1.) Microsoft is relying on the devs to make programs to be compatible with desktops, laptops, tablets, and phones. That's going to be a lot of work for devs.
2.) You guys think there's not going to be widgets on iOS.
If desktop computers ever start running OS' like Ios or Winphone 7 I will move to Linux. If Linux moves in that direction, I will compile my own version of Linux.

Many windows ideas were based on mac osx. Like the windows 7 dock, its a copy of the mac dock! I love windows but they need to stop playing copycat and catch up with other companies. Also, the windows 8 platform seems like a great idea for a tablet but definitely not a pc!
@TakessianGaren #1 Windows does not have a dock. They have tool bar, which is now starting too look more and more attractive. The new tile format has nothing to do with Apple at all. @Dani01c not to mention Microsoft is a huge share holder in Apple which they make major cash from not to mention Microsoft gets $5 from HTC for every Android device sold, they dealed instead of sued which is sweet by M$ cause HTC is awesome, but are suing others over Android patent violations and are likely to get $10 or more for any Android device solve by other manufacturers.

There hasn't been any real changes since the beginning of the computer. Granted, all the advancements have come from hardware internals and software. But the general screen, mouse and keyboard configuration is the same. Why not veer away from this traditional configuration and try something different. To quote Matias Duarte of Google, "computers suck." Furthermore, Steve Jobs is already using the "post PC" term. Clearly the future is demanding that computing goes mobile. Windows 8 is a start.

The idea of having Windows 8 on all three types of devices might be an advantage. This I say because the same applications/programs could be used across all three platforms. So, the idea of a unified App Store is interesting - unless Microsoft cocks it up.
Their talks kind of out dated. If you watch the Google IO, they also going make an one Android version which runs on all tablets and mobile phones. So there will be 1 global OS and it will behave on it's own way based on what kind of device it installed. So that way developers don't need to build the same app for different devices and worrying to optimize it, because OS do that for you. I'm a developer who build Android apps and I still don't know why these 2 reviewers don't get the concept.

I've got an Ipad 1 and an iphone 4 and although i really like the design of the hardware, the software has huge limitations that really limit what you can actually do with the devices.... I had intended to go the Android route, but yesterdays anouncement completely changed my mind.. windows unified devices ftw !!!

Come June 6th and I think that iOS will be revamped. But what he said about Windows 8 could be true. But I feel that if it is possible by having the same programs on ALL THREE types of computers FLAWLESSLY, then, it'll be amazing. We have to wait and see.

While the Windows 8 look, based on what i've seen IMO, woudl be better then iOS or Android for tablets and such, I'm not sure how i feel with it on desktops and laptops. Sure, you can use the traditional windows, which is required for apps ( If im correct.) The problem then is, regular windows apps running on tablets and touch devices.
@groMMit1981 I own both Android and Apple devices, and I speak from an objective point of view. Despite a dull and dated default UI Apple has first mover advantage (Larger App store, more and quicker developers support and compatibility with government website for example), better vertical integration (better hardware and software compatibility), more polish OS (I use the Honeycomb OS and iOS, dull as it is has MUCH lesser bug I assure you).

I don't think these guys got what just happened. Windows PCs will from now on be touch first, keyboards are still possible, but everything will be optimized for using touch. The old UI is just for legacy support.

How is it that MS is scared of Apple? MS has the biggest beast in the room with Windows and is now making the OS all purpose with a WP7-like touch experience that looks to really go right over iPad's head as far a tablet computing goes. Whats a hot mess? You say the problem are the apps, yet HTML5 and Javascript devs are plenty and will no doubt be able to make touch based apps that easily gets translated to M&K. i dont think its apple that is scaring microsoft, it is more likely google. mac osx will never threaten windows, it hasnt for over ten years and just never will, the real threat comes from the move into tablets. apples days as number one in tablets is very much limited. i think android will take over within years, we can also see ho chrome is taking over, the google services becoming so powerful and android for phones has taken off. Microsoft i think are doing a good job to counter google
Hopefully laptops and traditional mice-oriented desktops disappear and instead we see tablets and larger desktop slates take over. That's where Windows 8 could really shine!
I think new notifications is a must... But beyond that in iOS I can't really see anything new coming... I mean except for maybe motivations being tie to a better lock screen

