  • oh! hot air for combustion right?

  • Slightly related question. Is it possible to use a fresnel lens or other lens or mirror of sorts to drop more light on a solar panel, therefore getting it to produce more output?

  • @chanceturcotte I asked a manufacturer... and adapting their gasification wood stove for electricity generation would void the warranty, but I wonder how this could be gone about safely?

  • ummmm, what does this thing do?

  • @MrTrollis93 It is a type engine that works on heat, so it doesn't directly need fuel. All you need to do is heat one piston and cool the other.

You can use heat from burning fossil fuels, from solar energy, or from nuclear energy.

  • @21mozzie hmmmm... what about a gasification wood stove? I'd love a gasification wood stove to provide my hot water, heating and electricity! Seems like the best way to go!

  • make the motor a lot bigger and you could power a house with it and its probably a lot cheaper than solar panels. Damn I love these motors.

  • were can i buy these from????????

  • This is the power plant for the Fountain of H2OPE. Faja Anser Love

  • hi can send the plans of it? email dababietiger@netzero.com....thxs

  • good job

  • Hi, I just want to know if this stirling motor can power up a good bunch of leds, I want to illuminate my shop 25 m2. If it does, can I buy the diagrams of one of your motor that can do what I need? thanks !

  • Very good job. Just curious, what is that morse code saying "BCÜTA0WBC0" ?

  • Dan, suggestion, comments, references, to convert an existing engine into a sterling type engine? Practical? ad/inadvisable? links?

  • Why don't they ever show these with a belt connected and spinning a generator? I don't think it produces enough torque to working

  • haha. burning oil is much better than this

  • ___ w w w diymagneticmotor com ___ FREE energy Guide___

  • @tyuiwas Free energy does not exist.

  • @demoniack81 You are being sarcastic I hope. The Sun is free energy. No bill collectors come when you use the sun.

  • @nashkita77 YET!

  • my favorite part was the painfully loud morse code at the end.

  • yo mama so stupid she tried running her STIRLING ENGINE SOLAR POWER FRESNEL LENS inside!

  • @35Berrin dunno why i lol'd but i did.. haha

  • @SurvivalGrounds yeah that was kinda of a weird joke

  • Off Topic: may I know what is the title of the background music(s)?

  • @sumwailow - "Best Elevator Music of the 90's"

  • How about BIGGER and a load on it that can be used!

Now that I NEED to see!

  • Why use a refraction lens to concentrate light when a reflecting mirror has been proven to be better since the time Issac Newton? Aren't most modern telescopes and solar-thermal power plants already using mirrors? You trying to sell me a better candle when a flashlight already exist brah?

  • what kind of rpm and torque can you expect from this? enough to power a car alternator?

  • The best part is at the end when the video ends, and I move on to a more exciting one.

  • Dan, tap that chamber & insert a water nozzle. Squirt a blast directly on the hot spot inside the chamber, just a little water each squirt. Bet the resulting flash steam within the chamber would make higher HP.

Would have to get rid of cooling chamber & vent the exhaust, but it would work, no water-filled boiler required.

Fire a blast each time piston is at lowest point within cylinder, just like a gasoline motor.

  • dan you made a comment on your web site...of new thing to happen late 2010 when will we see it? please reply asap with a commment. If your busy let densie comment on it...

NEW: Future Video : PV hybrid for auto start solar Stirling engine, prevents meltdowns for set and forget.

NEW: Larger engine, we found a machinist for an Alpha design that is a powerhouse due end of 2010.

NEW: Vacuum seal for Beta engines, +25% power output.

  • Music is nonsense !…

    I want facts !!!!…

  • cant a sterling engine be used to charge a large rechargeable battery?

  • really nice!

  • What is the efficient in your opinion ? a) Lense & Sterling b) Lense & Steam c) Parabol & Sterling d) Parabol & Steam ?

  • I want to buy...

    what is the price ??

  • have you made as storage device to store all that energy?

  • how do you lubricate the piston(s)

  • so many machines, so many lensses, please, teach us how to convert that energy to electrical energy so we can save some money, and really help the enviroment, how to make a generator or something, please.

  • cool music!

  • *****

  • You must try it with the refrigerator.

  • Can you put a bunch of these together and juice them into amped car batteries to power a home?

