Castlevania 3 - Alucard

i hate to be "that guy" but can anyone tell me which games in the series are like castlevania 1? 'Cause CV2 doesn't play like CV1, and CV3 has the "choose your quest" almost working for it (I almost quit CV3 when it gave me the choice to leave or pick up the pirate guy) so... thanks and sorry at the same time.

@johnforthewin1 castlevania 3 is alot like 1, exept for that their is Castlevania 4 and the best of that kind is probably rondo of blood, not dracula X, but rondo of blood

Alucard in this game is kind of weak when it comes to his hellfire attack. Sure it's a projectile but it is weak with one fireball. To get all hits, all three have to hit but all spread diagonally while the center goes straight. He's tall and he can't attack on stairs. The only useful thing is transforming into a bat. However, I did beat Dracula with him, but you cannot beat the second form with him only. You need Trevor for the center head.

Alucard is clearly better than Dracula, since there are 3 crosses on the screen (one as subweapon, another as the background, ad the 3rd on the coffin) and he doesn't even feel affected until Trevor whips him until he dies.

Grant is indeed very usefull. You can control his jumps in mid air, and since he can jump realy high its in my opinion more usefull then Alucards bat transformation. Its still tricky to dodge some attacks in bat mode. And since Syphas magic is realy powerfull against Dracula, my top 3 would be: 1 Grant 2 Sypha 3 Alucard

@DanceofGold It's the same with Dracula. He looks REALLY young in Portrait of Ruin but in SotN he looks a lot older. xD

@7ruthie iga is not the one who says what's in and what is not, he may have taken over after symphony and kicked out games where he wasn't involved as non-canon but he doesn't rule castlevania's timeline and storyline, that honor goes to the gamers, before Iga every game was in the storyline, and i'm not going to accept whatever an old man has to say about something i have played since it began even if i was way too young to comprehend the greatness of this saga

alucard really sucks, there is no reason to take him with you, sypha and that monkeyguy is way much usefull...

I usually hear people saying Alucard's the best character and I think they say that because he has the ability to fly. I like Grant (monkeyguy) because he can access areas Sypha or Trevor can't and his climbing skills are as good as Alucard's flying once you get used to using them. I'd say Grant's climbing is better than Alucard's flying due to the fact that Alucard's flying depletes hearts while Grant's climbing does nothing of the kind.

Well, Alucard has another ace up his sleeve, he has that 3 way long range attack that can be quite good if used properly. Also, there are times when Alucard can fly over things as a bat ware there is nothing for grant to climb . All characters have there strengths and weakness and for the time are vary well balanced. To me, there is no "best" character, it's a matter of preference. Normally, I change character every chance I get, just to keep the game felling fresh.

Yeah, they are quite well balanced, the opinion whether a character is better than the other depends on the person's playing style. I should have used "favorite" instead of "best" in my earlier comment.

Sorry, I never meant to imply that you thought there was a best character. I was more or less referring to the people who told you that they thought Alucard is the best. I once thought that Grant was the worst, but after watching some of your boss fight vids, I've learned just how useful he can truly be.

@PsycoMikeo its true Sypha is takes one extra hit (if trevor takes 3 she takes 4) but is amazing with ranged atacks. Grant runs faster and jumps higher sup weapons are mor powerful and he can climb on walls and ceilings but has low range But alucard is to amazing

This takes place 300 or 400 years before Symphony of the Night. Trevor Belmont was responsible for Alucard betraying his father, as you can see above.

Cannon-wise, he had all 3 partners with him when Dracula was killed.

Now you know! And knowing is half the battle.

He is, but I have two theories why he attacked Trevor. The first theory is that he was testing Trevor's skill, whether or not he is strong enough to defeat Dracula. The second theory is that he was somehow possessed by evil, which made him attack Trevor. I myself am leaning more towards the first theory.
