To be fair, the Lightning are still in a rebuilding process. The roster, not to mention ownership, management, and coaching, had undergone a complete overhaul from last year.

Also, while it is good to consistently make the playoffs (and thus, be a contender every year) like the Senators, the bottom line at the end of the day is championships. The current Senators (the ones that began playing in 1992, same as the Lightning) have zero Stanley Cups.