  • cool

  • cool cuold it run on heat from a wood buning and push a car alternator it wood be a good winter emergance steem genortor

  • HOW CUM DERZ NEVERZ ANYTHINGYZ HOOKED UP TO ANY OF THE STERLINGS I SEE RUNNING ON HERE... IS IT BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO POWER?? OR JUST... YOUR SUPPOSE TO KNOW HOW YOU CAN USE THE POWER FOR SOME KIND OF USEFUL PURPOSE.... AND PLEASE... THIS IS JUST A QUESTION... NOT HERE TO DEBATE ANYTHING. MAXWELLartGORDON

  • looks simpler than the moving mirror design, but don't you have to track the sun still?

if you're looking for a project, how about a small one seater car powered by solar? i was just doing research on using this technique for a solar steam engine, but tracking the sun to keep temperature without moving mirrors or lenses like this seems to make it unfeasable. passive omnidirectional light gathering would be needed evfen with pre-heated water i'm sure.

  • what would happen if you were to shine a magnifying glass at a solar panel. would energy output increase?

  • OK YOU REALLY NEED TO DO AWAY WITH THAT ANNOYING BEEPING AT THE END! .. love your guys stuff even the music is good just not that damn beeping.. if you feel the same viewers Thumb this up!

  • Hi Dan. I have two questions for you. I need a premade stirling engine for my project and Im looking at the one on your website. What type of stirling is this, it looks like a beta since I only see one cylinder.

If it isnt a beta, is it possible to alter the phase difference on this design?

Secondly, when are the "alpha" engines you spoke of on your website for sale, and can you put me on the pre-order list please?

  • Dan, I'm interested in purchasing this stirling engine however, you haven't answered my question which is: Is the flywheel pressed on or can it be removed?

    Thank you...

  • @dcrits You need it to start the movement.....

  • Very cool, now what are you gonna use it for?

  • Dan, I know your busy, however would you please tell us if the flywheel is pressed on or is it removable. Thank you...

  • i really dont get how anyone could thumb this down heres a bloke trying to do something very important huge thumbs up champ thank tuk for dudes like you respect"

  • Dan, I'm amazed at all the stuff you do. No where else do I learn so much.

  • I also have a question for you Dan:

What can you recommend as the most reasonable material to construct an Alpha-Type Stirling engine from. Because I have made a design based on aluminium and I'm afraid that with my budget that could become too expensive to cast or cnc machine it.

I would really appreciate it if you would give me some suggestions.

    Cheers :D

  • @rock3tcat Regular 2 stroke engines can be a good starting point also compressors. It requires some machine shop work. I have taken almost every engine I have owned apart and regular engines seem to be an easy conversion. I NEED A MACHINE SHOP:-)

  • @GREENPOWERSCIENCE I'm new to this ..but one thing that comes to mind is to power this you would have to constantly adjust the lens to focus the beam on the engine..seems kinda awkward way of generating power. I just have a hard time seeing how this could be practical to use for powering anything.

  • @souleeze The Heliostat is a simple matter using either digital sensing and locomotion, or thermal pressure activated systems - the Fresnel will follow the sun when properly installed. The thermal core is at a fixed point on the lense, which follows the sun. A stirling turned by a stirling is a VERY powerful refrigerant. A dynamo can also be coupled to the shaft for low wattage electricity. A pump can raise water all day, to fall into use at night...... much much more.

  • @GREENPOWERSCIENCE I need one too! I have the displeasure of having been a machinist, and having over one hundred apparatus prepared for construction - and missing only tools and materials.

In your busy schedule, please stop by my systems diagrams, we greatly share interest.

  • so what does it actually do? whats it used for and where do you get one from??? thanks Abz

  • it go so fast I wish I have one

  • I read through all the comments and saw no one comment on the Morse code at 48sec. Was wondering why it was there. I got it as "BCUTA0(ZERO)WBC5?

  • ни хуя не ясно из этого видео. Тема использования солнца не раскрыта

  • Hey why not use the energy to vaporize some liquid and, use the pressure to compress air! then use the rest of the day to make as many air tanks as you can to use. I heard there is a compress air car out there, don't see why not a generator.

  • @Ramiromasters that is what I'm investigating. There are some practical(atleast in the city) compresses air cars. Why not have some solar or wind powered pumping stations? why not? hehe I want to try it. save big energy/money if you can make it reliable.

  • What I would like to see is a fresnel lens "flashlight" of sorts that focuses a beam hot enough to start up a stirling engine, which in turn is hooked up to a small generator motor that re-charges the batteries in the flashlight, keeping it going, while pulling a second load to power something else as well. It would be very interesting to see how long it would run, given that there is no such thing as "perpetual free energy".

  • @RationalPrejudice Check todays episode, it's the closest you will get.

  • @RationalPrejudice Not THAT interesting. And a waste of time.

  • lets see some work produced ehh!

