This is the best versions of A Christmas Carol i have ever seen. I LOVED Jim Carrey's performance in this movie. And like how Disneyfan82 said this story was never originally meant for little children. It did an excellent job in capturing the dark moments and also the sad moments. I loved this movie and I love all the christmas-themed movies Zemeckis has done. He really seems to hit those right on the head. I just loved how this movie and Polar Express were done. They have become two of my all-time favorite christmas movies now.

This is A Christmas Carol a little different from the other ones. Some parts in it may be dark and a little scary, but back then the book wasn't originally made for children. I thought the whole movie really set a good point in what the actions of a miserable miser can often lead to unless they can repent to avoid a terrible fate after death. Screw critics. Bunch of snotty know-it-alls. This had become another favorite version of mine.

@MegaRoBoTiK While I disagree that this song reminds us of what Christmas is really about, since it is celebrating the birth of Christ and Christ is not referenced in this song, I do agree that Alan Silvestri did a fantastic job writing an original song that sounds authentically Christmas. Most people would see this movie as another one of those Christmas Carols that blend in with the others. No, it actually differed from the others. I am surprised that it was closest to the book. And I read it myself. It certainly sets a good lesson much better then the others. That because you can see how serious it was too.
