like this and there's still so much regulation.

@brofun I fly in 10 to 20 mph minds all the time. Just make sure you use tie downs with the tail toward the wind.