  • you could use this to charge the batteries that power your house, during the day.

  • What is that thing?

  • thats a nice looking one

  • dang! I was workin' on this idea grumble grumble

oh well on to the next idea: compressed CO2 in a clear bottle under the Sun's heat....shhhhhh!

really great design guys! 5*s! maybe hook it to an air compressor and run moters from the compressed air and create a storage capability...just a thought...thanks again!

  • geat beta type

  • OVERKILL!!! This type of engine is supposed to run from a small oil burner, surely using the fresnel is generating a massive amount of heat which is likely to boil off any lubricant and soften/ expand metals causing greater wear. Will a 6" fresnel lens work?

  • you didnt watch the other vid did you? your so dumb WATCH THE OTHER VIDS AND THEN JUDGE

  • @ bobo45465I was making a point about excess heat and how it contributes to wear. No I've not seen the "other vid" and FYI I wasn't judging. Who feels like a dumb ass now?

  • not me :D

  • LOL, Have a happy Christmas Bobo!

  • lol 2 late for me to say but happy newyear! (soon)((by the time u see this is probaqblu will be

  • how did you make that

  • What the smoke coming from it

  • I'd say the concentrated solar beam cooking the paint on the cylinder head.

  • thats perfect for it....but maybe to power a rotisserie box with electricity, unless you think the ratios can be made with a 21 speed bike allowing for different cooking times...

  • Good Dan. I have been looking at a sterling engine which is water cooled to pump water from a well etc. Engine would be in sun with lens with cold end in water. What is the minmum temperature diference these run at to pull say 120 joules per min? (120cmwater 1metre per min)

  • Does this particular model use ball bearings? I've noticed that a number of PM Research's engines use a Babbit-style bearing. Also, what sort of lubricant is used? Graphite? I've been wanted to pick up one of these, but for $300 I kinda want to know what I'm getting myself into.

  • I have definitely become more interested in solar power after seeing your videos. Thanks! Maybe more videos on where to purchase equipment and supplies would be cool also.

  • Dan,

When can we see this with a load on it. I would love to see it run something useful like charging a laptop or a battery array

  • Dan,

I got to say I always love your videos. Thanks to you I have learned a lot over the past year. I always look forward to your videos. As for the haters out there, let them sit in the cold and pay for something that can be free.

  • Serious question Dan...sorry to interupt the haters on here...Is the stirling engine completely sealed? crankcase and all? Just curious before I buy one, because if it is completely sealed, you can drill a hole, tap it out with an air nipple and pressurize the inside up to say 25 psi with Helium and it should triple your energy output. Please let me know. Great videos like usual from you Dan...keep up the great work and don't let the haters get you down, lots of us here love what you do!

  • :-) Thank you for the support, I usually take reasonable criticism as a useful tool on what is needed for future videos.

This would be nice to power something, even small, they just lack connectors so it needs to be customized for a DC mini power production. We have been a bit time strapped.

They are sealed very well, not sure if this will hold, the other model similar to this is not as sealed.

Thank you for the great comment.

    Dan

  • still playing with toys huh

  • these are not toys. it's more like research. these guys test things and maybe in the future these inventions can be used to create lots of energy .

  • Good comment!

  • Although I agree.... but these inventions are quite dated... they need a reinvention or a rethink to keep up with our power demands. These Videos are more to inspire and inform then to show what can be done.

  • these are toys, there is no need to research whether you can make power from heat from the sun, do some looking.

  • @chilleri Either that or Dan and his buddies mysteriously disappear or die from a mysterious cause altogether, it's happened before there's no reason why it wouldn't happen again. Oil companies wouldn't want this kind of info getting to the masses....so take care Dan and stay safe. Thanks for the videos.....

  • @mmaghfai ... or they just give them a six or seven digit paycheck every year for keeping their mouth shut !

  • I don't get it

  • even at 10 watts you can power a joule thief circuit and power up to 400 led lights check that on youtube! blessings

  • Ooh!

  • Nice job. It looked like you burned off all the new at the beginning.. I want one like that model. ever since I heard that you can get 3 to 5 times the power out of a stirling generator than you can get from a solar panel per unit area of collected solar energy..

    MUDDy

  • cool

  • Bite Me ! LOLOLOLOLOL

  • So if my guess (calculation) is right that stiling engine is capable of 1/20hp.

  • Stirling engines can work off small temperature differences so it should be possible to get one to work when the sky is cloudy. Possibly by putting the cold part in the shade and a large collector.

  • It spins fast but it does not look to have much torque

  • can it generate a current then you could maybe perform some electrolosis and crack some hydrogen.

