Jimmy, thanks alot for the information on this episode! There were some facts that you mentioned that I had no Idea about. We dont' have a captian D's down here in Mission, Tx, but we do have some of those ther restaurants you talked about.
Salads are great on a low-carb diet, but they remind me WAY too much of a nasty, hunger-inducing low-fat diet. But you certainly can eat salads on low-carb...just stay away from the croutons and high-carb, low-fat dressings. I LOVE Ranch dressing the best...only 1g carbs!
I agree with you on all the restaurant choices. Unfortunately, our selection is way limited. Olive Garden does have 1 or 2 low carb selections in a pinch. McD's is easily available to me - I end up with a double Quarter pounder - no bun, no ketchup.
You can eat anywhere on low carb but it's a whole lot nicer when mashed califlower is on the menu!
You're gonna do GREAT on your low-carb lifestyle and I'm happy to help you anytime. Visit my LivinLaVidaLowCarb dot com blog, TheLivinLowCarbShow dot com podcast, and LowCarbDiscussion dot com forum for more education, encouragement and inspiration in this newfound journey to better health!
I just love your video...never know what yall are gonna do next..lol I haven't actually started the diet yet...still kinda checkin out all the videos and gettin back into the mindset for it, My hubby and I did low carb last year, but didn't do very well...kept tellin him its still about the portions, but cant tell him anything..lol keep up the good work yall!!
THANKS Sherry! You can do this...just be sure you read the book first and then DO IT! I'm happy to help any way that I can, so don't hesitate to e-mail me at livinlowcarbman at charter dot net.
McDonalds does NOT put sugar in their salads. Any form of sugar would come from croutons or dressing, ect. Statements like that have originated from the "Super Size Me" documentary with their old salads (full of processed meat and cheeses) If you stick to a side salad and go easy on the dressing you will be fine.
Actually, Taty4, McDonald's does put sugar in their salads and I got confirmation of it from one of their nutritional advisers Dr. Dean Ornish himself. High fructose corn syrup is in it and the dressing. Check with them yourself if you don't believe me. It's true, though. Sadly.
It comes down to what salads you are mentioning. Added sugar can be found in their signature salads. The side salad however is only green leafy stuff. As for dressing it is pretty horrid. If I'm forced to go to McDonalds, I usually get salad, and a big and tasty minus the ketchup and the bun. Not my favorite places to eat.
I agree the side salad is okay, but none of the other ones. And NONE of the ones they push. That oriental salad is just LOADED with sugar! I'd prefer to avoid Mickey D's at all costs.
I liked your video, however I have to say that since this way of eating, I don't look forward to going out to eat anymore. This is not because I can't eat the same. I just find I get better quality food at home and it's cheaper. I eat to live not live to eat.. It can be hard when people don't understand this. I never thought passing on Pizza would ever be so easy!
I agree, there are MUCH better places to spend my money with companies who at least TRY to give me legitimate options for my low-carb lifestyle. It's the only way these corporate giants learn their lesson.
Yep, Hardee's is one of the better ones if you stick with their low-carb options. Tell them NO KETCHUP on the Thickburger and it's only about 4-5g carbs. WOO HOO! THANKS for watching, mrniceguy28431.
EXCELLENT QUESTION and you'll be pleased to know they recently updated their menu with lots of grilled options as well as veggie sides. So you can keep your low-carb commitment while eating out at Captain D's. Good luck in the drawing.
My husband and I have done low carb for 3 1/2 years and we eat out ALL the time. I agree with all the restaurants you have suggested. I will add mine.
Bob Evans will accommodate to those who do low carb.Texas Road House,Outback,Lonestar has amazing steaks, for us on maintenance we often get the sweet potato butter only.
You do a great job Jimmy and Christine. Thank you so much.
THANKS for sharing SkeeterN! We too love the steakhouses and those are a no-brainer for people who are livin' la vida low-carb. THANK YOU for watching our videos! :D
This is awesome! I don't know anyone else doing the lo carb lifestyle and its great to get some support. I eat out often I don't usually have a problem.
Anyway, this is my second go round with Atkins. I plan on doing this forever. I lost 84 lbs in 9 mos the first time and kept it off for 3 years but now am going to loose it again. This time forever!!! Thanks to you two, and you inspiring assistance, I know I can do it. Now if only I can get used to this blog thing.
Hey Denise, welcome to the healthy low-carb lifestyle as it was MEANT to be. There are many misconceptions and distortions of what livin' la vida low-carb is, but the fact is it is EXTREMELY healthy for anyone willing to give it a try. But it MUST be a permanently lifestyle change to keep you fit and trim for the rest of your life. THANKS for your support!
I'm enjoying your video blog! You and I corresponded several months ago shortly after I started low-carbing it. I've now lost 50 pounds, half way to my goal! Your blog is a daily read for me and I recommend it to others! Thanks for all you do!
