I want to take self defense courses but I don't know which is best for me: Krav Maga or Aikido? What are the deferences between the 2? I am a woman 25 years old, 1.58m and 50 kilos.
@MELINANOTIS I've been in Goju-ryu Karatedo for 11 years and it's working well for me. I suggest both, but Aikido focus's on joint locks and throws and is less combat oriented and has a lot of bogus schools that you will learn nothing from. Go into Goju-ryu, Kyokushinkai, Muai Thai, or Krav Maga. They are all excellent arts, but you will not be a sufficent fighter from any of these intsantly, it takes long hours of practice and a few years until training is practical to use :)

When you run know ahead of time where you are running to. Have a plan. Get shatterproof windows for your car. I am guessing you don't carry a gun with you. So you must use your mind protect yourself

Some fighters (Chinese security guards at the movie theater) look to grab a thumb. These guys have long enough legs it would be hard to grab their thumbs anyway. Good solid technique and you can tell they are not beginners at all. Type of dudes that can rumble when they have to. Good guys to have on your side in a streetfight. Good dudes to learn from also.
Going on one-leg for a higher kick like that seems potentially dangerous to me. Someone with a lot of momentum could potentially knock you down or someone with good reflexes could dodge the kick altogether.

@RabidxPanda Simple, it's a thrust kick commonly used in tae kwon do. Krav Maga was based on WWII combatives, a large part of which was jujutsu; not a lot of kickboxing is blended in it as well. Krav Maga is not some 1,000 year old native martial art, it was created with input from what they learned from the British and Americans.

You can side step a punch too, but it's hard. If you train, this kick can be pretty fast. And you don' throw it if they're standing in one place usually, if they're moving back you have little risk of retaliation if you miss, and if they're moving forward their momentum will carry them into it. The problem people have is they throw this kick and then don't pull it back, and it gets caught, or they aren't prepared to have to throw a punch after.

@hubertgreen Krav Maga didn't do good in UFC, i read something about that, guy got his ass kicked. It might be because allmost every tecniche aims at spots forbiten in rules (groin), because if you use it for real, you will severilly harm your opponent and because an UFC fighter is no push over.

I trained with a guy who trained LA PD in defense techniques. He said never attempt to kick above the knee. Take out the knee and run.

@hubertgreen Krav Maga didn't do good in UFC, i read something about that, guy got his ass kicked. It might be because allmost every tecniche aims at spots forbiten in rules (groin), because if you use it for real, you will severilly harm your opponent and because an UFC fighter is no push over.
