I remember when the Matterhorn was hollow and from the Skyway ride you could look down and see the cast members' break area complete with a basketball hoop.
The colors were so much more vibrant back then than they are today...I'm so grateful I was able to go 5 or 6 times when my sister and I were little. Memories kinda make me sad.
Will show my roomate this. He saw james brown on that stage in tommorrow land. could not find pics of it , (it used to be a rising from the gorund stage).
ps my family had a 2 piece camera back in the day and it was heavy. Could not imagine carrying it around disneyland for any length of time.
They removed our Skyway here at WDW as well. They also took out our 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, Mission to Mars, Mr Toads Wild Ride, and most recently, Mickey's ToonTown Fair which will make way for the Fantasyland expansion project. Atleast our WED Way People Mover now called the Tomorrowland Transit Authority and the original Space Mountain are still here as well as your Carousel of Progress.
this makes me feel sad cause they removed: people mover skyway old space mountain adventure thru inner space tomorrowland terrace carousel of progress america the beautiful submarine voyage and the old monorail i miss all of them
This is one of the best videos I've seen of the Skyway on YouTube so far. Capturing that live band at the Tomorrowland Terrace is, strangely, something that's harder to find than one would think. This really encompasses what the ride was like. Great job.
Me (7 or 8 at the time)filmed lots of stuff with our heavy old 2 piece. Its funny we used that camera until 1991 when my dad finaly got A small 8mm video camera. I have video of disneyland around the same time also, but right now the tape is miss placed with about 400 other vhs tapes. When I have time I am going to find it and post video from it.
If you have Pirates of the Caribbean, I would be most interested in seeing the fireflies. I am their designer. Also, Carousel of Progress would be excellent.
Yes. And a very large and heavy battery. The VCR was about half the size of the livingroom variety. I had a bruised neck from the size of the camera---all of which makes this video quite unique: Few people were up for that.
Now...this brings back LOTS of memories! Thanks for sharing this video! Great to see the old school monorail, PeopleMover and all of Disneyland in the good old days!

Very cool, Did you video tape this with A old 2 piece video recorder and camera ? We had 1 of those units back in the 80s.