  • i'd like to see that same engine producing electricity ...thanks ...

  • Sure would like to hear more about this stirling engine Dan & see it power something.

  • Hey Dan,

Why not attach a dc motor to that maybe generate 700 watts or so.

    thanks for the great stuff

  • it wont generate 700 watts because that is almost 1 hp

which equals 746 watts if my memory serves me.

if that thing generates 10 watts I would be inpressed however I seriously doubt that it would run anything save a 7 watt l e d light.

    cheers

  • You seem to know a lot about this stuff :-)

I think it is great that you are willing to answer some questions.

    Greets, iT

  • It would be interesting to see this connected up to something and doing useful work.

  • For a stirling enging to do any kind of useful work they have to be huge and weigh more than Dans van.

    ask Dean Kamen.

  • That engine could probably be used to pump a lot of water to a small hydro turbine to create elctricity?

  • NO!

    it would not.

  • Why not?

  • for one thing.

dan says it has an output of 12 to 15 watts.

when you attach a belt to it your going to have a power loss of who knows how much and you will end up with maybe 8 watts of power. Gang!!!!

how much water do you think such a Rube Goldberg setup would pump???

  • Hi Dr. SolarDan, I bought my first solar panel ever today. It's a small charger for a 12 volt car battery, just to keep the car battery charged when I don't use it, but hey, it's a start. The solar battery charger produces only a few milliamps and it can only keep the battery charged, so it's not meant to charge empty car batteries but dear Dr. SolarDan, I wonder if I can connect a few off them together to make a big solar charger that really can charge a car battery? It has a build in diode.

  • P.S. Great video, very sharp image. 5*

    Greets from the Netherlands, iT

  • of course you can

you just need your solar panels to produce between 12.5 and 13.5 volts dc.

You always need more volts than the voltage of the battery.

  • Thanks for answering my question. I was afraid to break something. I'm not familiar with solar technology. And there is no better place to ask a questions then YouTube The panel is specially made to protect a car battery from draining all the energy. But I was wondering if I hook up more of them so I can charge empty batteries. I've measured 90 milliamps when it was hooked up to a car battery at a very sunny and bright day. It was producing 20 volts DC when it wasn't connected to the battery.

  • I want it:)

  • when will you attach those sterling engines you've been showing us to a generator and actually produce some usable electricity out of it.

  • he could inbed some magnets in the fly wheel and have it spin around a coil

  • that is one big magnifying glass

  • gotta keep the video's flowing. It's helping change things. One voice echo's far in this place.

  • i wanna know more!

  • Always love the videos.....

    but some more specifications please!

    whos the manufacturer?

  • awesome as always... thanks

  • I would like to see you attach the engine to a generator and actually produce electricity thanks.

  • You waited out 4 hours of clouds to make this video for us? Damn do I feel special :)

Really appreciate all of your hard work tinkering so I don't have to.

  • What's the name of the song?

  • Going to attach it to something?

    Nice vid btw.

  • What are you planning on using this for? I'd say that it'd probably best be used for a water pump or something.... Probably not strong enough though. Hmmm... Practical uses anybody?

  • death by fresnal. some powerful installations can burn through steel and if the french had the idea they might have tried it.

  • Was that Sears logo on the machine or on a tripod or something holding it?

You guys hollering for something "usefull" need to visit some forums. There's plenty of us building "usefull" stuff without a bank loan, and we present our work on forums and sites. There's more to the internet than just YouTube!

Keep the ideas coming, Dan. I don't recall you making any promises. It's up to us to take the ideas and run with them.

  • You're putting a decent load on that thing. I'd guess around 5-10 lb's pressure? Great work GPS!

  • Hey Dan, I wanted to know about that solar tracker you were working on with your family member. How is that progress coming? I have seen a drawing from another scientist, that shows water solar panels heating water, then going through a copper coil inside a metal plate being hit by a fresnel lense. Which flashes it to steam. Which then runs a steam generator to make electricity. Then the hot water is piped to a water tank to give a heat transfer to heat the home's hot water tank. Just an idea!

  • great! i love those engines! i woud love to get one. Tell me, what is the life expectancy of one of them?

  • How do these work? is there a video on one, if so can someone link me please.

  • @DaMcaAtak

Watch the other video's ;). Then you will understand about 99% of what they did do here to make this work.

  • if you got a balloon full of air and put it somewhere hot (like in an oven, or in sunshine), it will expand somewhat as the air inside heats up.

Then if you put the balloon somewhere cold (like the shade), the balloon will shrink as the air inside it gets colder.