Apple have never made any huge changes to the iPhone. They make about 1-3 changes each release cycle, and it's not "premium hardware". Sure it has a premium price but hardware wise and software wise it's nothing special.
By the way, iOS is very fragmented. The iPhone 4, iPhone 3(and down) and the iPad all have different ways of handling software.
I like the fact the you can post comments in YouTube but you guys don't show anything on vids, I like what you guys think and talk about the wholes tech industry but you should consider making the podcast audio only available, definitely more people hear it and have opinions :D

There hasn't been any real changes since the beginning of the computer. Granted, all the advancements have come from hardware internals and software. But the general screen, mouse and keyboard configuration is the same. Why not veer away from this traditional configuration and try something different. To quote Matias Duarte of Google, "computers suck." Furthermore, Steve Jobs is already using the "post PC" term. Clearly the future is demanding that computing goes mobile. Windows 8 is a start.

The idea of having Windows 8 on all three types of devices might be an advantage. This I say because the same applications/programs could be used across all three platforms. So, the idea of a unified App Store is interesting - unless Microsoft cocks it up.

Their talks kind of out dated. If you watch the Google IO, they also going make an one Android version which runs on all tablets and mobile phones. So there will be 1 global OS and it will behave on it's own way based on what kind of device it installed. So that way developers don't need to build the same app for different devices and worrying to optimize it, because OS do that for you. I'm a developer who build Android apps and I still don't know why these 2 reviewers don't get the concept.

@groMMit1981 I couldn't agree more........ I watch this show and have loved these two discussing the latest and greatest, but this is something i think they've got completely wrong. I've got an Ipad 1 and an iphone 4 and although i really like the design of the hardware, the software has huge limitations that really limit what you can actually do with the devices.... I had intended to go the Android route, but yesterdays anouncement completely changed my mind.. windows unified devices ftw !!!

@groMMit1981 Google stole the market share by simply licensing their OS to different manufacturers. Apple earns everything by selling iPhones. Much more than Google. Come June 6th and I think that iOS will be revamped. But what he said about Windows 8 could be true. But I feel that if it is possible by having the same programs on ALL THREE types of computers FLAWLESSLY, then, it'll be amazing. We have to wait and see.

While the Windows 8 look, based on what i've seen IMO, woudl be better then iOS or Android for tablets and such, I'm not sure how i feel with it on desktops and laptops. Sure, you can use the traditional windows, which is required for apps ( If im correct.) The problem then is, regular windows apps running on tablets and touch devices.

@groMMit1981 I own both Android and Apple devices, and I speak from an objective point of view. Despite a dull and dated default UI Apple has first mover advantage (Larger App store, more and quicker developers support and compatibility with government website for example), better vertical integration (better hardware and software compatibility), more polish OS (I use the Honeycomb OS and iOS, dull as it is has MUCH lesser bug I assure you).

I don't think these guys got what just happened. Windows PCs will from now on be touch first, keyboards are still possible, but everything will be optimized for using touch. The old UI is just for legacy support.
This means MS just moved the goalpost and the distinction between PCs and tablets is moot. If anyone should be feeling the heat now it's Apple

How is it that MS is scared of Apple? MS has the biggest beast in the room with Windows and is now making the OS all purpose with a WP7-like touch experience that looks to really go right over iPad's head as far a tablet computing goes. Whats a hot mess? You say the problem are the apps, yet HTML5 and Javascript devs are plenty and will no doubt be able to make touch based apps that easily gets translated to M&K. You guys sound like Apple lovers...where was this same fragmentaion talk with Lion

i dont think its apple that is scaring microsoft, it is more likely google. mac osx will never threaten windows, it hasnt for over ten years and just never will, the real threat comes from the move into tablets. apples days as number one in tablets is very much limited. i think android will take over within years, we can also see ho chrome is taking over, the google services becoming so powerful and android for phones has taken off. Microsoft i think are doing a good job to counter google

Apple have never made any huge changes to the iPhone. They make about 1-3 changes each release cycle, and it's not "premium hardware". Sure it has a premium price but hardware wise and software wise it's nothing special.
By the way, iOS is very fragmented. The iPhone 4, iPhone 3(and down) and the iPad all have different ways of handling software.