WOW, Nathan, that's so totally awesome!!! I'm very proud of you and am happy to play a small role in your amazing success. KEEP IT UP and keep on livin' la vida low-carb!!!
I downloaded your ebook yesterday and I could not put it down. I had so many Eureka moments. I love your videos because they motivate, educate and even cheer me up. I can see the Lord is working through you both. Keep up the good work. Take care :O)
THANK YOU for those kind comments, emsilv68pr! We love what we're doing and are just trying to impact our world any way that we can! We appreciate your support.
LOVE the blogs! Just wanted to say that McDonald's can be used for LC'ing on the run if you MUST. Burgers with cheese and no bun, grilled chicken, also no bun and for breakfast you can always have any breakfast sandwich with no bread. But, it DOES cost for these things and you feel kind of gypped when you're paying for stuff you're not getting, even if it's good for you!
That's right, ltreed! If I'm gonna pay for something low-carb at a fast food restaurant, then I at least want my money's worth. That's why I prefer Hardee's, but I suppose Mickey D's or Booger King would work in a pinch. THANK YOU for watching our videos and reading my blog!
Great Episode!I've been on Atkins for over 3 years and eat out a LOT!IHOP is no longer deceptive with their batter in the omelet, they boast about now in their omelet description. They will happily leave the batter out if you ask.I've found it very easy to LC there, especially since they've started offering 3 or 4 different veggie options, including California mix! Thanks again for all that you've contributed to the LC community!
THANKS ShellsLyn and I appreciate your readership at my blog and this video series here at YouTube. It's good to know IHOP has wised up a bit, but I still can't forgive them for doing that to the eggs. NOT SMART BUSINESS! :D Denny's is better to me anyway.
I live in the mountainous west and don't have access to most of the restaurants you mentioned. We do have an Applebees though. You can do well there by getting one of their steaks (they have several) and substituting extra vegetables for the mashed potatoes and having them leave off the croûtons on the salad. I've really been enjoying you videos!
THANKS LadyMD001! Yeah, Applebee's is okay, but you have to watch out for hidden carbs. I'd rather not mess with that. THANK YOU for your support of our videos! :D
Went to the website......Cheesecake Factory...and saw a wonderful selection...!!! Are you saying that ALL of their cheesecakes are good for low carb diets..?? Hope so..!!!
Oops....gosh I can't believe that I did not see the Cheesecake made w/Splenda..guess I better put my glasses on next time...:-)..
Found it on their website and hope to have a chance to try it...!!! Love y'all work here on YouTube..!!! Y'all are making this Low Carb dieting most enjoyable with all your input and suggestions...
Livin' la vida low-carb IS indeed a fun and exciting way to eat and live. I wish I'd done it many years ago so I wouldn't have ever gotten up over 400 pounds on my way to an early grave. NEVER AGAIN! THANKS for your comments again, tiparker119!
The trick is to know ahead of time what you're going to do and then place the order as soon as you you can. The more time you spend looking at glossy menu pictures of crispy hash browns or french fries or some wonderful looking dessert, the more likely it is you'll cave and order something you shouldn't. (Ask me how I know this... :/ )
Again, your videos are GREAT...!!! I look forwarding to all your updates on Livin Low Carb. Thanks for sharing the info on restaurants to enjoy and avoid. Since I am located in the local area of Greenville, I have access to all the ones you mentioned. You both are adorable and again your videos are wonderful....so keep 'em coming more often....!!!!
Hey TiParker119! It's always good to hear from someone just down the road from me here in South Carolina. THANKS for your devotion to what we are doing with these videos...although fitting them in once a week is about as often as we can get right now with my busy schedule. THANK YOU again for your very kind comments about me and Christine!
I think it's WONDERFUL that you're doing these videos, since so many people haven't read Dr Atkins' book -- you're being extremely helpful to all of those folks. Kudos to you both!!!
Hey Debbie, it's good to have you in our viewing audience. We appreciate your support and are trying to do our part to share with the world that livin' la vida low-carb is a very normal and natural lifestyle change that ANYONE can make to improve their weight and health. THANKS for your enthusiasm for our mission. :D
Great video, as usual. Too bad that the only restaurants in my part of the world (eastern Canada) are the "bad ones"... although I can do reasonably well at Wendy's if I need to.
THANKS Brian! I understand what you're saying and it's the same way here in the Upstate of South Carolina. So many of the "good" restaurants are hard to find. We do have a Cracker Barrel and, of course, Denny's. THANK YOU for your comment!

Carlitta87 3 years ago
Since we did this video, Wendy's has added the Baconator which is a PERFECT low-carb meal if you ditch the bun. :D

we just got rid of the low carb meals at captain d's.