This expanding and shrinking action of a gas, can be used to push and pull a piston, creating power.

In a stirling engine the "displacer" is like you moving that balloon around to and from hot/cold areas.

    watch?v=CDntL4GZh0E

  • Thanks.

  • It looks like it has a small groove you could use to drive a small round belt with. You should have it spin a small DC motor and see how much wattage it will produce.

  • WTF looks like the bar is raised Dan. Cool engine and great video. I think you are expected to save the world. So get out there, make a free energy machine and cure cancer while you are at it. LOL get me some health care too.

  • Sorry Rojas, The demos without use are getting a little tedious. We don't need music videos we need schematics and suppliers.

  • So what type of generator or DC motor would be best?

  • What do engine$ like that go for and where are good places to find them? I'm wondering how many can fit in a circle with their heat sinks "spoked" together under the focal point of a fresnel lens.....

  • Hi,

The are about 300 bucks, I have an extra one on our website.

  • Ebay tends to have them.

  • Connect any generator to that engine and try to generate electricity.. if it's possible, then this is one useful project :)

  • Okay now hook it up to something useful. Something that will actually save someone some money.

  • exactly. i'm so sick of seeing videos like this that really dont mean anything. i've yet to see even one single productive video that shows a practical way of producing usable electricity (INSIDE A HOUSE) that will lower ones electric bill. it's always just ideas and complete rubbish.

  • all great things started with an idea,by the way I went from 155 a month electric to under 50 from doing this stuff

  • great! so, why dont we have people showing exactly how they are doing this and solar simply isn't an option everywhere. of course it's great in florida but not everyone has this luxury. what options exist in tennessee, kentucky, indiana or that general area?

what can the average joe living in a neighborhood do that can't go get a loan at the bank? : ) i mean face it, this is the average individual we are talking about here. how does he get an edge?

  • well you can start a stirling engine with an increase or decrease of temperature. so you run it on a bag of ice to a cup of coffee. (small engine)

  • We don't exactly produce oil either but we still use it. Basically we need to update the electrical grid so we can trade energy across the country. You can easily imagine this with a place like New Mexico easily being able to produce more energy then they can consume.

  • I'm a bit of a skeptic too about this stuff because I look at the initial cost, verus the time it takes to repay the investment. Saving power by turning off lights and appliances is free and will see immediate results. Insulating your house better is a small investment and will have a fast pay-back. Investing in a big solar array is very expensive, and takes 20+ years to rocoup not to meantion any panel or inverter replacement when they fail.

  • I believe the future we see us doing all the things you mention along with some the things Dan is showcasing. PV aren't a magic bullet, but if it takes 20y ears to pay them off, most likely they will serve you another 20 for free. In the meantime one saves the money they aren't paying to power company, to pay for any failures. No matter how you look at it electrical power will never be without cost. While I'll piddle with PV on a small scale My interest in solar is for space heating.

  • I'm not sure what the life expectancy is of a solar panel. I read the inverters are about 75% of the price for a system and they tend to fail frequently. Will they last 20 to 40 years? I guess I worry about buying a solar system that is "guaranteed" 20 years by the company and the company folds after a few years. Another concern is buying a system and then the cost drops to half of what it is 5 years down the road.

  • you can light a candle under it it works great

  • Good Grief man, every thing you are using today began with someone doing the things Dan is doing. All Dan(and others) aredoing is recording his experiments like Bell, Edison, the Wright, to name the familiar. Many are using alternative energy to reduce there power bills or live off the electrical grid entirely. Not that I'm saying saying the Stirling engine is ready for prime time, much less 1 powered by the sun

  • So put your money where your mouth is linuxbox25. Use the principles Dan has shown us here and put them to use. Then produce a video of it and post it as a video response. Do you think Dan just wiggles his nose like bewitched and poof there's a video? Dan works hard to bring us this information and he doesn't charge us a penny for it.

  • I will refer you to "Hot, Flat and Crowded", By Thomas Freidman.

In that book he makes a clear point that the next great technology doesn't exist yet. We probably have no idea of what it will be, and It will most likely come out of someones backyard workshop.

Keep in mind, Edison invented the phonograph so blind people could listen to the bible. This idea didn't take off and it sat on a shelf for 20 years. In fact, he was against the idea of using it for music. Waste of time, he thought.

  • Yea Linux box, what have you done. Where's the video. Dan's a walker, you're a talker ! Shut up if you can't do better. What have you done smart ass! Nothing ! Thats why Dan has subscribers and you don't. Piss off Hoser !
